To be honest, when I heard about Senryuu girl, I didn't think much of it. it just didn't seem like my type of show, and Short-form anime don't always get to develop arcs at a good pace with the 12 minute runtime, so I was ready to pass it off. However, it's worth a shot if you have some extra time and you want a nice rom-com.
The first thing that hits you is how pleasantly simple the style of the show is. Both in art and characters, the show makes it easy to get used to the characters by providing simple backstories and letting the
...
on-screen chemistry take over from there. All of the initial characters work off each other rather nicely The art, however, is a bit of a letdown. I'm not sure if it was an intentional stylistic decision or just a budget thing, but the show avoids excessive movement whenever possible. As a result, the show can feel a little stiff during a few of the scenes. The music, from what I could tell, was on par with other shows of it's genre and the "com" in this "rom-com" has it's share of good moments.
Overall, it's fine. But there is one thing about it that really makes this show one to watch and support. The main character talks to everyone through poems on paper. Anime-only people might not get what I mean here, but this could be huge that a show like this exists now. I freaking love Komi-san, and now a show with a similar main character, quirk included, exists. We now have a benchmark for which we can try to see the plausibility of a Komi-san anime adaptation, and for that reason I believe this to be an influential show to remember this season. With enough support, we can get more shows like it, including the adaptation that more and more people are starting to ask for.

High Score Girl: Extra Stage. It's called this, but to say that it's "Extra" would not be true at all, as episode 12 ended on a cliff hanger even Teen Titans 2003 would be impressed with. A better name would have been "Final stage", like Inital D does.
Back to actually reviewing the show/ova, it picks up right after ep 12 of season 1. Haruo has been challenged by Hidaka, who serves as Sans to Oono's Asgore. Hidaka gets her challenge, and her arc gets a completion. Then comes what you really want, more of Haruo and Oono trying to make their way to each other
...
through their struggles, the main obstacle being Oono's family teacher. A concept that sounds like an anime villain even in real life. Haruo, with the help of a new character from Oono's family, finally designs a solution perfectly fitting the video game motif of the show. At the end we get a happy ending, a supposed season 2, and an Eva reference. Sounds as though the creators are team Asuka. (sould just be promotion for the new eva dub on netflix too.)
Overall, these last 3 episodes tie everything up into a nice bow, exactly how you'd want them to, and do so while still making use of the wonderful op and ed. Glad this is a show that actually got an ending, not all anime can say that. *cough* No Game No Life *cough*
Score: 7/10.
P.S.; I would have put this out around a week sooner, but my Pirate crew of choice didn't have it out on the release date MAL said, hence this is a bit later than preferred. oh well.

Let me start off by saying this: I am NOT a manga person. The potential for good op's and character voices just makes me lean towards animation. But my friend recommended this manga and showed me a couple memes of it, so I thought "Ok, I'll read a couple chapters that way I get any jokes about it." Then I started reading the first chapter.
And then I binge-read the whole series in a week and a half.
Miss Komi-San is Bad at Communication is one of the most wholesome, enjoyable slice of life series I've ever seen
...
or read in ages. Not perfect, mind you, but above average for the genre.
Story: 7- Komi-San follows, well, Komi-san (Komi Shouko), and is narrated by the main generic as always male character, Tadano Hitohito. Everyone in Itan High school thinks of Komi as a goddess for your usual anime reasons, and her never talking to everyone. This last part is perceived by the student body as her being above them. That couldn't be further from the truth. One day, Tadano falls asleep in class and wakes up to the sound of Komi meowing out of nowhere. Through some cute chalkboard writing we find out the real reason she doesn't talk is because she has a communication disorder. Because of this, Tadano decides to help her make friends. It is also for this reason that Komi writes in a notebook to communicate with others. Outside of the main character being a mute, the rest of the series is pretty standard with it's locations and story arcs, so you'll know what to expect from this show if you've seen anything else from the genre, like Haruhi.
Characters: 8.5- Komi-San handles its characters quite well, which is impressive because the cast is almost the size of HeroAca's 1-A. First up is Komi of course, who is basically a cuter version of Oono from High Score Girl with a notebook. Then there's Tadano, he's your normal guy character so let's skip him(reference). Najimi is a social mastermind, and a trap. According to Tadano, he/she was a guy during their childhoods. we also have Yamai, a yuri/yandere mix. she's the popular girl stereotype but actually nice. we also have Nakanaka. Think Megumin minus the explosions and you've got Nakanaka. there's like 6 or 7 more characters but I don't want to spoil them if you choose to read for yourself. the chemistry between them all flows nicely and each of them gets a fair amount of development.
Art: 8- The art is somewhat normal for manga. Komi herself is drawn in both an Anime and Chibi-face form depending on her current situation/ emotional state. Najimi tends to be the most expressive, and there's a nice little joke about how one of the character's speech bubbles is drawn, which is neat.
Enjoyment: 9- Like I said before, if you've seen any other slice of life show you pretty much know what you're in for, and it's how the writers put these characters into these places and situations that brings it to life. To be honest, the enjoyment would be at a 7 if it weren't for chapter 118. Not giving details other than "most adorable interaction in the series".
Overall: the manga gets a rating of 8.5. It's cute but it's main flaw to me is that of most slice of life's- they do a lot of the same stuff, but I guess it can't be helped. Komi-San also gets my personal score of: Animate it.
Do it. Right now.
Kyoto Ani or TBS, doesnt matter which. I'll even accept it from Madhouse.
Please. I must see this cinnamon roll in 30-60 fps.

As a kid I really enjoyed cars and the concept of racing. Upon getting into anime I started to also get in on a few of the memes in the anime world: SAO is bad, various jutsu's from Naruto, that stuff. But the main meme I knew and knew was anime was the running in the 90s meme. Luckily all of the Youtube compilations had the source anime in the title, and that's what led me to this old gem. Initial D is a pretty fun show with a bunch of things going for it.
The plot is not really one
...
of those things. It's NOT a bad plot, just a tad on the average side with the rival of the week layout. although, with the length of time for each race, rival of the month would have likely been more accurate if you watched the show while it aired.
The most unique thing about Initial D that I noticed was its animation. The characters are drawn to (presumably) match the manga that I haven't read, but the real interesting techniques come during the races. Every car is modeled in CG and placed onto the backgrounds. My only guess is that it was to save money, but it makes for a very quirky visual style that was improved with each stage. Cars became more detailed, and moved a little more dynamically.
The characters are all recognizable and have pretty unique personalities, cars included. Although most of the speed stars just sit on the sidelines and cheer on Takumi and his iconic 86. Even though this is the role Itsuki, Takumi's best friend, feels like he was designed to fill.
Either way, the races all feel tense and that they have an impact, a feat achieved through the writing and the use of the music. The music is usually what brings people to the show and it never dissapoints in the heat of battle. Deja Vu, Running in the 90s, Night of Fire, all the eurobeat sounds energetic and that energy bleeds into the races and even to real life if you get the music for yourself. It's a good idea to not drive under the influence of eurobeat. You'll probably end up speeding and getting pulled over faster than you can say "kansei dorifto".
The only real gripe is that Natsuki's love plot isn't handled the best. the reveal of the "guy in the Mercedes" is foreshadowed, but the reveal doesn't come until the Third stage movie. and even then the show gives you a flashback to remind you that the driver is not a new character.
Overall the show is a fun road trip back to some old school anime with plenty of charm and enough action to keep you hooked down to the bottom of the mountain of content in this show. its not Shonen anime long, but with 5 main stages and just as many extras, you wont be leaving the seat you're in for a while.
