After I caught up to the first season of Tokyo Revengers, I was left wanting more of the story. The ending scene of episode 24 pulled me right in, leaving me with a sour taste in my mouth with how it ended. So, with the encouragement of a friend, I decided to pick up the manga, and holy hell, was that the best decision I could have made.
I don't know about you, but when I watch from the anime to the manga, I tend to start reading from the beginning instead of where the anime cuts off. I mostly do this to catch how the
...
manga dealt with the pacing and if there were any extra scenes taken out. I'm glad I did, because I think that the manga does a better job with the pacing of the story (didn't drag on scenes to make the 24 min time for the episode(s)).
I haven't caught up to the most recent chapter(s) just yet, however I'm excited to see what comes next!! I'll update this review when I'm caught up. Until then, I'm rating Tokyo revengers a solid 9 out of 10.
Thanks for reading! <3

About a year ago, I started watching Higurashi because I felt like it was time to delve into a well-received horror/thriller anime. However, I had to drop the series and neglected to pick it back up due to it being very hard to find online.
Oh, how I wish I put in more effort back then, because I love this series so much.
[ Story: 10/10 ]
The main method of story-telling for the Higurashi series fascinates me; telling the same story (with slight variations) over and over again in different character's perspectives helps us find out more about the happening of the small town of Hinamizawa
...
as well as the dreaded Oyashiro-sama curse. The small arcs in the first season helped develop our curiosity of the curse, and the second season (Kai) took that curiosity and answered it.
[ Art: 8/10 ]
Now, I will say that I really enjoyed the art update in Kai. The first season has an iconic art style that features large eyes/large foreheads and tiny bodies, but I do have an appreciation for the more bishoujo style that's taken on in Kai. I think that the animation quality is pretty much the same as the previous season, and overall kept me engaged with the story.
[ Sound: 9/10 ]
I think the sound design for Kai was great. The OSTs seemed to fit every scene and I LOVE the opening and ending themes. One thing that I liked about the opening sequence was that it changed slightly when a *certain character* decides to do a *certain thing*, and I really appreciate this small attention to detail.
[ Character: 9/10 ]
In the previous season, the main focus of each arc was on each of the main characters: Keiichi, Mion, Satoko, Rika, Shion, and finally Rena. Although most of the early arcs are in the perspective of Keiichi, we get to se different sides of these core characters and the different actions they take under similar circumstances. There are several secondary characters (like Ooishi, Takano, Irie, etc.) who have their parts to play, but they aren't focused as heavily on.
This changes in the second season, as we learn more about Rika and the *curse* itself. More characters are shown, and *a side characters* who I personally didn't see coming gets their own personal arc.
[ Enjoyment: 10/10 ]
I don't know if it's already obvious, but I really love and enjoy this series. I wasn't expecting the turn away from the horror aspects to happen, but I'm really glad it did. I like shows that make me think, and Kai really make me do just that during the entire run of the season.
[ Overall Score: 9/10 ]
That being said, I still don't think that Kai is worthy of being rated a 10/10. Even now, I'm still tossing between rating it a 9 or a 10 simply because of the genius this series brings. However, I think that even though my enjoyment and the story are fantastic, there still seemed to be something missing from it. I think that that ending arc opened some doors way too late, and I'm worried that they won't be closed.
Overall, I really enjoyed the second season of the Higurashi series. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is okay with having to use at least one brain cell while watching an anime.

Going into this review, I had a hard time coming up with a quick way to sum up my thoughts on HoriMiya. I love the premise of the series, which focuses on the relationships between the teens of a large (and growing) friend group, but something about HoriMiya doesn't sit right with me...
Let's get into the ratings:
[ Story : 6/10 ]
I think the main problem I have with this series is it's poor pacing. It's so goddamn fast that I can't tell when certain parts begin and end. Doing some research led me to finding out that HoriMiya adapted 122 chapters into 13 episodes,
...
but skipped several chapters/mixed the order of chapters and skipped some entirely (specifically a time skip). I knew loosely that this was the case, but I didn't realize how bad it was until I watched it.
However, all this being said, I still really enjoyed the story itself. I loved watching the different relationships begin, evolve, and unfold. I bumped this score down a ton simply because the pacing is extremely off.
(one thing I'd like to note is that I think this show could have benefitted more towards a short-form episode style similar to Saiki K... just a thought, and we can't do anything now to change it)
[ Art: 8/10 ]
I'm really big into art, especially in anime, and HoriMiya is a beautiful anime to look at. I love the character designs, and the backgrounds and animation movement always seemed to be pretty decent. However, when I first watched the ending theme, I was thrown off by the CGI because I wasn't expecting it. I still think it looks nice, but CGI really isn't my preference in anime.
[ Sound: 7/10 ]
As for sound, I really liked the OSTs a lot. I fell like the fit the show and I don't have any qualms about them. The opening is a certified bop and I never fail to dance along when it played. I wasn't a big fan of the ending theme song, but it didn't deter my enjoyment of the series.
[ Character: 6/10 ]
Like I stated earlier, I think this anime severely suffered from the pacing. I feel like I wasn't able to learn about more of the characters due to the cut n' paste nature of each episode. For example, there were several characters introduced towards the end that definitely didn't get as much screen time as other characters even though they were (seemingly) added to the main ensemble cast. Then, by the end of the last episode, everyone acted as if the new characters had been there from the beginning.
I think that overall, each character had their own arcs (whether big or small), but I don't think that I was able to see it all due to the pacing. Personally, I really don't want to watch an anime and then feel like I have to go read the manga because I want to learn more about the characters. If I want to read the manga, I do it because I love the story so much and I want to catch the *small* details that were possibly left out for the sake of time (or, I go to the manga because the anime hasn't adapted all of the series yet/is a continuing series). However, in this case, I'd need to read the manga to get what feels like a quarter more of the story (at least) that was left out.
(*POSSIBLE SPOILER* : but in the Christmas episode, I noticed that there was a little red-head girl with Hori 's family, but she was never introduced prior OR mentioned/shown on-screen ever again...?? Like who is she? Where did she come from?)
[ Enjoyment: 9/10 ]
With all of my points about the pacing aside, I still very much enjoyed this series. I had a blast following the characters and learning more about them in and out of school.
[ Overall: 7/10 ]
I think for most anime fans today, anything below an 8 seems to mean that you hate the series. Little do they know, I always try to rank anime based off of MAL's word description of each number. That means that for HoriMiya, I find this series to be "Good," and I stand by that.
For my final notes, I definitely would recommend this anime to anyone who likes a good slice-of-life rom-com, but I would probably point them in the direction of the manga first rather than the anime.
