Good review for 20th century boys!

Hey dude, cool Durarara!! review you made, very cool, and it's definitely flat-out boring and humorless compared to Paranoia Agent, which handles the non-linear narrative and comedy much better.

Hiya! Just another person here who wanted to say that I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU ON YOUR REVIEW FOR DURARARA!!! I decided to watch the anime because it appeared to be incredibly popular and well-liked by many people but throughout the whole series, I just kept wondering, "is this going to get better? It has to...shouldn't it?" And I guess it does get a certain bit more intense by ep 18 when things finally came to a full circle and I realize why the main characters are who they are, but still, the pacing was GOD AWFUL and like you said, karma was totally nonexistent which really annoyed me. I was glad that Izaya finally got a huge massive black eye, but I agree with you as well that he should die in a fire (or, I would find it incredibly satisfying if Shizuo finally gave the finishing blow on him)...Izazya is an incredibly interesting character though despite being absolutely despicable. AND, I also agree with you on Masaomi and Shizuo being probably the two best characters in the whole show...if it weren't for them, I definitely couldn't have finished the show. The main "hero" Mikado and Anri were just too boring of characters...

Ahaha :) No worries, I find it quite a refresher that I can argue with somebody over the internet and STILL keep it polite -_- So many people are complete dickhead, it's not even funny. So thank you for that, it is very much appreciated.

I found your Durarara!! review to be a bit.... emotional. It seemed to mainly focus on how much you hated the character interactions, and how none of the characters seemed "realistic". I struggled to find an objective argument in there, in fact at a couple points, your argument consisted of "I'm sorry, but no.". While I agree that the show has flaws, it all comes down to how much one enjoys the show, and you are (supposed to be) writing reviews so that others can decide whether or not they will like the show. So you should provide more objective content, so that they can decide for themselves if they will like the show or not.

Don't tell them that their favorite color is green, when in fact it might be blue.

Other than that, it did point out some flaws in the show, which I think are crucial to point out, but also pointed out some flaws that were only flaws to you. I thought some of the broken character interaction really worked. But, that's just me. Either way, keep on writing reviews, as I think you are quite good at it, when you don't get absorbed in how much you hate the show.

^.^ thanks for taking the time to read this!

I know u wrote it last year and all, but id just like to say great Durarara review. I agree on all your points and couldn't have written a better review my self. Such an overrated series.

Nice "T&B" review.

Wah! I'm so jealous you've actually had the pleasure of trying those foods! I could always, like, make my own from Youtube channels like cookingwithdog and runnyrunny999 (highly rec videos), but ehh, my cooking skillz are very limited to pastas and mexican food. I heard that cooking is very similar to Chemistry... can you testify to that statement? ;D

Alright, I do enjoy series that aren't too drawn out, so I'll definitely give Madoka SMM a go and let you know! As for Fruits, yes, I do remember my friend who owns both the anime and manga series that there were darker elements contrary to that huge smile Tohru always graces the covers with. My zodiac animal is Monkey, so I wonder what that character's like lol.

As for Ghibli: waah Kiki was my childhood! ...that I don't... quite... remember...
It's actually been 10+ years since I've seen the movie so it definitely deserves a rewatch through a more appreciative lens. I don't mind crying (eh heh), but after reading Grave of Fireflies' premise I'll have to prepare myself with tissues and someone to hug afterwards lol.

Thanks for all the recs and having these little chats with me! You've been a great help and I like your slightly self-deprecating and sarcastic sense of humor. (Umm, did I word that weird? I meant it in a good way! :D)
sung_moon Feb 27, 2012 1:11 PM
Aha, so thaaat's what you meant by "government dog!" How funny of you to put it in that way (Well actually, not so much if you meant it with a negative connotation lol -__-)

But yes, the engineer is freelance while the scientist has remained with the same group in Puerto Rico testing the environmental pollution.

I can't say I'm loose with my money but I love cute (yet unnecessary) knick-knacks and fatty foods-- 2 things Japan has an abundance of! I actually don't care much for the typical sushi/sashimi but I've always wanted to have takoyaki, okonomiyaki, and all that other good stuff.

As for anime, idk, I've yet to watch Mahou Shoujo MM, Fruits Basket, and most of the Studio Ghibli movies despite being highly recommended. Do you have any suggestions? I like character-driven plots but tidbits of action are really nice too.
sung_moon Feb 26, 2012 4:56 PM
Well how rude of me to have not commented since I friend requested you lol!

I read your profile-- that's great that you've traveled to many places! One cousin of mine is a chemical engineer and another a project scientist, both get paid to work abroad alot (how very jealous I am lol). Since you're of similar occupation, is that also the case?

Personally, I would also like to go to Japan! My friends went for a hs field trip for a week and they had a blast! The scenery, culture, souvenirs and food are my main priorities. Wanna eat fresh ramen/street food, and get my otaku on and perhaps hit up the more tame parts of Akihabara too haha ;) But I might wait on it in case of any lingering radiation from the earthquake/tsunami. Sounds lame and paranoid of me, but I don't like to mess around with anything nuclear ever since I underwent radiation for my thyroid in 2010. Should you go, you should definitely let us know how it was!

Anyways, since we share a few animes between us, I'll definitely have to take the ones from your list into consideration! It's been awhile since I've picked up a decent series ;)
