I have never written a review before. It even took me some time to even find where to write one.
I chose this anime to be my first review, because it's a very important thing in my life.
I've read the Berserk manga countless times before and It is without a doubt my favorite manga ever.
So probably this review is gonna be biased, but i'll try my best to be objective.
I'll be getting at it from a comparison view towards the manga.
Story 10/10
Kentaro Miura is a genius in storytelling. Highs and Lows, you really fever along with the characters he's created. This story will
...
make you hate, love, despair, and even cry. The build up to events flows clearly and never feels like out of the blue.
Art 9/10
Altough mostly similar to the manga, often there were errors in the animation. The amount of animation lows are acceptable in my eyes, because most likely the budget wasn't too high. It's hard to portray Berserk in an animation template, but the 1997 anime did a good job with what they were given.
Sound 10/10
The score is made by an incredible artist who never ceases to amaze: Susumu Hirasawa!
The music fits perfectly to the Berserk story and even adds towards the mistery and feel of the anime. Often the lack of music really sets you in the story. Soundeffects, like the clash of swords from two soldiers fighting or a blacksmith forging, are apart of the greatness of this Anime. No complaints.
Characters 10/10
Unlikeable and loveable later, or the other way round, this story has a whole array of quality characters who are all unique in their own way. The characters Miura creates have depth and aren't just some dudes fighting on a battlefield. They are the whole drive of the story and are cleverly created.
Enjoyment 10/10
Very enjoyable Anime to watch. I couldn't stop watching and as I realized it already was late at night. I finished it in the span of a week. If I would have free time then I would've finished it in one day.
Overall 10/10
I recommend this anime to anyone who likes medival battles, psychology, philosophy and more. But even if you don't like battles, there is still plenty for you to enjoy here! I have brought multiple people to watch (and read) Berserk, most didn't even watch anime or read manga. So what i'm trying to say is, that this magnificent story is for everyone. It is really worth it to watch this Anime.
If you finish this anime, and feel a certain thing at the end, then I recommend you to read the Manga ;)
I hope this brought you to get into Berserk.
