Your "what to buy" thread was moved to the Recommendations Forum. Mods usually just move them without telling the poster when or why.

Sorry i forgot to finish my last post,. As i was saying if your not a huge fan of shonen and power ups, or just a series that takes to long to finish and you are looking for something that deals with warfare with out having to many adult orient themes, then check out Full metal panic, Code geass, Crest of the stars/banner of the starts, or 12 Kingdoms. Those are just some suggestions.

Just hit me up again and i would be glad to reccomend you something different. If you don't like any of these shows. Or answer any question you may have on a paticular series.

Enjoy your anime!

Saw your topic bout reccomendation for a 1st anime, first of all i want to welcome you to MAL, its a great site, and i also want to welcome you to the anime medium, one of the most addicting hobbies to start thats for sure. People that generally get deeply involved into the hobby have a very open mind and read alot of fiction or play video games, etc.

It is rare to find someone just getting into anime and im always willing to help some of those newcomers start off with something that you can easily watch and get hooked. I have a bit of experience with that my self cause i have a few of my friends i got hooked on anime. It is like an addiction lol.

Anime has a very large variety of different styles, different art work, character designs, different stories more aimed for a sophisticated intelligent audience or something that is more casual.

Personally i would reccomend something more along the lines of shonen series, for some one that is just getting started into anime. It is hard to watch something like Legend of galactic heroes for a newcomer considering it has very sophisticated story concepts about wars, politics that you may or may not understand and also its generally not an anime for kids really. Don't get me wrong i am not judging your intelligence, just generally its not considered for newcomers. Besides i do not know the state of what would be considered appropriate for you. I would reccomend stuff like Samurai X and chrono crusade because of the bit of nudity and sex, and or violence associated with those shows, i just don't know you. Hell when i was 13 i was watching stuff lol that i shouldn't of been, but that is me.

Shonens mostly are appropriate and are centered towards young teens that have lots of action and story that you can follow more at a casual pace. Besides some of them are rather long and you can get connected to the characters in such a fashion that it just becomes so interesting satisfying to see how they grow over time. Did you ever watch dragonball z, inuyasha, yu yu hakusho, stuff that was on cartoon network a while back or are you like completely new to anime period! Don't get me wrong, they arn't series aimed for children, their just sensored to an extent that it doesn't involve all the extra nudity, sex etc that comes with alot of other anime series. I am 27 and i still watch them.

You can try naruto, bleach, FMA brotherhood, shaman king, Law of uike, Rurouni Kenshin, Dragonball, etc.

I remember when i was 13 years old, all i really cared bout was the entertainment value of a series, loved seeing the great action and shonens satisfied me back then for quite a few years until i started watching stuff more sophisticated and more cultural. Now of course it all depends on your preferences but if your a newcomer like you said and have not seen a single series what so ever, then i'd reccomend starting off with something that appeals more to the global mainstream, rather then watch series that have sap stick comedy, fanservice, otaku references, etc.

For an anime with a good story and a more progressive plot, personally i would check out fMA brotherhood and naruto, both are great. I would recommend "One piece" as well but as a new comer, i am not sure if you can get accustomed to the different art style. Alot of people end up not caring for one piece because of the very different artistic character designs, but at its core, its really one of the best series around by shonen standards.

Here is some videos for you to check out in case you have not seen them yet.

Naruto is pretty much the most popular series in america aside from dragon ball Z, its full of themes of revenge, redemption, drama, subtle romance and of course tons of action. It follows the boy that grows up named naruto who strives to become "Hogake" or leader of his ninja village and must past many trials, tests and tribulations along the way, well eventually finding out the world he lives in is a very dangerous place and must do everything he can to be recognized as a great shinobi among his other clans and his village. Eventually what starts off as a series that is more bout meeting friends, going on ninja missions, etc, turns out to be something much more dark and intense, as he finds out that their are many enimes and clans, and lots of conflicts that go along with being a ninja. The premise and execution of the series is really great and it really sucks you in.

One piece has some of the most engagning back stories for any characters ive seen, and im not taking about just shonens, but anime as a whole. ODA the writer really knows how to develop characters. But it might be a touch series to get into because of the difference in art stye, and character designs like i said, but you can give it a chance. Athough i do warn you, it is currently the largest shonen anime series today, even spanning more episodes them DB, DBZ and DBG combined and shows no closure as of yet, where as naruto is coming closer to a resolution.

FMA brotherhood deals more with a war and a deep conspiracy within the military that is hiding deep dark secrets that can eventually cause disaster for everyone and the world and it involves using alchemy as the bases of the power. Unlike naruto and one piece and other long ongoing shonens, FMA brotherhood has actually finished so you can watch the whole thing and its far smaller in comparison, ranging to 63 episodes.

Now if you want something a little different then shonen's and you don't really consider generic power up's, boy grows up to save the world which are some of the more prominent themes in shonen, then i would reccomend that you check out
