I might as well live on the moon (moon, midwest, what's the difference?) when it comes to two of my favorite pastimes, which just so happen to be watching anime and reading manga (maybe I've finally come to the right place?). Seriously, none of my friends are really into anime, bunch a backwoods weirdos they are. Of course, I know that by most standards I'm the odd one, but I've totally come to terms with that.
I've recently decided that I need to embrace my fandom with others like me, so here I am. So, this website is sorta like a coming-out party, if the outside of that closet was the internet, and I was a delicious ham sandwich (Best comparison ever? No? You disappoint me).
I've always wanted to go to Japan, and I've been studying to the language for about 2 years now (my otakuness has the dual benefit as serving as a form of self-motivation). As far as where in Japan I would go: Kyoto, Tokyo, Hokkaido, Okinawa, and probably a few more. Ideally, my command of the language gets to the point where I can accept a job in Japan, an extended stay like that would be a dream come true.
I also need to give a shout out to Akihabara, it's like the mecca for anime fans. I don't own any figures or anything goofy like that, but if I ever get to Akihabara, I'm going get something awesome and gaudy (and hopefully I'll still have the guts to see this ridiculous idea through to the end). As you may have already guessed, I love the idea of traveling for pleasure. The sad thing is I haven't been to Asia at all. But I can say Europe makes for an excellent tour.
My recommendations: Venice (I'll been to a lot of amazing places, but this is tops, magical, it was like a dream, can't wait to go back), Rome (the Vatican City museums are amazing, more artistic masterpieces then you could possibly imagine, one lifetime wouldn't be enough to be able to appreciate it all), Munich (if you like beer and sausages, also, and I realize how random this is: the best Chinese restaurant I have ever been to), London (British Museum, Westminster Abbey, Windsor Castle, oh, and they speak proper English, too), Vienna (Lots of beautiful churches, museums, and great end of the 19th century architecture throughout a significant part of the city).
My list of places to go: Sydney, Australia, New Zealand (if it is half as awesome as it looks on LOTR, then it will totally be worth it), China (such a big country, I haven't been able to narrow down where exactly I want to go, I'll have to talk to my friends from China about it), Japan (see above), Alaska, Chile, India, Dubai.
Also , I'm, erm, quite the eligible bachelor. So, if you happen to know any attractive women between the ages 20-28 who are foolish enough, I mean, uh, who like to meet people on the internet and also like anime, just find some way to make that happen (Note: pure sarcasm). Anywho, now that I've pretty much guaranteed that anything mentioned in the previous sentence will never happen, I am almost satisfied with the About Me section of my profile.
And so now that you've read this, we should totally be best friends forever right?! Hrmmm, I guess that might be possible, just give me some time time to carefully consider the pros and cons of the offer and I'll get back to you. Just kidding, I'll probably base my decision on how awesome your profile picture is. So you've been warned, get an awesome profile pic or it just wasn't meant to be.
P.S. Oh ya, I've read lots more manga than what I've bothered to include on my list. I'm just lazy is all, I really only bothered to include the stuff I'm either currently reading (not the "just sort of reading cause I'm bored and don't have anything better to do for some reason" stuff, but the stuff I'm actually following each week) and the stuff I really enjoyed. And if you're into manga, do yourself a favor and read Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer, aka Hoshi no Samidare (the real Japanese title), aka Wakusei no Samidare (the other Japanese title, the manga uses the kanji for wakusei, but with the hiragana for hoshi given as its intended reading). Not sure why, but I'm really loving it right now.

I just downloaded AIM, if you ever want to chat, message me and Ill give you the screen name. Its way different than it was last time I used it.
I have all of season one of gundam 00 downlaoded and am in the process of downloading season two. When its finished im gonna watch it all together.
I really want to see that Gundam Seed Destiny Movie that was supposed to come out this year, but it got delayed because the creator get really sick.
And I know what you mean about the otaku singles. As far as Im concerned MAL could be used to find any kind of relationships. Thats how people use myspace. Only MAL is better for otaku becuase its easier to find people with similar interests.
If I ever did it would probably be something cliche like lacus clyne, i wear glasses too but I cant see fine without them if im not driving.
Ive never gone to a con alone before, I always used to go with my ex and his friends. They are the ones that introduced me to anime. But we broke up last year so I dont plan on going this year. I think it is worth it to go alone but it is much more fun to have someone with you. If you go you should go for more than one day and each time ive gone someone in the group gets a hotel room there. Its great to do that becuase sometimes you really need a break and they show events like the cosplay contest on the hotels tv station.
I really want to learn japanese. My school doesnt offer it and I would rather take it in a class with ofther people for the experience than with a program or online. Once I finally get around to graduating my present from my mom is gonna be a trip to Japan. I mean i know a lot of words and phrases but I could never put a sentece together and know nothing about kanji. I wonder if rossetta stone is any good, I might end up having so settle for something like that.
Do I bother you by asking you questions all the time? I mean I seem to write a lot of coments to you lol.
I listen to my ipod constantly, it always calms me down when Im upset or just want to relax. I have a playlist of anime OST music on there that is going on 90 tracks by now. My favorites change all the time but right now I cant stop listening to the last ending of toradora "Orange" and the second ending for kuroshitsuji "Lacrimosa". I have "style" on there too, its a good song. I have tons of stuff from macross frontier and gundam seed destiny.
By the way, I am totally loving nodame cantabile so far. I am gonna start raading the manga. The ending themes are great too, Ive been meaning to downlaod them. Watching that show makes me want to learn how to play an istrument. Its cool you actually can learn how to play some of those songs. I rode horses when I was younger, I didnt have the motivation to practive music.
Hey do you ever download songs from anime? Ive really been getting into that lately. I just can't stop listening to some of the songs.
About Toradora they part where Taiga and Ryuuji kiss is my favorite lol, but I do agree that it was a little too open ended. I would have liked to see what the futute held for everyone a little bit more concretely.
