Just a guy in his mid twenties with an equal shit taste in anime as you are (probably shittier)
I highly recommend watching shows that I rate starting from 9 because anything lower than that may acquire some degree of patience and a higher sense of appreciation to enjoy especially shows as fluffy as K-ON! and Yuru Yuri or those hundreds of episodes of shonen series I avoid watching on purpose.
I rate all shows with a starting rate of 5 and gradually decrease/increase by one point as the show progresses. I take note of how does the writers and animators get their message across to the viewers (in this case, me of course) throughout the series. A good musical score with memorable openings and endings are always welcomed. Strong, admirable and empathetic characters in the series will help complement that. Fan-service is a plus although not necessary.
Some older shows especially the ones before 2010 is reviewed based on how much enjoyment I can recall watching it back then. I don't watch all series in a season simultaneously. I pick one that piques my interests the most, the other one that everyone on the internet recommends to the point it is referred to the next big shonen shit or something everyone seems to say it’s god level good and the one that everyone make memes out of (Blend S, Eromanga-sensei, Kobayashi etc..) and proceed to only watch those three shows in a season. However I'll be glad to add another series to watch if it's something I've been waiting for. I'll watch the rest of the shows of the season when somehow someone or something urges me to and I happen to have some extra free time to spare.
Again, to reiterate, I rate these shows based on my personal preference and taste. It may seem loose at times but that's only because I am no expert in creative writing and all that jizz but I do have an animation and multimedia production background. If the show's core message is easily understood by a person with a shit taste like me, you can probably get the point as well and appreciate them as much as I do.
