What can I say, just try to get past the character design.

As other reviewers have said, Kaiji suffers from over-excess internal dialogue, something that can become dreadful especially when it just keeps on dragging, but most of the time it's used (successfully) to build up tension, and along with the more than correct soundtrack, Kaiji certainly keeps you on your toes.

The story also suffers from trying to epic itself. Each situation tries to top the last one in terms of epic and thrill, so in the end you become more or less used to it so it's not as surprising as in the beginning (this ...

A great movie for both fans and non-fans of Studio Ghibli. The story is very catches your attention and the characters are endearing, if not a bit stereotypical (mostly the secondary ones). The endings feels a bit rushed trying to solve all plots, but at least it delivers.

By the way, what's the deal with all the Ghibli female characters getting their hair cut shoulder length short?? Seriously: Sheeta, Sophie, Nausicaa... ALL of them, either start with short hair or end up with it.

Mixed Feelings
I had great expectations for Earthsea, mostly because I loved the song by Terru and the beautiful poster with the dragon. I'm disappointed to say the movie did not live to my expectations. You can't really sympathize with any of the characters, and even though the art is outstanding at times it's also plain. I couldn't believe how unimpressed I was with the town, the most colorful part of the movie.

The thing that really drags this movie down is the most important part: the story. Things happen with little to none reason (and those reasons are either stereotypical or absurd), the pace is dreadful; drags ...
