Hmmm...right now, I'll say I'm into animation history for Japanese culture. Plus, anything Japanese-related helps me these days to understand why anime is the way it is right now. Pretty cool stuff. In a way uhmmm my fascination with anime is a neverending journey for now hahaha!
So you like pretty and beautiful anime shows, is into drama, mystery, and psychological, anddddd you have the attention span of a tiktok user (T⌓T). Interesting. It does make me wonder why you're watching shounens when it seems like it's not your preferred genre. There's a ton of shows written for and catered to women. Have you tried any of the following genres: (1) magical girls, (2) shoujo, (3) josei, and or (4) yaoi / yuri? I think these genres are also where you can find most of what you want, except for the short attention span, idk about a show that's super short and you can finish it because the journey is that amazing that it makes you wanna finish it. What if a show ends in a cliffhanger? Would you actually watch the anime knowing that canon-wise their journey is not yet done, the season just literally had to end for some reason? HAHA!
I'm not personally the best person to ask for female-oriented anime but like I'm learning about it too because there's actually some really amazing shows in there. Feel free to ask though!
For recommendations, I do have some interesting ones for you. I'll try my best! It seems like you've seen Frieren already, but I do recommend that. There's a season 2 coming out next year, so that means you can finish season 1 no worries. Or I guess you can drop it really on any episode because it's such a peaceful show that offers all the cool and emotional stuff you can expect from anime. Plus, I think you don't really have to finish Frieren as a show (controversial opinion), but it's the best one for your case. You can drop it after any arc or episode.
The other one is "The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies". I know, long ass title. BUT! You might like it!!! Kind of out of your way for genres, but it's a really nice and short show. 12 episodes, 15-minutes each. A friend of mine told me about this and they mentioned that half of each episode is an interview with the voice actors I think (?), it's been a while! But, that makes each episode probably 7 minutes each. Super short, right? Plus, this anime was made in memory of the author, who, unfortunately passed away so soon. This anime was made in their memory. Eh? I know the anime isn't melodramatic but the reason why it exists is pretty sad. I think in the anime world that's a one-of-a-kind thing to do. I've never heard of an anime being made because the manga's author passed away or something. It's interesting and new for sure.
OH AND SAILOR MOON!!! HOW COULD I FORGET. YOU'LL LOVEEEEE SAILOR MOON. I've only seen season 1, but like there's 4 seasons of this series, and each season is loooooooonggggg. It's iconic too and I believe you'll love it.
Yeah that's three recommendations lol! I didn't expect to pull out this much. But I guess that shows there's a lot of anime that you could watch and is for you for sure. I hope huhu
Oh fudge! I forgot to answer your other thingssss uhhhhh...
Yeah no for sure, I use to feel bittersweet when shows end. We're similar on that end. I understand that I want my favorite people to stay my favorites, but there is one way that I started viewing it where I was like, no yeah that makes so much sense. I, one day was like, don't I want things to be better for my favorite shows/characters/stories? Like, don't I want them to be happier now that their journey is over. They don't have to suffer anymore or go through really bad stuff and they can just like chill now and be happy, live their peaceful lives and have fun (offscreen though/in my head, cuz the show is done...) BUT YEAH THAT'S ONE WAY I VIEWED IT and I was like, yeah, why don't I want my favorite characters to have their problems be done. Being stuck in conflict land really sucks when I view it that way and you know, I let the stories move forward from then. I get where you're coming from though, and yeah no worries if that's how you wanna enjoy shows.
WINRY!!! AL!!! Yeah I love them too ugh they deserve all the love, even more since they so underrated. Yeah I hate Envy too. The sin fits their personality but like idk, every homunculi had something interesting going for them. I wish Lust lived longer though. Her last lines to Roy gives me the impression we didn't see more of her in the story. Also, I can't believe I remember Miles. He's cool. Was Miles a lot like Roy but like if Roy was younger??? I GET THAT IMPRESSION FROM WHAT I REMEMBER HUHUHU They're both so cool for no reason, and hot!!! but but like Roy is damaged and has seen the darkness of the world but he still rocking. Even blindness didn't stop Roy from being cool, AND HOT!!!
Sorry for yapping though, I hope you get some value from this message.
We're the same! I love Japanese culture :D Oh boy I just realized how deep I am into it... I can see where you're coming from though. Hmmm... This is a bit hard so maybe it's better for me to throw out questions and see which one you'd prefer to answer or think about. Or you could answer none of them at all, it's cool. Or answer everything HAHA! Hmmmm....
1. Do you have a specific thing you look for in Japanese culture that you like seeing in the entertainment you "consume/watch/play"? It could be anything. Like, it could be as something dumb as because in that one scene a character you liked pets a dog or something.
2. Are you into a specific genre? If it ain't shounen, well there's a fuck ton of genres available in anime. A lot of places to look at mhmm
3. Or, it is like because you prefer the journey of a story rather than the ending? Like, hmmmm like you love stories where people do their thing but you don't like it when it ends. You love it if things keep going type of stories?
Okay that's all my questions! I hope that doesn't overwhelm you. I also didn't mean to pry in. I just thought it'd be cool if I could guide you with your concern. If finishing shows is what you really want to achieve then the first step is to try! No pressure.
As for me, it's a bit hard to explain on my end. I've been through so many phases as an anime fan. When I was younger, I finish shows because I wanna see how stories end, you know. Like, how do they beat the bad guys, how does the main couple end up together, especially the kiss scene XD because that's how romcoms end it before...I WANNA SEE IT!!!, and like you know, do my favorite characters get a happy ending??? kinda thing. Nowadays, I'm just in it when I know the journey is going to be sick and cool and it doesn't usually matter how it ends, but great endings could really really be amazing. It's like that feeling when everything in your day aligns together and goes super super well and you feel like the luckiest person in the world kind of vibe. There's also a lot of things I look into nowadays before I start a show, like a lot, because idk there's just so much media and I kinda wanna know what the ride is gonna be you know? But what's important sometimes for me, and it can be really something small and dumb or really something profound and it will change my life kind of thing, is that the show I watch has to inspire me. Inspire what exactly? I don't know. Could be something like inspire me to watch more horror anime or inspire my mindset to change or like inspire me to cheer for the Edward Elrics in my life. Anything really. The sky is limitless when it comes to art tbh. I hope that helps.
FMAB does keep me on my seat! You're so right. I binged the hell out of that series when I watched it. It's kinda addicting haha! Wait who is your most favorite character from FMAB? Besides Ed and Roy because they're easy. I love Roy too not gonna lie. He's so cool! But I think people like Riza Hawkeye deserves more love. And and the villains are also really cool, but I think Greed is my underrated favorite among the homunculus baddies. And hmmm...when did I watch it? I kinda forgot lol! I just know I watched it when I first got into anime so my memory's kinda messy.
Oh yeah for sure, it is quite the torture! Most shounen can be like that when you're just not feeling like watching a 200+ episode series out of the blue (μ_μ) What keeps you in with anime and manga then? Though I guess this is just a hobby at the end of the day!
Ooooooo, someone's about to complete FMAB! LET'S GOOOOOO!!! Hope you enjoy every bit of it! Shounen is a good genre and all that but every show after FMAB could be a hit or miss kind of vibe and a massive investment too! You picked a "relatively" short series haha, IN THE GENRE I MEAN!!! How is FMAB though? Is this still good after all these years? I've finished the show a long time ago now...
No yeah, I get you! I have the opposite problem, where, if I start a series and I like it, I have to complete it since anime that has "proper endings" is so rare. If you struggle with long shows, there's always anime movies and short films! That's where most of my 800+ anime come from...hahaha!
Ooooo FMAB! What part are you in? And Nichijou? You should actually watch it! It's such a fun show. Though, I think watching both FMAB and Nichijou back-to-back will overwhelm you. They're both such different vibes/experiences altogether haha!
yeah for sure. rezero was the first anime I watched back when everyone was going crazy about the first season. definitely needs a rewatch from me because I adored that show. i only got into the medium properly around last year so I deffo needa catch up on all the things I watched back then.
star strings yori is in manga format, and its really pretty. im pretty sure around 100 pages? hope you enjoy :)
definitely. no problems with his writing. there are times though when I wonder whether I'll still be interested in the medium in 10-15 years because that's probably how long the series will continue :')
i recommend you star strings yori. it's an incredible 1 chapter story written by the same author, and you can finish it in one sitting.
yeah it's wonderful. i'd say its the most intriguing universe out of any show I've ever watched.
only problem is he writes like three chapters a year : (
