Literally do not bother with this anime. Save yourself the headache and misery that I did.
Let me start off by saying I love the idea of the premises that is "The Kingdom of Ruins". I've always loved revenge stories and edgy characters, super traumatic backstories, so on so forth. That's my jam and that's exactly what this anime look as though it were selling on a silver platter for me. Adonis was the perfect catalyst for this raging storm path of revenge and he was providing exactly what I wanted in those first few episodes. He sought revenge for the sake of his witch caretaker
...
Chloe and by god he'd see that everyone suffered as he had suffered!
...Things get muddled however as he's rescued from a death situation and whisked away by surviving witches who had not yet been slain! On the moon. Sure, fine, that could work. We meet Ophelia, the remaining witches, how they wish to put up a resistance against the humans that wronged them. Surely Adonis could jive with that, even if he had some reservations about how they treated Chloe. Could have used this time to get a better grasp on his powers, learned from the witches, about Chloe's past--
Oh wait, he decided to lead the humans right to them! He had a tracker embedded in him and apparently decided to leave that in himself after he escaped jail. He's now moved the goalpost and thinks the witches should perish too. That and now we've come to the point of a nonstop slaughterfest and a whole lotta unnecessary gore to the point the entire ground is ankle deep pool of blood. All the witches are dead/dying and the witch queen Ophelia who could have been something more turned into a one bit wonder. Yamato is dead, his sister in comatose, the main antagonist Goathe is also dead, just about everyone on the main cover of this anime is dead within the span of 5 episodes. What's left? Where do they go from here?
Nowhere. Nothing. The main duo returned to earth and are now wandering aimlessly. There is no story other than Adonis wants to kill humans except now its not ALL humans. Suddenly he has a heart and turns into this tsundere of making threats and never acting on them. The queen has taken over meanwhile and her coronation debut is a shoddy almost no animation idol dance to catch the hearts of men under her control. That's about where the anime is sitting at the moment of this review.
Story aside, the animation is abysmal. The further in you get, the harder the quality crashes. Slideshow on slideshow presentation. Long lasting stills and animation that isn't exactly animation unless you count basic mouth talking and head movements. You don't really notice quite at first in the beginning, but these latest episodes you can absolutely tell how awful it is.
As a final thing of note and not mentioned anywhere is that this anime/manga series is actually a sequel of some untranslated manga(comic?) called "The Kingdom of Caliburn". Apparently where the queen witch Dorothea originates from and why she's here to begin with, but we know nothing about it. There's no way to really access that media and what has been translated looks like an MS paint project. Not that any of this will truly come into play, because the Kingdom of Ruins manga is nowhere near complete nor does it have any direction either. No clue if this is going to wind up being an anime only ending or not, considering all of this, but I can't stand to watch Kingdom of Ruins any further.

This anime was never really on my radar until a friend brought it up to me and asked if it was any good or worth watching. She's a big Three Kingdoms fan after all and wanted a viewpoint from an unbiased source who knows literally zip about that sort of thing. I figured I may as well give it an earnest shot and binged the whole thing in the span of a few days.
I'll start with the good: Kongming
He's what really brings this show to life with his antics. A fun character all around who has a remedy for any situation, despite his lack of
...
knowledge about the present modern day. He picks up on it quick however while mixing in what he had learned from the past. My friend especially found interest in the premises of a reverse isekai (past to future instead of vice versa) and I the same. It was interesting to see him interact with others and was all around a good time! The opening is such a catchy tune too, you can't help but love it.
But aside from that... the show is pretty mid. Its your basic rise to stardom idol anime. And as much as I enjoyed the initial first half of the series, the later half just about ruins it and sours the experience for me.
What was the point of recruiting a rapper? Just to almost never see him interact with the main cast and show up at the end to randomly diss a crowd? I loved seeing him at first and his rap battle with Kongming, but after that he may as well have ghosted everyone! Then there's the whole "100 likes" arc which just... focuses solely on Eiko playing nice with a sudden too fast friendship. It's sweet, but this is the point where we just stop seeing Kongming for the most part as he takes a back seat. Not to mention they apparently decided to duke out the final episodes in the middle of the city, just a random location driving up in loaded trucks and just... concerts out of nowhere? Was any of this even legal? Heck, they started off the arc with Azaela having only 10k likes at best, and yet they somehow had the means to attract 90k more random people with a carrot on a stick?
I would have put this as not recommended if not for the fact that I can see some people actually like this and somehow rate it so highly. It's an OKAY show, but there's just nothing to it that would make me ever want to rewatch.

What can I say other than... it was just okay? It's fine if you've got nothing better to do and want to see a few little extra omake-like bits for the original hanako, but honestly most of the humor was lost on me. Very quick and short little bits that mainly revolve around the little mokke, sometimes a little of something else. All it really did was make me miss the first season and wish for more story again.
Either way. Art is on point. Seeing the characters you miss is great. But you're not missing anything important or all that fun anyways. At least the
...
halloween bit made it just a little worthwhile!

I really wanted to like this one. I really did. But there's just so much wrong here that I'm wondering if the season 2 will truly help or not.
When I saw this anime, I was thinking I'd be getting something similar to the Shinsekai Yori series. It looked similar at first and lured me in with its intriguing world and wild art style. The opening song especially ended up being one of my favorite bangers of the season!
But without delving too into spoilers, I felt like much of my time was wasted. The first 1-2 episodes are amazing and pulls you in. Then it
...
slows down and drags. The characters narrative falls incredibly flat at times and you can't help but wonder what the MC girl is thinking half the time. She's a child who hardly speaks and one who's kind of just dragged into things while rarely making any difference. The MC boy has a lot more interesting things going on with his side of things, but even then you're left with more questions than answers. Talking sequences in general feel very off-putting and stiff. The only good things going on for these characters is their designs... and little more. Excellent wonderful designs but not much else. You learn things here and there, but by the end of the final episode I'm left feeling like I know so little still.
Then you get to the obvious art style direction. Beautiful and interesting at first as they allowed themselves to draw animation freely. Then later on growing stiff and really funky at times. Not in a good way. Some might think it was a style choice to go as clunky as they did, but its clearly a low budget sort of thing going on as well. Still frame panels on top of still frames, action scenes where the action hardly moves... If I wanted to watch a slideshow I'd make one myself. Most of the budget went into the OP as far as I can tell.
Will I watch the eventual season 2? Maybe out of morbid curiosity to see where it goes since I'm still truly interested in the world itself. But all in all, with how much other anime is being cranked out at all times of late, I'd rather be spending my time watching something else.

I was honestly, truly looking forward to the new kekkai sensen season. My friend and I absolutely adored the first season. It had the right amount of craziness and enough plot to keep us going. Because of how great the first season was, we both went into this with high expectations. But this season... has been a train wreck.
With only 3 episodes left, I have very little hope that there's going to be a truly satisfying ending. Seeing the preview for the next episode even further solidifies my feeling.
The format has been that of an episodic anime, where something that happens in one episode doesn't
...
really correlate with another. Nothing connects. There's very little actual story going on. We're getting GREAT episodes that focus on one character at a time where we learn about a specific character, but that's all Beyond has going for it.
There's nothing building up. No story other than "yeah crazy shit is happening again". We're being introduced to new characters that I can't feel anything for because, again, we only focus on them for like one episode and that's it.
For the most part, Kekkai Sensen and Beyond is nice if you're wanting a snapshot of one of the main cast's day in everyday life. But you're also missing very little if you choose to skip around.
