I can't see how anyone can loath Dragon ball GT, yet adore Dragon ball super. I grew up watching Dragon ball and Dragon ball Z, while these anime are far from perfect, especially with childhood nostalgia removed from the equation, they still possess qualities which make them enjoyable in their own right. I went into Super wanting to enjoy it, to be filled with warm and fuzzies as I reminisce. What I got was a rerun of the latest films, only less enjoyable and with worse animation, which is to be expected given the budget and time a film has when compared to the average

series.
Followed by a frivolous tournament arc, which i can't even remember. Now time for Goku black, probably the highlight of the series.
Jiren, a character written for the purpose of giving Goku some competition in the tournament of power, to basically stop Goku dominating. A character with a single dimension and cliche, crappy back story. Every other Dragon ball character we have known over the years is cast aside to let Goku be the raving center of attention, no body else matters any more. Power scaling is completely thrown out and remember how long it took our main protagonists in DB and DBZ to increase their power? pfft forget that, now anyone can make exponential LEAPS in strength in a few episodes. Remember when Goku first achieved SSJ, how much of an achievement that like, the legendary transformation. Well forget all that, now all you need to achieve that is a good nights sleep and a hearty breakfast. Want that new form? Don't need to train for it, just dig really deep, okay? Granted this started in the Buu saga in DBZ, which I also didn't enjoy.
To conclude what has been a pretty messy review, I wanted to like super, but everything was against me:
- Bad writing
- Bad continuity (Character development from the previous series gone)
- Bad pacing
- Power scaling
