Ore wo Suki nano wa Omae dake ka yo: Oretachi no Game Set (Anime) add

I am writing this review mainly to give a different perspective as it has almost all positive reviews. Obvious spoilers ahead as I will compare the two rival characters Joro and Hose.

Our protagonist Joro is still in the midst of his challenge with Hose the proclaimed "main character" to compare Joro's role as an "extra" in the life of the perfect Hose. Joro attempts to collect more barrettes than Hose through a series of surprise appearances. The basic plot of the OVA tries to portray is who will win, what will happen once they win, and how will the story end. The plot does these ... but in my opinion, does not quite hit the mark.

To begin the victor is chosen but Hose's two fangirls flip their personalities quickly after a previous scene from season one is brought back up in which they decide that his happiness with a girl who doesn't like him is not as important as making their feelings known. (as I'm writing this I will add my bias that I just don't like that hose thinks he will end up with sumireko when she has changed her entire look to hide from him and avoid him. the romance, in general, is a bit weak due to the plethora of unrequited confessions and the changing idolized partners in love) anyways stuff happens and Hose eventually shows a bad side and it is so comically evil and has these giant motivations with his evil plan to win over Sumireko don't make sense unfortunately. getting rid of the man she loves doesn't create an opportunity for a man she hates to steal her heart. it is illogical.

Now to add onto the plot and the characters, the girls are there to make Joro choose. we all know they love him and they end up being limited to their simple emotions of love and become one-dimensional copies of one another to add conflict to the choice. The original group doesn't really interact with him and a lot of screentime is spent on the baseball game which was unnecessary.

The first few episodes of the first season really make you expect these hidden plot points and exciting developments but past the first arc the show only gets less exciting. The humor can be quite hilarious. The characters and their motivations don't get the time they need to develop and the uninteresting plot hinders this show from being as unique and popular as it could be. (going back to season one I mean sun trying to rape sumireko come on bro) there are just instances in this anime that are so out of place and do nothing but further complicate how a viewer can sympathize and relate to the characters when they do out of character things, that also don't get talked about after they occur. the flip-flopping personalities got old quick.

Overall this show can be enjoyed with its flaws and obviously the high rating and highly rated popular reviews show how beloved this show is and how I took issue with things that others enjoyed which is awesome and I love that people loved this OVA. I just felt I needed to express my disappointment with how the characters were handled, how the plot was disappointing, and how the anime chose to end the story and the romance. I thought the ending would be more concrete and wanted to see how it ended after watching the first season.

(sidenote this is an anime original ending. the manga has a better ending and the light novel is continuing and gets way more plot twisty and adds more girls)

High Score Girl II (Anime) add

My feelings toward the High Score Girl series as a whole are filled with such wholesome memories of the short show. The second season furthers the development of the talkative Yaguchi and the silent Oono. Including the supporting character’s, the show brings an end to the lovely cast in a beautiful and bittersweet ending.
While it is a recent seasonal anime I had never heard of it and came across it through a randomizer trying to look for a new romance anime. High Score Girl delivered and is now easily one of my favorite romance anime. The plot continues the development of Oono And Yaguchis path ... towards one another.
The plot is simple but remains realistic with natural talent being a big reason for gaming skill with both Hidaka and Oono fighting for the love of Yagushi through their natural abilities in comparison to Yagushi’s thousands of hours spent honing his skills. The tournaments and games between them showcase the established talent while reminding us of Yaguchi’s determination and love for the games he plays.
I cannot stress the amount of “Awwwwsss” I had watching the characters I had grown so attached to having such cute moments together. The characters are the best part with no side character going to waste. Every single character develops in this show: from the overly confident and condescending Doi to Oono’s strict teacher Gouda they all change from the interactions they have with Yaguchi. He is the example that similar shows need to follow. He is dense but for good reason. He knows nothing of love and is unsure as to how he needs to react especially in the case of Hidakas confession and numerous attempts at seduction. The girls in his life share strong feelings for him and while he seems to know his feelings for Oono are there he has mixed his feelings for love for her with that of rivalry and competition. It’s similar to his love for gaming and the attachment to the franchises as well as the social aspect of competing. The parallel between his gaming obsession follow his plight for love as he has taken years to get at a level that Oono, and Hidaka especially, have achieved much quicker. He has confusion and a sense of inferiority when comparing himself to Oono that masks his love for her with his embarrassment causing him to shy away from her. To Oono Yaguchi is her light, her knight, her hope, and her dreams. His carefree attitude and love for games free her from her strict daily life. The kindness and attention he gives her, with his understanding and need to cheer her up increase her feelings towards him leading to the simple plastic ring she treasured for years. Treasuring it the same way she treasures him. With simple facial expressions he can understand her like no other. Watching their development has been a wonderful experience as a viewer.
The other aspects of the show will be summarized quickly because the characters are the highlight. The animation is heavy cgi but animation doesn’t become a big deal unless its horrendous or breathtaking. The music was really cool. I love Guiles theme as just a piece of music and the versions they made with the slowed down bits or using instruments was rad. The op’s were nice and both ed’s were sung by Sotaisei Riron’s lead singer Yakushimaru, Etsuko and I already love her work in her band and shoegaze as a genre of music so the music was all around very pleasant and a bit unique.
High Score Girl is a series I cannot recommend enough. From lovers of classic video games, to romance fans it’s a show that anyone and everyone can enjoy.

Kimi no Na wa. (Anime) add

Alright, I finally got around to watching the super famous and hyped Kimi no Na wa and I have some review like opinions on the movie. WE got some spoilers but I will do my best to be minimal if you’re reading this before watching. To begin, I want to first get the animation and sound out of the way. They were pretty hecking gorgeous. The only issue with the animation could be the contrast between characters and the background in certain scenes but dang was it a beautiful thing to watch. I paused it every now and then just ... to look at it and go “woooooow.” Soundtrack also good we got RADWIMPS and they complement the movie well adding very fitting music to many of the scenes.
Okay we got the good stuff done bam great. Now I had some issues with this movie. Now of course I’m coming at the movie with quite an eye on it as it is the highest rated anime movie on this site, however I liked it a ton more than I thought I would. The way the plot is laid out in the first half of the movie is quite exquisite. The mystery and confusion that the characters have in their situation is mirrored by the viewers in trying to solve the question. The buildup to the climax is also really phenomenal. I was getting chills when the big reveal happened.
This is however where things go downhill. Now this is of course natural to plot as the climax would be the highest but I mean the plot gets weaker as elements are added and it just seems to get confused about itself. What exactly is the plot about? I was wondering this at the end of my viewing as I was not really sure. Was it a love story, a mystery, a tale of fortune telling to prevent disaster??? I got lost. The forced romance that I felt the movie was building too also seemed too fast since they did not really know each other at all. They knew of each other and interacted through there journal entries. Then bam we got the words on the hand and it was wild.
Kimi no Na wa is a fantastic anime movie but it does too much in my humble opinion. I am left with a lot of questions that I sort of have to self-justify through internal debates. The time travel, dream switching, loss of memory, loss of record, the missing memories, and finally how are they going to constantly feel something is missing yet they cannot even remember their name literally 20 seconds after shouting it at the sky.
Alright I feel like I might be getting too ranty so I want to say it was a really great watch, but I wanted it to make more sense. I did like it and thought it was soooooooooooooooo gorgeous.

Owarimonogatari (Anime) add

Well well thought I'd actually do a review for once so lets talk about Owarimonogatari one of the 30 thousand seasons of the monogatari franchise. Gonna break it down into the two big chunk chunks of the season. So first we have the Sodachi half and the Shinobu half.

THAT JUICY PLOT: Alright so lets begin with the stronger half by far. the Sodachi riddle and lost arcs were just fantastic arcs. The mystery aspect and the introduction of a new character was a nice change of pace. Ougi is newish too but Sodachi isn't a complete mystery.

Now the two arcs have Araragi unraveling ...
