While the movie wasn't terrible, I was disappointed because I had high expectations for it. Most of the reviews seem to be overwhelming positive and it is ranked first so I guess most people enjoyed it. However for me, the story lacked alot while the art was outstanding (which is my opinion on most Makoto Shinkai's works).
STORY
I found the first half of the movie to be enjoyable and after the plot-twist, it kind of went downhill. The sci-fi element wasn't executed very well, alot of the times it felt as if happened all for plot convenience. The time travel and constant body-switching felt too

Firstly, the animation is really good. The backgrounds are animated extremely well. I think that saved the story a bit, which was lacking alot in comparison.
The plot is about a 15 yr old boy who meets this 27 yr old woman in this garden on rainy days. They talk and he kind of falls in love with her. I find their age gap to be quite unsettling and awkward. Also he is a student and she is a teacher so that makes it even weirder. The shoe/foot scene was uncomfortable to watch. From Detective Conan Movies 1 to 15, I like this one the most. The virtual reality concept is interesting and it's set in London which is a nice change. Also includes Jack the Ripper and Sherlock Holmes which made it more interesting.
There is an in-game culprit and real life culprit (in Conan's world) which is pretty cool. The culprit is predictable and the mystery wasn't extremely complicated but it was still exciting to watch. In terms of art and music, it's decent. I didn't really pay much attention to it at all while watching. In general, I find the older Conan movies to be more ... Oct 1, 2016
What I liked:
-The animation was alright. It wasn't amazing but wasn't terrible either although the quality did seem to reduce a bit towards the end. -Sound was alright too. -Includes some more serious themes (depression, suicide) and also a little sci-fi elements (parallel worlds). What I didn't liked: -The female main character, Naho, was incredibly annoying and got increasingly annoying as the episodes went on. She is the generic shoujo female main with an extremely shy personality but a nice and caring person to her friends. -The male main character, Kakeru, wasn't much better but a slightly easier to understand when you look at his circumstances. Nevertheless, ... |
