The credit goes completely to you ;)

When they clear out the shit-posting and off topic stuff, it will be re-opened. Let's just hope that rhyme and reason retake their place.

Then again, that thread was milked, seeing as it is longer than all the others...

"That would be the term ''moe blob'', I think Tallon or someone else described what the word means somewhere in this thread or maybe another. It's a character that is not significant to the plot in any form and is only there to be cute and please fans basically (fan-service) all of their screen time no matter how little or big it is, is spent on them being cute, they don't have any other character traits than being ''moe''. They are usually supporting character, I don't remember a main character than can be an example of this."

And that is exactly what I mean. I have watched shows that are commonly regarded as moeblobs... and still I haven't found a character that is a moeblob in the strictest sense of the term, that is there alone for the sake of being cute. Then again the concept itself is very limiting. It assumes that a show/character can only focus on one trait and ignore the context.

"She is moe, she has character traits that can be considered universally cute or at least trying to be cute. What traits that Faye has that make you consider her in the same level of cuteness as Yui? they don't share any similar traits."

Well, on the one hand Faye has a certain set of cuteness in her physical aspect, and in her usual tomboyish attitude towards the crew. On the other the character development of her makes us grow a feeling of pity for her loneliness, she goes straight from the self-sufficient type of character to somebody who is actually very fragile and weak. I am not saying that she is a moeblob anyway, but she does elicit moe responses from the audience. But hey! To a point, Spike does too. I only mentioned this character because somebody in the thread brought her as an example of a totally non-moe anime girl.

Yui is made to be cute, her face traits are curvy, etc. I can't deny that. But she has a role in the story besides being cute; since K-On! is a comedy, she has a context, a running joke, a set of character interactions, even some goals, saying that she is there only for the sake of cuteness is an understatement.

"I agree with you, people often use the word with no context to explain what exactly they mean with it there. I also agree that it's quite moronic to hate a show for something it tried to do on purpose. From my own experience most of the complaints towards moe come from people that don't like the oversaturation of highschool rom/coms and SoL cute girls doing cute things anime in the anime industry because they want other stuff that better fit their preferences and tastes.

But most of the fandom can understand what someone means if he says ''I hate x shows because it has too many moe characters that I find annoying or don't appeal to me''."

Agreed with this whole part.

"He did that but you were too hung up on the fact that he defined moe as something superficial that doesn't add to the plot. I just read his OP and what he said was really clear. You apparently just skimmed it..

battosai-01: ''Yeah moe still confuses the hell out of me.

When I think ecchi its all about tits and ass and this is pretty easy to spot, but moe is a confusing clusterfuck of definitions that no one can really agree on, so for the purpose of this thread, lets just say it's "cuteness"''"
I admit it, maybe I came across as too aggressive in the thread... not my intention. In fact, I wasn't exactly aiming my comments to battosai-01, but rather to a few people who insisted on taking the conversation to their issues and started to bring a definition of the word that I straight up disagreed with. My discussion in the thread was mostly with ZappaBappa. Later, though, and I guess due to how things started to get a little heated there, added to my own issues and prejudgements with these kinds of threads, I ended up discussing with battosai around similar terms that TallonKarrde brought. But then again, if it's anybody's fault there, it's mine.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
