I'm starting this out with, no I did not like this anime. I also think it's tragic that it's actually popular.
Story: 3/10
With the premise, it could have been so good. Humanoid creatures with supernatural killing powers? Sure, I'm down. But the delivery was so so bad. So bad. Horrendous. Awful. Miserable. Any adjective you can think of to describe bad. I had to FORCE myself to finish it.
It was like they thought "Hey, if we stuff a bunch of nudity, gore, and tragic backstories into it, it will make mature intellectual individuals think it's complex and deep, right?" WRONG.
Some claim it's deep
...
because it supposedly addresses themes like racism and discrimination. Now tell me, if a pack of wolves was after you and trying to kill you and all of your friends, you'd lock them up in a cage so they couldn't hurt anyone, right? The diclonius are detained because they possess the power and ability to wipe out the human race. This anime is about as deep as a kitty pool.
Art & Sound: 6/10
The opening theme was probably the best part of the show, honestly. The rest of it was nothing noticeable.
Character: 2/10
The worst thing about this anime. The characters, while all being remarkably bland, were also remarkably stupid. Every single female character had a sad back story and was completely in love with the MC Kouta. EVEN HIS OWN COUSIN. The fan service here was not very cleverly disguised. The characters lacked any development, or COMMON SENSE. "Hey, there's a bleeding naked girl with horns who can't talk on the beach! Let's just take her home instead of to a hospital." Lucy conveniently went from childish to psychotic any time it served the plot.
Overall: 3/10

I'm not a person to easily give out a 10. Usually in an anime, there is always something I can find a bit lacking. Usually it can be an unoriginal story, or lacking character development, but in this case, I can truly find no flaws.
Story: 10/10
Now, since I'm not writing any spoilers, the synopsis basically tells you all you need to know. Arbiters pass judgements on humans after they die. Arbiters have no feelings. They are intended to draw the darkness out of people's souls. And that's what they do. But that is not the only thing this anime is about. It
...
encompasses so much more than just "Is this person good or bad" and it explores many themes of humanity in a very tangible, almost simplistic way.
It's easy to understand, and while it is heavy, it doesn't seem dark. Some might disagree with me here, but what distinguishes the difference between heavy and dark to me, is that dark leaves no room for curiosity and simply gives you an image; heavy, gives you outlines and shading but no colors, so you are left to imagine and create your own interpretations, all within the set guidelines that you understand. Both are hard to process emotionally.
This anime is so thought provoking. It truly made me think, and feel. It made me cry, more than once, and I actually can't even remember the last time an anime made me cry. (jk, yes I can. it was definitely gunslinger girl, when I was like, 13. would it make me cry again though? probably not.)
Anyways, the only thing this anime left me wanting, was more episodes.
Art: 10/10
Beautiful style, great colors, and a fluidity that many anime lack. I was particular impressed with this art.
Sound: 9/10
Definitely added to the mood. And I also love that they weren't afraid to use silence, too. That's as much of a tool as music is, and sometimes content creators seem to forget that.
Character: 10/10
This show is all about character devolvement. I mean that's basically the premise, to judge someone's character. So of course they have to utilize it. I was very impressed with the way they made the main characters, but actually the real beauty is the way they developed the "guests" aka, humans being judged. So beautifully done in short episodes. And the way they judge these characters also says a lot about the main characters themselves. Overall, fantastic in all areas.
Overall: 10/10
I would recommend this to everyone. I truly think that this could appeal to almost anyone. It was just beautifully done. I will for sure rewatch this many times! For a 12 episode series, I am truly impressed. I wish there were more episodes, not because I found it lacking, but because I find it truly incredible. But alas, all good things must come to an end.

Story: I really like the premise of this even though it's not really my style- very science fiction, and I'm not super into that. It's gory as well. So basically, this kid gets infested with this parasite that's supposed to manifest in his brain but instead ends up in his hand. The parasite can only control his hand but other people infected usually get completely taken over and the human body becomes a host for the parasite- rendering the human basically gone, but the body continuing on with the parasite as it's host. Now these parasites have one goal- eat humans. See how this could
...
get interesting? I also really enjoyed the character development as well- the main character goes through some pretty dark stuff, and it actually reflects in the way his character behaves, and even looks. It's pretty interesting. The story itself takes a lot of twists and turns, but the arcs all connect pretty nicely. I didn't really find a dull moment in this anime!
Art: It's okay. Not my favorite ever, but it's simple and gets the job done.
Sound: Same as above. I don't have very strong feelings for or against it.
Character: Pretty good. They put a lot of effort into the lead and the parasite he's infected with, but not much elsewhere. Not to say it's bad necessarily- they all just change based on him. It's cause and effect I guess.
Overall: I really enjoyed this. Definitely not a masterpiece but worth watching if you want something interesting and pretty unique. It's gory that's for sure, but it all kind of makes sense with the story. Definitely an anime I enjoyed watching, over the period of about a week or two.

This anime is good. Very very good. I feel as though it's more unique than anything coming out recently. I didn't read the manga.
Story: 9/10
Okay, so the whole "humanity is threatened by very powerful force, seemingly untalented young looking boy some how saves the world" thing isn't new. We've seen this before. But, the delivery makes it so great to watch. It's not dystopian, like so many of this plot line, but it's not quite past, either. It's like an altered present- things that exist now do not exist because of the Titans and their impact on human history. It is very
...
gory, beware of that. However, I found it tolerable and pretty necessary to the story. This anime has many facets to it's plot- action, drama, a little bit of underlying romance. One thing I found interesting was it was written with a lot of open ends, like they were anticipating a second season ( and if there wasn't a second season being released, this would be a major flaw). Overall it has a pretty uneven pacing throughout, slow sometimes, fast others. Some people really don't like that however, I thought the down time was usually pretty well used.
Art: 10/10
This is drawn in the style of a manga- lots of visual shading, dark outlines around the characters. Mostly in still shots/close ups. It has beautiful and incredibly drawn backgrounds, and overall i thought the art was very detail oriented. I was very impressed.
Sound: 8/10
It was good most of the time, distracting other times, added to the suspense other times. Overall, the sound was pretty average.
Character: 8/10
This gave us pretty good character development for an action anime, but still, as with many of this genre, it left me wanting more. I can't say it didn't have any, because it definitely did, but I place a lot of importance on character development and this did not totally deliver for me.
Overall: 9/10
I really liked this, truly. The story is compelling, the characters are great, and the art is gorgeous. It was definitely not something I loved so much I binge watched, but I did like it. I would recommend this to someone who likes action but doesn't want to sacrifice plot!

This is not your typical shoujo/slice of life. This is actually a realistic representation of people and their flaws. I find it to be deep and it really makes you examine the way life is and the way people are.
Story: 9/10
I looooove this anime. A lot. The reason it's not a 10, is because it's very drama based, and moves forward in a slow, emotional way, with no obvious end in sight. But in that same way, I find it very realistic, because it's not chasing a happy ending like most shoujo do. The same thing that makes it great, is also it's
...
downfall. I also love the narrations in the beginning before the theme song- they often offered great insight to Hachiko's thinking. The story here really revolves around her mostly, even though Nana is a huge part of it, I always felt as though Hachiko was the main focus, probably because she has the more relatable and realistic problems out of the two.
Art: 8/10
I like the art on this one, although the characters definitely can be hard to get used to. But, they have quite a diverse cast, which I love. You can tell now that the art is a little dated, but it's far better than many it's age.
Sound: 9/10
Yes this does revolve around music quite a bit. The background music was good, nothing that I took particular notice of. The music they played was good, but it wasn't what they were focusing on here. It was more of the concept of it, and their careers. What they did play was good, but it wasn't really the main focus.
Character: 9/10
At 47 episodes, it can almost seem a little repetitive- I can see many recurring themes like Hachiko's unrequited love causing her pain, her realizing and hating herself/other person for it and Nana's unwavering commitment to being herself and not letting anything stand in the way of her success with the band and being independent- of course they evolve beyond those simple principles, which is what makes this great to watch. The characters, while evolving in some aspects, do not evolve in others and that can be interesting and aggravating to watch, much like real life. The character development is amazing though, they give great insights to the way the characters think, the way they handle their emotions, and it's really compelling to watch.
Overall: 9/10
I really do love this anime. I think it has great themes throughout, and it is pretty fascinating to watch. Everything about it is good, but there is just something that keeps it from being great, and I think that's mainly that it has too many recurring themes for an anime this long. They struggle with the same problems on different scales throughout the whole thing. But, I also feel that's what makes this incredible realistic.
