Since most anime sways away from modern politics its often easy to forget that Japan is home to the largest non-ruling communist party in the world. Then a show like this comes out and you get to experience the fun of a completely partisan and highly politically charged anime. What fun. It's not like anime not being full of politics is why I watch it in the first place.

As a modern anime with professional production values it looks and sounds good. The voice acting is excellent and the colours are used effectively to create a great looking anime.

Food Wars Season Five feels like whoever wrote the first three seasons got swapped out for a complete amateur. It's main issues, the writing and characterisation, drown out all of its potential and highlight other problems.

Saiba Asahi - the main antagonist of the season - is often maligned for being a poorly written character who is badly developed, unlikable, extremely creepy, and inconsistent. All of this is true. Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash was one of those anime that came about after the initial rush of isekai anime when the tendency of subversion began to creep in. In the early isekais enemies like goblins were just an enemy that you can grind to farm levels with no view of you and no view of itself. In Grimgar goblins have as little desire to die as the protagonists do.

Highschool of the Dead is an anime that caters to it's audience perfectly and if you're interested in violence, zombies, and ecchi then you'll find this will fill your time brilliantly. If you're after some complex and in depth analysis of the human psyche and complain because you can't find it, then go watch something else.
