As other reviews have mentioned, the story is very simple. The characters are bland and shallow. You have to believe in love at first sight, because certainly there are never any reasons for the characters to fall in love.
The art style has moments where it's excellent, but the animation is frequently very lazy. Even by OVA standards, the budget here feels low. Even when the art style is at it's best, to me it feels like a SHAFT wannabe.

I expected to like this show. An ecchi comedy about a programmer who doesn't work for money seems like just the kind of trash that I love. But now I can say with confidence that this is the worst anime I've ever watched. It's a masterclass on how not to make a good show.
Sexualisation of minors and incestuous relationships. Short episodes with long and unnecessary recaps at the start of half of them. Offensive treatment of a trans character. Lazy animation, with lots of scenes being obviously re-used. Characters being introduced, set up as if they are going to be significant, and then never seen ...

Clannad: After Story is an excellent anime. It's really well illustrated, paced, voice-acted, etc... It's really great to watch. But sadly the story is incomplete and in order to understand what took place you will NEED to read an explanation afterwards.
If Visual Novels are your thing, PLEASE play the VN before or instead of watching the anime. The VN has the whole story. I really want to give this a 10/10 because of how much I enjoyed watching it and how good the story is once it's been explained, but the fact that the story has to be explained means I just can't consider this ... |
