it's not often a shoujo one shot stands out to me but edo kurata is truly a gorgeous collection of one shots that capture the historical-romance genre well.
each story wraps itself up nicely within the short spread of pages; there's no waffling or slow burn, things get very straight to the point. it's sweet, wholesome and romantic with lovely art to accompany it. if anyone is a fan of shoujo romance, they will definitely enjoy these stories - they can be a bit predictable but that doesn't take away from the enjoyment. if anything, my only complaint would be that i would've liked to see

if anyone has 5 minutes (or less) to spare, i'd recommend reading this.
for something so short, it manages to leave you uplifted about life and the small things it brings in our everyday. kurita's style of drawing is extremely pleasing to look at and the way the sweet and simple story is told through imagery makes it all more compelling. it's a slice of life so don't expect much action or adventure, just a girl learning about how much brighter life can be. within the short amount of space, i would say the characters were developed enough to feel intriguing and real; responding to ... |
