Haha well I felt I just HAD to say something!

Always be true to yourself, don't listen to asshats like me!

I'm sorry but that thread you made... completely counter-intuitive.

And your reviews! They're abysmally written!
BatSurfer Jan 25, 2013 9:44 AM
I agree. But it did leave the viewer at the end with the old man and the math problem saying "there is no answer you have to find that out yourself" or something along the lines of that. It is amazing show though. Happy you enjoyed and look forward to the review.

Mhm it gets better :P

To be honest I really don't buy into most hype for anything. I have to see it to believe it, but I like your enthusiasm. And PA isn't really sacry so much as surreal and retrospective.
BatSurfer Jan 21, 2013 7:20 PM
LOOOOOOOOOOOVE Watchmen. Sadly I have not finished reading the comic. Really need to here soon. I as well am a massive fan of psychological and symbolic works. I'm fascinated by the human thought process. PA gets wayyyy better. Really wish it was licensed. On a sappy note PA kind of saved my life. It really gave me a fresh retrospective on life. I have not read much of Berserk other than the prologue, but I hear it is good.

I haven't heard anything about Togashi not liking the anime adaption of YYH. I HIGHLY recommend TekkonKinkreet to read or some of Yoshihiro Tatsumi's manga. A Drifting Life is not very dark though as it is just a historical piece of his life and the birth of manga. Perfect Blue is everything I dislike about humanity and the modern era of opinion. It is incredibly dark and basically it is about how one can lose their selves in the big city life. The ending can be very confusing if one does not have a grasp on symbolism. Mami basically sells her self to the devil by quiting her music career to become a movie star, but in doing so she learns quickly the horrors of the bizz. The crazy guy who she stabbed was her "biggest fan" and he, by using the internet, basically stole her old identity of being a pop singer. At the end we see Mami's sister dressed as mami in pop singer apparel. This is symbolic in that her sister was never able to become what mami was as a pop singer and thus her sister became angry with mami after quiting the gig to sell her body in porn flicks and polaroids. At the very end mamis sister is a mental health clinic and mami says something along the lines of thanks to my sister she helped me realize what I had and what I let go of to become something lesser of value. I really hope that cleared it up for you. It is a very dark and can be confusing anime. Aha if you did not get PB Paranoia Agent will be hell for you. It is the single greatest anime that focuses on the human psyche and emotional issues one goes through. Again another title that relies heavily on symbolism. Every Satoshi Kon anime does except Tokyo Godfathers. It is a light hearted yet dark Christmas tale. Susumu is a genius. Don't worry btw, many people do not like Kon's anime because they either don't get it or they find it too dark. Personally only Paranoia Agent and Perfect Blue are truly dark. The rest are upbeat or have upbeat endings. Everyone I know tells me Gurren Lagann is the greatest mecha series ever lol I have no opinion though.

About the moe shows, yea they are cute I personally adore Yuru Yuri, but after awhile they become boring and leave nothing to be desired. Sure the concepts may change, but in the end it's all the same style.

I like to abbreviate.. I haven't seen those so I really don't have an opinion on them, but Yu Yu Hakusho for its time mind you, is simple yet extraordinary for what it had to offer. The dub is 1 of the best, the characters are very relatable, the action is amazing and even the animation was brilliant. The first season although my favorite for nostalgic reason, is not everything this series has to offer. Black Chapter explored a dark area most shounen artist would not. Because you know, everyone wants toys and marketability for the kids. At least that's what i've experienced for the last 15 years in america when it comes to shounen titles. For sure finish up on YYH. The ending is quite enjoyable. Amazing scenery and cohesiveness from the characters as well.

ahah yes I've heard Bakuman is quite unique in its concepts. To me, Death Note was a landmark title. It felt like it was dragging in the anime (haven't read the manga), but it remained suspenseful and broke barriers most shounen wouldn't. The self-proclaimed protagonist becomes easily 1 of the tier villeins ever. I always thought of Hitler for some reason when I watched L do his work. There are amazing shounen out there. 1 in particular I thought had the best writing and brilliant plot devices was YYH (anime). Studio Pierret really hit this one out the park by not including the filler. To bad they couldn't do that with Bleach ugh. YES the shoujo genre and this wave of moe nonsense has become so repetitive and nobody can come up with an original idea with the genre anymore. All they do is change the setting and the jokes, the moe factor it all stays the same. Just like the early 2000s when Beyblade, transformers, YGO etc were all becoming massively popular. Hopefully someone will come around with an original idea and this era will die down. enehway you MUST like Bebop muahahaha naw but I get what you mean about how the fans do make it out to be the greatest thing ever. To be fair though it is quite superb. A lot better then what we get now ~_~ this season, nothing but boring moe nonsense with different settings. yawn.
BatSurfer Jan 20, 2013 11:37 AM
I was speaking generally about most shounen. Yes there are the good bad and ugly, but when it comes to shounen most of it is ugly and bad.
ZeroRemorse Jan 20, 2013 12:46 AM
Yea I agree the relationship wasn't developed and prevents us from feeling for the character. You are right on.
BatSurfer Jan 19, 2013 8:32 PM
How can something so good be overrated? FMAB and Kenshin are brilliant, but I have a bone to pick with shounen creators in that they pander to the audience far too much. That's the genre for you anyway. Like I said imo SEL is the best. Subjective. Even though it has superb objective value as well.
BatSurfer Jan 19, 2013 5:23 PM
No shounen ever deserves that title lol GOAT is ultimately a subjective take. Personally Serial Experiments Lain is the GOAT because it took all the experimental values of the 60s Japanese animation and left an emphatic notation on the medium. Afterall, that is what animation was at its conception. I'd say you will eventually appreciate Bebop later on. After so many failed titles the good becomes quite clear in the end.
ZeroRemorse Jan 19, 2013 4:52 PM
Yo don't hate because Spike doesn't fear death. His back story points logically to this trait. Im sure if spike wanted to he could have used his artillery if he wanted to kill rint. They aren't worth anything if dead. The property damage is unavoidable if you don't want the bounties to slip away in this futuristic space anime...too many variables. because the plot is episodic you can likely assume that there are other bounties that aren't so dangerous. Why make an episode about them? I agree that the world of bebop is much more artistically valuable then it is in terms of world building or science fiction. You are right that we do not know much about the characters as the show progresses. It's mostly chasing a bounty with blind reckless action...have to accept it for what it is I guess. We really only learn things about the characters in flashbacks which is a lame reality. Outside of flash back sequences the entire show is spike making a slick remark, faye complaining, jet complaining, or a stupid chase scene. Julia is a lame character no doubt. In the story simply to make Spike's back story seem cooler. We know vicious ruined everything and thats all there is to know...lame. Ed is a hacking genius at a young age so that would likely explain her eccentricity...thats why shes in the show. I think everyone raves about it creating the genre of "Space Western." Really it has few western elements and also few science fiction elements. It has just enough to get by and set up the next chase scene. be weary of stating that there is filler in bebop. It is episodic...which comes off as filler. The episodes that you liked were the more continuous and character driven episodes and they were indeed the best. The show could have been a lot better. In my opinion, all of the main characters are adequetly developed except Spike. The villians as you say are not developed due to a poor episodic structure that only fits comedy romances (like clannad). I considered dropping the series in Speak like a Child and Wild Horses. All in all good review
