--SPOILER FREE--
Walmart Cowboy Bebop? I think so!
Coming from Yasuke's creator LeSean Thomas. Cannon Busters was vastly better than his follow up Yasuke but still was a poor series overall. The premise is always there but the delivery has failed twice; As someone who likes the premise and ideas of Thomas's work I can only hope his next and third project is peak.
--STORY--
5/10
We follow Philly the Kid, a guy who is a mix of Spike and Vash with the supernatural power of infinite lives. He meets Casey and S.A.M. two robots who are running from pursuers but are honestly clueless about it in a sense. They
...
run into Philly and it follows the format of Samurai Champloo of three people going on adventures episode to episode running into multiple issues along the way. While this is all underway the trio is trying to find S.A.M.'s best friend along this journey to save her and her best friends kingdom.
The story truthfully was a snooze fest, I felt myself struggling to stay engaged the entire time; it felt like a cheap ripoff rather than a true original story.
--ART--
8/10
This is Cannon Busters best quality. The designs and animation were fun and colorful. The colors, animation, and designs were the only things keeping me engaged.
--SOUND--
6/10
Again, very basic nothing to wild. Voice actors both sub and dub were mediocre. The intro and outro weren't good either, this is something I hope Thomas can greatly improve on his next project.
--CHARACTER--
3/10
Terrible. Philly is Spike and Vash's worst qualities put into an annoying poorly written character. S.A.M., Casey, and 9ine are also forgettable. S.A.M. is an obnoxious, loud, robot with short term memory. 9ine is just an old guy who used to be strong and tags along for virtually no real reason. Casey did have some funny moments but that is just due to Casey either being a brick or smartass.
--ENJOYMENT--
3/10
There are a few shows I have enjoyed this little and finished. That being said, I absolutely hated this show even more than Yasuke. Yasuke had some enjoyability even though it was one of the worst adapted animes in recent time. Cannon Busters on the other hand had no redeeming qualities other than it having a good color scheme and mediocre animation.
--OVERALL--
4/10
I can't even classify this show as mid. It was just purely unenjoyable, it needed better writing, fights, story and characters for me to consider it even mid.
If you do choose to watch Cannon Busters, just prepare for a slow burn bad Cowboy Bebop rip-off.

--MINOR SPOILERS--
THIS IS NOT A "FURRY" ANIME.
I too had the same thoughts going into it of it will be awful and rhetorically asking myself, "How is watching a anthropomorphic wolf chase a rabbit for love going to be good?"
Now that the obvious is stated and out of the way, this review will cover S1-S2 because I have a very similar opinion on both.
--STORY--
10/10
...
Our story is told in a society of anthropomorphic animals that is socially stratified between carnivores and herbivores. The herbivores fear the carnivores because of their hunger for meat rather than the tofu and imitation meat they eat to fit in. This is how the story of our protagonist Legoshi, a gray wolf, is told. He is a high school student who at his core has never had a desire to eat flesh and is one of the more kind hearted, innocent souls at Cherryton Academy. Yet he is feared just because he is born as a gray wolf. He meets Haru who is a petite white rabbit. The story follows these two and how Legoshi falls in love with Haru but this is frowned upon due to the state their society is in.
--ART--
9/10
The art itself is in all honesty, near perfect. Manga and Anime the characters, clothing, world around them, and everything else looks great. For an anime that is CGI it is beyond the description of perfection. The only flaw is, yes there is variation between characters but I wish they would've added some more uniqueness to Legoshi. As I also stated previously, the animation is genuinely the best CGI anime I have ever seen. The fights are top tier when it comes to animanga and they are all smooth, fluid, and well choreographed. Beastars also has scenes where the screen splits into two and it's a element Orange implemented and knocked out of the park. The CGI doesn't feel nor look clunky and slow. It doesn't feel cheap either; full props to Studio Orange for putting out such a well animated project.
--SOUND--
8/10
When it comes to sound design there are multiple facets to look at. Voice acting will be the first, and I will say I watched this show in dub and felt the dub voice actors did a stellar job. I typically don't care what I watch a show in but I do feel the dub was more natural per say for Beastars. All the voice actors put a great amount of effort and emotion into every line, you could feel any emotions given from the scenes.
The next topic would be the sound design itself. There isn't any powerups like Super Saiyan or anything of the sort, it's just anthropomorphic animals that are similar to humans in the sense they are normal; yet, they have their freakish speed and or strength depending on the animal. The sounds they make are not bad, the fight scenes sound good, depending on the setting the characters are in their voices are projected well. The rest of the sounds like gunshots, hits, walking, etc all do sound natural and don't sound too fake like some animes overemphasize a punch or footstep.
The final aspect of sound is the best part of Beastars sound category, music. Both of the intros are amazing, even if you give the show a shot and dislike it, you will still love the intro and even outro themes. YOASOBI never misses and made the best outro I have heard in a long time. The OST's are all beautiful as well. There is a good mix of upbeat songs with sad slow songs to make you feel despair. The jazzy feel in some of the slower songs is a phenomenal touch. Since this show is technically a shounen it does have it's battle themes. They are no slouches, they can hold their own with the elite as well.
--CHARACTER--
10/10
The absolute PEAK of Beastars. Legoshi, Louis, Panda, Haru, and Riz are all amazing characters. They have some of the best peaks, great themes, stellar development, dynamics work perfectly. This series thrives on how its characters interact and grow throughout the story and I cannot stress enough how well Itagaki wrote her characters.
--ENJOYMENT--
10/10
I love Beastars and was almost tempted to read the manga after season 2 just because of how enjoyable this series is. Forget the suggestive scenes, they are miniscule to everything else because Beastars is something that is so much more and has more depth than just animals wanting to bang. The love element is still very well written. I projected this series to be in my bottom 10 but its quite the contrary sitting at my #7 spot with potential to hit top 3 by how it's going.
--OVERALL--
9/10
I rate it a 9 because I personally was not the biggest fan of the closure of season 2 (the fight and buildup was 10/10 though) but other than that and obviously the suggestive scenes, there is literally no other flaws. Don't have a closed mind when it comes to Beastars and don't have a closed mind with any show. Try it for a few episodes with any previous bias out the door. Trust me, you will find out that at first glance something may seem off but in the end it is truly a work of art.

--MINOR SPOILERS--
This review will be covering all the seasons that are currently animated.
For starters, this sat on my watch list for roughly two years and I regrettably waited that long to actually watch the series.
--STORY--
8/10
The story is not life altering, nor is it something that is complex. It is a dual-protagonist show with Dazai and Atsushi being the focal points. The plot itself starts as Atsushi being saved by Dazai and joining the Armed Detective Agency, at this point it does become more battle shounen with slice of life elements implemented. The main antagonists the Port Mafia are the first villain's we are introduced in
...
and we are given the dynamics between the members of the two groups. It follows typical troupes of them fighting and getting stronger until we are introduced to The Guild and Rats in the House of the Dead. Then back to the normal formula of battle shounen but BSD does a good job with it's dynamics and usage of characters which I will touch on later in the review. The backstories, more specifically The Dark Era arc is the strongest plot points of the series. This arc explores Dazai and his past.
The plot does nothing to different but it does implement very well written characters with great dynamics. The groups also feel like real threats to our protagonists in this series.
I am going to include the power system into this part and I will say this is one of my top power systems in anime. It's power system is just called "Abilities." They range from negating one's power completely to putting someone into a book (kind of like a pocket dimension) to controlling gravity. A ability user can only have one ability but each power in the series is unique and a huge strength to BSD.
--ART--
9/10
The art itself isn't something like One Piece or JoJo's in it's originality but it also has it's differences. The character design fits every character perfectly and all the outfits they're given are well drawn. The only issue is I do wish the mangaka would take a different character style because their faces do feel very basic compared to most.
However, the animation by Bones is great. I have some Bones bias but who doesn't? They adapt and animate every show almost perfectly. The fights are fluid. The characters move good across the screen, powers are animated well. As I stated, who doesn't have some Studio Bones bias?
--SOUND--
8/10
I will cover voice acting, sound effects, OST's and all music in this section.
Voice acting both Dub and Sub is great. As someone who thinks the long debate of Dub vs Sub argument is stupid, this show will please both sides. I personally prefer it's dub because Dazai and Mori have amazing dub actors but the sub for both of them are amazing as well. So if you're wondering whether to take the dub or sub route, watch whatever you prefer; it doesn't matter.
Sound effects are fine in the show. It doesn't have anything bass boosted like Fire Force or JoJo's but the sound effects still have that "feel" to them.
The music, it's in the realms of the best in anime. BSD in all honestly has peak music; if you disagree you're wrong. The openings are 10/10's, TRASH CANDY is still the best out of them. The OST's are amazing as well. Every fight has that epic theme behind it, all the music is rock based or jazz based. The OST's fit the characters and make the greatly animated fights even more hype.
--CHARACTERS--
10/10
Now for the strongest part of this series in my opinion. Dazai alone is a better character than most shounen animes. He has the quite literal dying urge to die; he wants to die a painless death to suicide and that is one of his whole elements as a character. Not going to deep into anything, Dazai and Atsushi are the perfect dual-protagonist duo due to Dazai's urge to die and Atsushi wanting to also die but this is due to his past rather than a flat obsession with suicide. Chuuya is another one of the best characters, his admiration for Dazai who is his enemy plays out very well. The leaders of all the organizations in BSD are also peaks for the series. Each character is enjoyable on the surface but can also been analyzed to a deeper level which is something some shows can't accomplish.
--ENJOYMENT--
10/10
At this point, you can all probably tell I love this series. It is my number two favorite anime I have watched to this point (tied with the fate series) and whenever we are given another season I will indubitably binge it. There's something for everyone in this show, I recommend it to anyone looking for a series that will keep them engaged.
I have never finished a show that wasn't 12 episodes or shorter faster than BSD, this show was honestly captivating when I watched it all back in 2019.
--OVERALL--
9/10
If you do watch this near masterpiece you'll be glad you did without a doubt. It is not a perfect show, you can very well pick out flaws. However, it is vastly better than most shounens. Stop sleeping on BSD!
