I understand a decent amount, but when it comes to speaking, somewhere between my brain and my mouth the words turn to gibberish.

LOL

Gundam is a quagmire, but you should probably start with Mobile Suit Gundam from 1979.

There's no specific type of anime that I prefer. My roots are in fantasy and sci fi though.

There's scope for "new" content in the industry, but because the studios are businesses they're main goal isn't to please the fans, but to make money. That's why we get so many stereotype driven shows from one season to the next, and the trend is only going to continue until someone in the industry decides to attack the problem from a different angle.

One of the main problems with developing new anime now is that a lot of very good ideas and concepts are comepletely ignored because they're considered a risky venture. Well, Gainax thought they were going bankrupt during the production of NGE, and look at the difference now.

At some point someone will have to take a risk, especially if the Japanese industry wants to continue being the world leader in anime.

Aye, I'm British :)

LOL - not all of the changes since the 80's have been good. The prevalence of fanservice is a stigma that the industry really needs to get rid of if it wants to seriously crack the international market. There also needs to be a change of focus as the majority of anime target teenaged audiences, but the ones who have the money to buy DVDs and merchandise are people over the age of 25 who are working. There are very few shows around that are aimed specifically at the mature demographic as while some may contain mature themes, they generally involve juvenile protagonists.

There's an opportunity being wasted, but the industry's too short sighted to see it.

LOL

No worries. Your English is fine. I kind of guessed what you meant with the last question, but I wasn't sure of the context is all.

I've seen most of what are considered the classics, but not all of them as anime in the UK has always been a niche thing.

The list appears to be huge, but it loses its sparkle when you consider the fact that I've been a fan of anime since before I knew it was anime (over 25 years in fact, and rapidly approaching 30 years of being a fan).

I'm not sure I understand the last question.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
