Chainsaw Man

when i started chainsaw man i immediately had to check if jjk was by the same author-they are VERY similar and are both funny and follow different patterns than your usual shonen -they both have similar protags (very straightforward, earnest, innocent, not your “typical” shonen protagonist full of lofty convictions) -similar character interactions + same comedic sense -the art styles are both sketchy and a little rugged (more so for jjk) so if one doesn’t bother you the other most likely won’t -both are about demons and have very similar premises

NHK ni Youkoso!

HEAR ME OUT; in terms of setup/genre they are completely different. evangelion is an action mech while NHK is a dark sol comedy…HOWEVER both HEAVILY focus on themes of depression, anxiety, and self hatred. nhk is about a college dropout whose friends are a high school girl who helps him to feel better about herself and a self centered college student. the mc is portrayed with many negative qualities but ultimately as simply human. all characters in nhk are portrayed as selfish and at times incompassionate but this creates a truest human aspect. they aren’t shonen heroes their actually selfish and suffering humans. it also does a fantastic job on incorporating comedy without making a joke out of the issues the characters are facing.

Devilman: Crybaby
|
both NGE and devilman crybaby are actions about the plight of humanity and how messed up they can be. however devilman crybaby is much more about humanity as a whole and evangelion ends up being more about self hatred/low self worth while still going over humanity as a whole. both also don’t have your basic conclusive happy ending but focus more on ending the message. they also both have a classic 80s animation style and can be pretty trippy.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Gou

both are gory horrors that use a cheerful theme to make the horror stand out more, although higurashi uses a cheerful animation and oblivious characters to utilize the shock factor, mirai nikki (the future diary) uses a cute psychopathic girl whose not at all effected by the killing/remains cheerful. honestly there both a little lacking on plot and development but will satisfy the need for a gory, violent, horror when your in that kinda mood and there a lot of fun to watch.
