“The fire is spreading across my body from all the things I’ve done.”
Wow, Violet Evergarden truly is a masterpiece... It deserves to be given 11 for heaven's sake...
Every part of this show is something to remember and to make reference to, the art is unbelievable, the sounds used throughout are incredibly effective, the story is one of the most endearing yet moving that I have experienced, with characters so beautifully created that you wish you could get to know them first hand.
The art is absolutely jaw dropping, every frame is instilled with so much detail and emotion, watching the show is an experience like none
...
other... I would happily set any frame as a wallpaper or have it printed. However, this show should not be appreciated just as stills… The animation is astounding, every bit as much as the art; facial expressions, foliage, everything, given that extra bit of detail that draws you into this magnificent world, and the story that unfolds within it. Whether the scene is set in a built-up area, or a countryside farm, the meticulousness of not only the characters but the back drops, really does make the show feel alive and that bit more immersive.
The sounds that accompany these visuals are equally impressive. The voice actors who were chosen, perfectly convey the part that they are playing, emphasising the full spectrum of characters and the relationships between them. The soundtrack was phenomenal, the use of music throughout was skilful, to say the least. Every scene your emotions are amplified by the addition of these works of art, my only wish was that there was a few more songs that were used throughout, while not hindering the effectiveness, it is noticeable (if you are watching the show across a short period of time) the frequency of use of each song.
The story was something I was apprehensive about, I had no idea where the story or the characters could progress after the first few episodes, but low and behold with gentle and regular snippets, from the main character, Violet’s past, we learn more about her as she is developing and become more invested into her life throughout. The story is perfectly paced for the length of this series, never leaving me with a thirst for action, or feeling like I have seen this before… Each scene contributing to my overall understanding and ultimately, my enjoyment.
The emotional investment that becomes of Violet, turns this show into a roller-coaster, one with magnitude only possibly described by the likes of anime such as this... One episode you will be feeling thrilled for the accomplishments made by Violet, seeing this character who has not been gifted the ability to detect and "decipher" human feeling, making friends, experiencing new things and most importantly finding out who she really is... To absolute heartbreak when some of the key parts of her life are torn away from her, in a matter of moments.
I don't know what it is about the show, whether it be the absolutely astonishing visuals or the deeply intriguing and in-depth characters, but I think this show is an absolute must watch, purely to raise the bar of what people can expect from anime. If you are thinking of watching this show, please, invest your feelings into Violet, and this show will become 10x more rewarding because of it.
