This season was pretty infuriating to watch. (this review is gonna be full of spoilers btw)
I absolutely loved the first season, great idea and execution, so I waited 4 years for the next season, even avoided the manga as to not get spoilers. I was rewarded with trash. I haven't been this disappointed by a release in a long time.
First of all, I'm gonna try to cover all the main parts of the anime, story, art, sound, character and enjoyment.
1) Story. 4/10
The story is fine, mediocre. Nothing spectacular, pretty cliche. One thing I found really annoying is how little Saitama is actually in the show,
...
it was unbelievably infuriating seeing how all these episodes play out with One Punch Man, the hero of the story, either barely being in the episode or not being in it at all.
The story itself of the Monster Association attacking the Hero association and humanity in general is also very cliche and the monsters don't really have a motivation besides "We're evil because that's how we are so we're gonna go kill some people because we're evil, because that's just how we are". Their motivations are absent, most of the time they either just kill and attack people for no reason or they have some sort of grudge against a hero they lost to, it's hard to even view them as characters.
The last 3 episodes were pretty good tho, as good as you can expect when you've been met with a subpar show up until then.
2) Art 6/10
Yeah, the art is fine. Is it better than the first one? Definitely not. Is it on par with the first one? Once again, definitely not.
3) Sound 6-10
The sound is fine, the op is pretty catchy but otherwise forgettable. Same with the outro.
4) Characters.7/10
Saitama is annoying in this one, but the same can be said for every single one of the characters. He's practically the same but less funny and he just isn't on screen most of the time. He's had 0 development and even though him on screen was the only tolerable thing, he was barely in the goddamn show. WHAT WERE THE WRITERS THINKING??? HE DOESN'T SHOW UP IN HIS OWN SHOW. And don't bullshit me with "Ohhh he's too strong and if he showed up too much it would become stale" NO! He literally shows up at the last second to save the day, he DID NOT do this in the first season, he was much more present and it didn't get stale at all.
Genos the same, he had his moments of development.
Garo was the more enjoyable part of the season, I liked him and he was very fleshed out as a character.
5) Overall enjoyment? 4/10
This show was pretty infuriating to watch, most of the time on screen were solely side characters that I had absolutely no interest in seeing. When Saitama entered that martial arts tournament and everybody, when he was off somewhere jacking off or something, was fighting this monster, it seemed to me that the writers were trying to make us connect with those characters and make us care about them. What?? I couldn't possibly give less of a shit about these useless characters that are just so unbelievably cliche.
Sorry for the long rant, this is just my opinion and I had to vent somewhere about how infuriating and stupid this season was.
