ATTACK ON TITAN REVIEW
CAUTION! THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS!
I want to start of by saying that I have both read the manga and watched the anime adaptation so I have a full image on the matter. At the time that this review is being written, which is the 18th of April 2021, the 2 part of the Final Season of Attack on Titan has not been released, so the part regarding ending is going to be 100% based on the manga. Having clarified the things mentioned above, I think I am ready to start the review!
Ahhhhhhh…. What can
...
I say about AoT (Attack on Titan)? Being the first anime that I have ever watched, I didn't have any other standards in order to compare it with them. The relationship between AoT and me began around 2018. I hadn't been initiated in the vast world of anime/manga yet. I used to watch YouTubers talking about some Japanese animations and how much they liked it, which at the time I found really childish. But then, during the summer of 2018 the idea hit me. "Why don't I buy a manga?", I asked myself, "Yeah a manga, I comic book that I have only heard about around three times in my life and I am not even certain I like." And let me tell you people, it was one of the greatest decisions I have ever made! I bought the first 8 volumes of Aot (which cost me around 90€) and started reading. I was captivated!
The story is amazing! I can't understand how Hajime Isayama came up with such an interesting and pioneering idea! I mean, a world full of titans??? Well this dude deserves an Nobel Prize👏. The world is so excellently founded that I could not find even the slightest flaw. The hatred between the nations, which is revealed during the 3 season of the show dates back to thousands of years, making us feel that the story we are experiencing has a point as it's the continuation of certain events and not just fights occurring at random.
The characters are so well thought that even if you hate one of them at the beginning of the show, you might end up finding them awesome by the end ( which is what happened with me and Jean). While new characters keep on being introduced, the main ones keep on evolving, which is an example of the thought that has been put into this project. The most outstanding example of this phenomenon is the evolution of Eren through the seasons. He starts by wanting to exterminate every Titan and ends up exterminating 80% of the worlds population! Other main characters, like Mikasa and Armin, keep on learning things about themselves as the story progresses and reconsidering their goals and beliefs.
I found the ending of the story fascinating, although 98.3% of the rest of the readers did not. I think that the peaceful outcome of such a gory massacre was what this story needed to bid farewell to its 13 years old history.
In conclusion, and because i think that this review is getting a bit long, Attack on Titan has stigmatized my heart. It was the perfect beginning of an amazing habit that has now become part of my everyday life. Although brutal and savage, it is a captivating experience that everyone should experience at least once in their lives, if not more. I definitely recommend to every one reading this right now independent of your likings regarding the subject.
