At the start of the anime, it was the typical rom-com. And in typical fashion, the girl that the main character sees first always ends up being the main love interest. The more the anime went on, the more and more I disliked the main character's biological father until I ended up fully despising him. I also ended up disliking his sister for basically being a spy in order to eat fancy food all the time. As for Erika, she's pretty annoying. The basic tsundere-type. For once ... I wanted a manga/anime that would subvert my expectations and let the main character get the girl he originally wanted. Yet in the last 2 episodes, they totally change her character's personality into some bad girl that loves booze. Why do all manga/anime follow the same bland linear path instead of subverting people's expectations? It's like I am watching the same stuff over and over. Main character sees girl, funny/awkward things happen in the first episode, plot forces them into situations, plot introduces other love interests that end up being pointless, character's personas change abruptly, main character gets with first girl even if it seems forced in the end. I mean, I give the animation and sound a 10/10. As for the story, it barely gets a 7 from me. I'm being generous since the story isn't complete garbage. Just tired of the same old plot.

Most definitely your typical OP main character style Isekai. The characters were very playful and cute. The overall story wasn't that bad and had a very easy to follow plot. It could have done without the Isekai beginning portion and would have just done fine as a standard fantasy anime. I assume it's placed in there to highlight why he has scientific knowledge to augment his abilities. It's certainly nothing phenomenal, but worth the watch. I'm generous and give it a 7/10 overall. If it manages to get another season I'd watch it for sure. Good anime for kids and for adults that like Isekai.

Seeing the high score on MAL made me think this was going to be a good Shojou Romance. I was in for a rude awakening with this one. As I have lived in Japan for over a decade, I know full well the patriarchal dominance and chauvinism of a good portion of male citizens. Naoki is nothing more than a pretty face hiding a terrible persona. Kotoko is mentally subdued by him throughout the entirety of the show. He treats her terribly 99% of the time. He mentally and emotionally abuses her. When he realizes he is losing his hold on her at ... a myriad of times, he uses flashy words or phrases to manipulate her into running back into his arms. He treats her like a tool to keep himself at ease with little care for her feelings until the last few episodes where he just slightly cares due to her situation (trying not to spoil too much). Many viewers were calling him a tsundere. He isn't. He is just a toxic male persona. The entire time watching all I could think of was actions speak louder than words. As I said, he used a lot of flashy wordage, but he rarely used action as proof. Naoki's family and Kotoko's father were all oblivious to the terrible way he treated her (save for his mother who sometimes got upset, but not enough for Naoki to care). They also added to the issues by not taking her feelings into account for a majority of the show. *Slight Spoiler* The biggest failure was Kotoko's father sitting down with Naoki at one point for a friendly chat about why she ran away near the end half of the series due to Naoki's treatment of her. He put his own daughter down while talking about how she is similar to his wife and even sympathized with Naoki having to deal with it. A real father would chew him out for treating his daughter like a cold-hearted jerk, not stroll down memory lane. *End Spoiler* This is definitely not an anime for kids who can't use logic when viewing as it sets a bad example of how one should act in relationships. As for the other characters they all have many terrible personas. From people only loving someone based off looks, trying to steal other people's lovers, trying to cheat (honeymoon episode), being creepy, or going as far as forcing themselves onto other characters, this is not a show worth enjoying. There are plenty of beautiful Shoujou and non-Shoujou Romance anime out there worth your time. Unless you really want to watch this to see how disgusting people can be, I advise finding something better.

I found the whole story to be very cringy at best due to everything I stated above. Hence the pathetic score. The art was slightly old-school which I don't mind, but the elongated chins were odd looking. Hence the fair score. The sound was fine. Characters... It's what really drove home the terrible nature of this anime. While there was progression for everyone, most of their personas stayed the same disgusting shade. Hence dreadful. I didn't get much enjoyment out of it, but I never drop anime and watched it until the end. Overall, it was not worth it. Please don't be fooled by the score.

In the mere 12 episodes this anime had, each one was hilarious. To start with, the opening theme is one of the must watch. Extremely catchy James Bond-esque sound. Each episode had 2 or 3 stories inside. The narrator really added to the enjoyment at the end of each story. The overall story was the constant battle between Kaguya and Miyuki to make the other fall in love first. The hilarity made me laugh so hard at times I had tears. I really liked the art style and sound usage throughout. Character-wise, I loved Chika. She really steals the main characters thunder in a ... lot of the episodes. If you are looking for a really good RomCom, this is it! Here's hoping for another season!

This was a fantastic anime in the sense that it shows the struggles of high school life in Japan as well as the difficulties in regular life through trying to chase their dreams. While it starts out very comedic, there are plenty of dramatic slice-of-life portions for an even balance as the show plays out. While the male characters acted really scummy at times, they are depicting high school kids that do not have a complete understanding of their emotions. As for Mashiro and Misaki being exceptional in their respective fields and out of reach of the other members of Sakurasou, it shows the strength ... of the regular members working as hard as they can to make your dreams come true. The raw emotion during failure and the positive vibe during success are captured extremely well. The bonds that the residents of Sakurasou have versus the standard dorm students is powerful and the traditional graduation song really encapsulates that idea. It was a beautiful story.

Spoiler Free Review:
This series will literally change your view on life and help you understand what is really important. With light comedy and heavy hitting emotional scenes, this is a must watch slice of life anime that tackles real-world fears and difficulties. I laughed a few times and cried a great deal. As someone with depression and anxiety, I will give a fair warning to those with similar conditions. If you are not prepared, it will affect you to the extent that your body is in literal pain. Do not binge watch it like I foolishly did and watch it a little at a time. ... Please be very careful as you watch it and be mindful of your own health. Aside from that, this is one of the most beautiful anime I have had the pleasure to watch and it makes you really feel for every character. I highly recommend watching from the first season. I also recommend the Kyou/Ryou and Tomoyo alternate stories to help you understand the last actual episode of After Story and why things seem to restart. This anime is based on a fantastic game and those with knowledge of it easily understood what happened at the end of this anime. If you are confused at the end of episode 22, there are many explanations online or by other reviewers here. There is a very good explanation in the comments section of episode 22 on KissAnime. I don't do spoilers. I hope you get as much enjoyment and see the world differently after watching this series as I did. Enjoy the beautiful story of Clannad and the struggles of Tomoyo to protect what matters most.

I found this anime very deep and intriguing. The story was a good mix of drama, comical, romantic and serious. The art style is absolutely beautiful from the scenery to the characters. The character development was great when considering each episode was split by entire months in both the real world and in the show. The growing romance between Shichika and Togame was a beautiful thing to watch and at times pulled on various emotions. My expectations were well exceeded and had me wanting more even after the conclusion of the series. As a person who has no issue with heavy amounts of talking, I ... really enjoyed the show. Though, the ending was slightly difficult to handle for someone as emotional as me. The show will make you laugh and cry. Overall, I highly recommend this anime for anyone that likes beautiful art, amazing stories, rich characters, historical settings, and having their emotions brought out. It has become part of my top ten anime.

This anime feels very unresolved. Too bad the anime didn't do so well. I would have liked another season to at least patch up all the plot holes. The sister killer on Tor. The father killer Julie. The confronting of the sick people in that room that make children fight to the death with grown brainwashed men in tech suits (most messed up part). The weird unexplained psycho killer teacher. I give it a 6/10 for making me feel unsatisfied on many fronts. Also, there was no duo to romance advancement between the two main characters and no kiss. Very disappointing.

This anime had me sold in the first three episodes. It's powerful and emotional. The entirety of episode three had me crying the entire time. I really don't know what to say other than I absolutely love this series. I have never been totally caught off guard by an anime before. I started it thinking it would be a basic school style romance anime. But with the added supernatural element, the amazing character development, the fantastic art style, and the heartwarming/heartwrenching scenes made me extremely emotional. If you love romance plots in anime, regardless of other genre mixes, I highly recommend this. Every episode so ... far has gotten me to cry, laugh, or get emotionally worked up to a certain degree. Even if you don't watch the entire anime, watch the first three episodes. If you don't get hooked on it after those three, you have no heart. This is truly a powerful anime. I honestly do not want it to end.

While many of the reviews are harsh for this anime, I'd like to give my perspective. I watch anime that have a heavy romance element. Action with other elements mixed in are great, but romance is my main focus when looking for anime. Yes, the story is similar to many other anime. It felt like a mashup of D. Gray Man, Bleach, Naruto and some others. I get that's why people were not happy about the story portion. I loved it though. The relationship between Benio and Rokuro. The familial sub-story with Sae. The constant separations from Benio to protect her. Her desperation to get ... back to him. I for one highly recommend the anime and hope they find a way to make a season 2 with them set to become husband and wife while still fighting to balance the world. I loved the story. The art was fantastic. The character development was gradual. And the music was cool. OP 3 was the best. Overall, I hope my review gets anyone new to the series to give it a shot. There are no shortage of below 7 ranked anime out there with a romance element. This is one of the few above that is worth your time.
