The story of this anime centers around a severely disabled boy, Dai-chan, who is physically impaired, can't speak, and has the intelligence of a toddler. While that isn't exactly what I'd call an interesting character, the movie does a good job of portraying how people react to and deal with Dai-chan and disabled people in general.
Dai-chan has two younger sisters. One of them, Mai, acts as his older sister since she looks after him a lot. She goes through various struggles such as initially feeling embarrassed by her brother when he and other disabled children visit her school, or being burdened by him while she's
...
doing her homework. I enjoyed seeing how she dealt with those hurdles and grew as a character.
Taking care of a disabled child is never easy, especially when the father has a full-time job and the mother has to do household chores. The anime also does a great job at showcasing the struggles (but also the joys!) of raising a disabled child, which I won't go into more detail about due to potential spoilers.
As you'd expect, there are also various people (both children and adults) who make fun of or stigmatize disabled people. In some cases, especially when it comes to some of Mai's classmates, that could have been done in a less stereotypical way, but on the other hand, those classmates also have their own problems and backstories, which makes their behavior a bit more understandable.
Besides Dai-chan, the "disabled main character", there is also a disabled side character, a girl in a wheelchair who can speak (though only with a lot of effort) and write. She would have been a more interesting disabled main character imho since I generally prefer characters whose weaknesses and strengths are somewhat balanced. In the end, it's the characters around Dai-chan who carry the movie.
The animation is decent for a movie from 2007. The characters were realistically drawn and there were some nice background shots.
The music was uplifting and perfectly underlined the emotions the characters felt.
If you like realistic settings and enjoy watching family-centered shows, then this movie may be worth a try.

This is one of the most depressing anime I've watched, but in a good way. At its core, it's about bullying. What makes the movie interesting is that it portrays the lives of several people and shows how they deal with their problems and overcome obstacles. At the end, I felt like I understood why some characters acted the way they did.
Some scenes made me really angry and I had to calm myself down since sometimes, despite being a work of fiction, it didn't feel fictional at all. However, there are also a lot of heartwarming moments, like those in which the main character
...
gains self-confidence and speaks out for herself or where other people show genuine acts of kindness.
What I didn't like was that there were several instances where characters almost instantly changed their behavior. It felt a bit unrealistic and sometimes cheesy. Part of the movie also dealt with disabled people, but that honestly felt more like an unimportant side-plot because the overall time you see the main character interact with the disabled children was very short and not very significant. Therefore, the movie would have benefited either from being longer or from leaving out some of the side-characters/plots.
I would not recommend this movie to those who dislike sudden character transformations and I definitely wouldn't recommend it if you are easily triggered by bullying scenes.
I would however recommend it to those who want to watch a bittersweet character-driven drama where you might shed a tear or two.

Story:
The first two or three episodes were actually very interesting because they essentially introduced me to the fantasy world in which the story takes place. I was eager to find out more about the world, hoping that the characters would eventually explore the world and find out more about it. Sadly, even after watching the last episode, most questions are still unanswered and you are left with a lot of vague symbolism. Apart from occasional hints of adventure or mystery, the entire series consisted mostly of mundane slice of life situations that were rather boring to watch.
Art:
While the quality wasn't the best (which is
...
understandable for an older series like this one), I liked how the animation managed to create a dream-like atmosphere and the characters were drawn rather realistically (ignoring the additional non-human features obviously) which is a plus for me personally.
Sound:
The sound was appropriate for a quiet series like this and I especially liked the opening.
Characters:
The characters and their interactions with each other were rather bland. While I could sympathize with the main character, I would have preferred someone who doesn't fall every time they run. I almost never felt like any of the characters had a purpose for living. Many people in the real world have interests, goals and dreams, but the characters in this series were mostly just living for the sake of existing (that was my impression at least).
Enjoyment:
While I do enjoy some slow-paced shows, I do not enjoy shows that never pick up pace in the first place.
Overall:
If you like to watch shows that rely heavily on symbolism and open interpretation, or if you simply want to watch "something different", then this show might be something for you.

In my opinion, this is one of the most underrated shows on MAL. Unlike many other shows with higher scores, 7 Seeds features characters who are neither heroes nor villains. They all have their strengths and weaknesses and it's interesting to see how they interact with and influence each other.
An example of this is Semimaru. In the beginning of the show, he comes off as a bully who is immature, incompetent and stupid (not even "just because", but rather because of his difficult childhood). However, as the show progresses, he grows more attached to the other members in his group and supports the girl he
...
initially bullied.
What makes 7 Seeds so interesting as a survival show is that you get to see how the characters deal with the world they have been put in. It doesn't rely on superpowers, mindless action, gore, jump-scares, bleak landscapes or melodrama to be interesting, but rather on the mindsets, motivations and struggles of the people in it.

What I liked about this series was that it had soothing music and some beautifully animated landscapes. There were also some mildly amusing scenes, but that's where the praise stops for me.
It just gets boring after a while because there's barely any plot and none of the girls in the show had a personality that I found particularly interesting. Out of the two "main characters" (if you can call them that) one is a lone wolf who prefers camping on their own and the other one is a cheerful person who prefers camping in a group. There are also two other girls, but they
...
were pretty bland in my opinion since none of them had any defining personality traits.
All in all it's a calm, aesthetically pleasing show that features rather uninteresting girls and an almost non-existent story.

The premise was kind of interesting, but apart from that there wasn't really anything that made me want to continue watching this series.
The first two main characters that are introduced in the show are essentially a badass scientist who knows pretty much everything and a physically strong guy who has the intelligence of a monkey (though this might be somewhat insulting for monkeys). I think the personality of those characters lacks depth, I didn't really care about them. I still continued watching past the first episode because I found the idea of re-establishing a civilization starting from scratch interesting.
However, when they got chased by lions,
...
it started to become really dumb. It's not like you can outrun lions for several minutes. On top of that, how much sense does it make for someone who has literally just been revived after thousands of years to not only be ready and willing to fight, but also to have the strength to punch away a group of lions with their bare hands?
tl;dr:
Boring characters, events lacking credibility. Not my cup of tea despite the interesting premise.

This movie didn't even come close to the series from 2017, the main reason being that it didn't really get me invested in the characters as much.
In the series, I could feel the pain Reg went through when he was crying in despair in the fourth layer, helplessly watching Riko (seemingly) bleeding to death. It was truly heart-warming to see how moved Nanachi was when she tasted Riko's delicious food for the first time. Reg's inner conflict when it came to Nanachi's request to kill Mitty was very relatable.
However, I didn't feel like I got a lot of this in the third movie. More
...
often than not, the sad scenes felt more like they were supposed to be sad, rather than being actually sad. This was partly due to the fact that the whole movie didn't really present any noteworthy instances where tough choices had to be made, or to put it in other words, there was a lack of moral dilemmas. At the end of the movie, I didn't get the impression that the bond between the Riko, Reg and Nanachi had become any stronger, neither did I get the impression that anyone of them grew as a character or gained some sort of valuable insight.
The actions of the characters were sometimes questionable. I was slightly bugged by the fact that the group didn't really seem to mind it when they were told that they were already expected by Bondrewd. Knowing this, it would have made sense for them to reconsider if it would be worth heading for the base in the first place and to come up with an elaborate plan.
I was also somewhat disappointed by the flora and fauna of the Abyss in this particular movie, because unlike in the first four layers, there was pretty much none in the fifth layer (at least it didn't get much screen-time) where most of the movie takes place.
There was a bit too much action for my taste; what makes the Abyss exciting for me is, above all, the exploration aspect that involves things such as unknown wildlife and artifacts, uncovering secrets etc. I think the movie was lacking in that respect.
This movie introduced one completely new character (Prushka) and another one that didn't get that much screen-time before (Bondrewd). I didn't really find either of them interesting, which brings me back to my initially stated main reason for being somewhat disappointed with this movie. Bondrewd's character was too one-dimensional for my liking, simply being the "very bad guy", and I had a hard time caring for Prushka, who didn't do or say anything of significance, though this is, to a certain extent, understandable given her circumstances.
The music felt a bit lackluster and at times melodramatic. I enjoyed the quiet parts a lot more because that was where I felt most of the suspense and excitement.
Overall still a good movie and a must-watch for all fans of the series or first two movies.
