I enjoyed this show, but I was never fully into it. Going outside the perspective of the US and the Connor family and all that is great to see of course, disconnecting completely from what we've seen in the films. Being in Japan where there aren't just gun stores everywhere makes for some slightly different kind of action than you usually get from Terminator and I like how they took advantage of that. Plus there's sort of a meta narrative going on about the endless cycle the franchise itself has been stuck in from the beginning and how it could finally break free. There's a
...
lot to like about Terminator Zero, but there still wasn't anything that truly grabbed my attention and had me sitting up in my chair. I was never fully invested in the characters even if there was an interesting underlying motivation somewhere in them. It's fine enough for what it is. Maybe Terminator just doesn't work in quite the same way for me in animation as it does in live-action. There's a feeling I get from Terminator that I can't quite get out of this show. The excitement of the stuntwork seen in moments like Arnold jumping onto a moving truck while shooting up another Terminator is a very specific appeal that you can't just transplant 1-to-1 I feel. Not to say it's bad by any means, I had a good time. I just wasn't in love with it.

I really loved this, a lot more than I expected. It's uplifting in many ways, but personally a little heartbreaking for reasons that are maybe a little too personal to share on a public forum. But this was really, really great. It's a little freaky to hear the exact same kind of catastrophising, overthinking, terrified thought process that I've had in social situations and just life in general since I was a teenager repeated in this show. And as much as that is a… I guess a downer way to live, to put it lightly, the show never lets that get in the way of
...
having fun. It's severe social anxiety packaged in a 12 episode shitpost and it's a blast to watch the whole way through. Seeing so much of myself in Bocchi makes all her little victories so much sweeter to witness. It's almost heartbreaking to finish the show cus I just wanna stay and make sure she continues to get better, maybe because I have similar hopes for myself. This ended up being a show that felt almost tailored for me personally and I'm very happy to know that there will be more. All of Bocchi's "episodes" or whatever you'd wanna call them are wonderfully unique in their animation and super funny, but the concerts are as well. Instead of being so over-the-top as those other moments it's just really nicely detailed with a lot of subtle personality touches put into the way each character performs. There's so many great characters and fun gags with a really strong beating heart, I loved the whole damn show.

I watched the first two episodes months ago and then didn't come back for whatever reason, but once I started it back up I finished the season in just a couple days. Once this show gets going it's hard to put it down, and when it all takes a turn mid-season I'm completely locked in. I had a great time! I love the care and detail put into the anatomy and function of all the different monsters, and the dungeon itself. Plus all the detailed recipes for cooking them up. It's a very traditional fantasy world, but with such a fun and unique angle on
...
it all. Though like most shows I love I come back for the characters who I all treasure dearly. Just wanna shrink Laios down and put him in my pocket. The main crew is a perfect unit and they had me smiling the whole show. It's kinda insane how well the show balances the humor with the serious bits, it pulls off the shift pretty much flawlessly. If I had any complaints I'd say that whenever we cut away from the main crew and focus on another group my interest lowers a tiny bit. I get why you'd wanna expand the cast and build on the world, and I see how those other storylines will start closing in on the main group but I just didn't find a lot of those other characters very interesting. It never lasts too long, but it's something I'm ready to get over with whenever we check up on some of the other lads. This is still amazing though, I'm super excited for next season!!

This doesn't reach the monumental action peaks of Broly, but I enjoy it almost just as much for completely different reasons. I love all the downtime spent with the cast giving them new quirks we haven't seen before like Piccolo holding his phone like a fuckin old man, and seeing more Pan is such a joy. I love that she's just a little Goku (though she actually goes to school) and seeing how Piccolo's training has changed from when he first trained Gohan is a nice sign of how much he himself has changed in that time.
This is basically the Piccolo and Gohan movie and
...
I'm so glad they took it in this direction. I love my man Goku, but Dragon Ball has a such a fun cast with so much untapped potential and I looove me some Piccolo so this is exactly the kinda thing I wanna see. I don't know if Gohan's role here is specifically made to respond to fan critiques or whatever, but it kinda feels like it and it's not perfect. Personally I think people get a little too hung up on Gohan not wanting to be a fighter and being more interested in his work and his family, but I do think some of the inconsistancy in his writing can get bothersome and that can be felt here. Gohan has other interests, but he's not an idiot and it feels a little out of character for him to just expect that bad shit won't happen again. His arc basically being about him understanding that he's still needed and he has to be ready for anything is very 'been there, done that'. Doesn't help that his big transformation is such an obvious retread (or homage if you're being nice). I understand the purpose of it, channeling Gohan's anger into a form unique to him. Super Saiyan 2 was that, but now everyone can do it so Beast is like a way for him to get that back. It just doesn't feel as significant in the moment as SSJ2 did and visually it's something you need some time to get used to cus that hair is more ridiculous than ever lol.
That's my one big issue I guess, but everything else about this I love. Gohan is still a very fun character in this, and so is Piccolo as the lead. I looove all the new Red Ribbon guys, I really want the Gammas to become a mainstay from here. Plus getting Charles Martinet for the english dub is so fun to listen to, I wish he'd get more non-Mario gigs cus he's such a genuine talent. And Pan! I love Pan, she's so cute! Whenever they decide to continue the manga or bring the anime back or whatever I need more of this characterization for her.
This animation style for Dragon Ball doesn't compare to the beautiful eye-candy that is DBS Broly and I hope any future movies go back to 2D, but that doesn't mean this is at all ugly-looking nonono. There was clearly a lot of work done to retain some of the 2D aesthetic in this and the animation and action choreography is consistantly great and nice to look at. It's not just 3D for the sake of it, they take advantage of the greater camera control to do things that wouldn't traditionally be as easy so I can appreciate that. I wouldn't be upset atleast if this was the look for the movies going forward.
This is cozy Dragon Ball for me. Even with all the big punch-ups this isn't nearly as dramatic as the last entry and there's a bit of a return to more fun slice-of-life stuff. This is very light on its feet and really nice to come back to. Was also nice to finally see Goten and Trunks not look like little 5 year olds despite being in their teens for years at this point. Maybe they could get a movie too…

THE best Dragon Ball movie. Just visually it's the best the series has ever looked with really textured line-work, great coloring and some wonderful new character designs from Naohiro Shintani. Still looks like Dragon Ball, but fresh and more refined and maybe a little simplified to make room for all the amazing animation in this. There's again a bit of 3D animation involved here in a couple sections and it is noticable, but not nearly as distracting or ugly as it was previously, maybe cus FighterZ was out at this point. Was that team involved in this? I'm not sure tbh.
This is again much
...
more action focused than Battle of Gods, but unlike Resurrection F this movie has a much stronger storyline at its base. Paragus and Broly were pretty nothing characters in the original Z movie, but this refresh turns them into something completely different and much more relatable and they're some of the best additions to modern Dragon Ball while still retaining some of their original elements. Frieza is also at his best here, he's such a little shit and it's so fun to watch.
I had more thoughts while I was watching the movie, but I got caught up in how cool Gogeta is and I forgot. He's so cool tho, this is what I wanted in Fusion Reborn. It was also pretty funny when Goku almost did a rasengan.

Watched the complete version.
The 2000s energy of Cloud Strife with a flip phone is off the charts. That's not even mentioning the music in this movie, holy hell. I don't know if you could call this "good", but I dug it. The first half is very weirdly paced and plays with time in ways that seem kinda unnecessary. The way they give out information is just kinda clunky, though scenes like the phone sinking into the waters is where this part of the movie really works. The characters aren't as fleshed out as in the game, I've seen that a lot of people feel Cloud
...
has regressed or is out of character in this and I can see why. But as a post-FF7 journey I really like this little arc for him. Even if Cloud regained his sanity by the end of the game I feel like there was still room left for him to have to learn to forgive himself for what happened with Aerith. So in that sense Advent Children worked for me. Scenes like the one I mentioned with the phone spoke to that journey for Cloud in a pretty real way that I really felt for.
Halfway through is when they really find their momentum though, which is mainly because that's when the rest of the movie becomes a big ol' action scene and it's admittedly a lot of fun to watch. The Turks are a highlight and the fight Rude and Reno have against two of the Sephiroth dudes is great stuff. That's also when the rest of the FF7 party members finally show up. I wish they were in more of it though, especially Barret. Steve Blum voicing Vincent was not how I expected him to sound, but it was perfect.
Does Advent Children exist mostly to have a fully CG animated Cloud vs Sephiroth fight? Probably. Does it rule? Oh hell yeah. Do they really milk Aerith's theme throughout the whole thing to get you emotional? Yes. Did it work on me? Every fucking time. Whenever she shows up I started tearing up it was insane. The movie's version of One-Winged Angel also absolutely rules. This movie is fun man, I can't help it. I might still be riding the high of just finishing the game, but I enjoyed this way more than I expected.

I mean, it's not good. The english voice acting is pretty bad, the story is the most paper thin thing you've ever seen. It barely registers as a coherent narrative, makes me wonder what context the OVA was made in. There's not much reason to watch this for anyone other than Sonic fans, I really don't know how else you'd get anything out of it. I'd say if you're a big Sonic fan it's worth a watch. It's really short and you get some pretty good Sonic animation goodness out of it, Metal Sonic is great and you get to see the origin of stuff
...
like Knuckles' cowboy hat. Metal's final scene was also referenced in a really great moment from the Scrapnik Island comic (which you should also totally read). And of course you get to witness that Iconic™️ line read from Martin Burke's Sonic. There's still value in revisiting this today, I had fun.

FRIEEEEZA FRIEEEEZA FRIEEEEZA FRIEZA
This is a different kind of movie from Battle of Gods, replacing the slice-of-life comedy with more of the action people might be expecting. And a lot of it is honestly solid, the choreography in the big Frieza Force group battle is super fun to watch. It's overall a decent watch, but it's lacking a lot of the best qualities of its predocessor. Resurrecting Frieza is used to great effect in the Tournament of Power, but here it's pretty underwhelming and more like a Namek saga speedrun than anything else as Frieza gets his ass handed to him. Super Saiyan Blue, as
...
cool as it looks, has one of the most unremarkable introductions for a transformation in Dragon Ball. It just doesn't mean anything. The 3D animation that BoG experimented with makes a return and it's even more noticable this time and just as shoddy as before, which just makes Super Saiyan Blue's introduction even more underwhelming.
Resurrection F isn't as terrible as I've seen people say it is, but it's a big step down from Battle of Gods. It also has one of the most criminal moments in all of Dragon Ball when Goku just steals that win. Vegeta always had way more beef with Frieza than Goku and yet even on the second go around he doesn't get the win! Cmon guys, just give him one.

This is still one of the best Dragon Ball films. Just by virtue of not being made mostly as promotion for the anime and just as an actual movie it's such a big step up from the old Z movies. The bigger runtime allows for a lot more fun slice-of-life stuff which is some of the best moments in the movie. The art style has kind of a sterile look I don't love for Dragon Ball, though it is much worse in Super. But the animation is still pretty great and the final battle is real good (even with some shoddy experimentation with 3D that
...
doesn't pay off lol). Great, super fun Dragon Ball goodness.
Also… just as a side-note for the series in general, not just this movie. You guys HAVE to drop the Trunks and Mai thing, it's DIRE. It's a fun gag at first, but it feels like they just started taking it seriously and it ONLY gets worse from here. STOP!!!

This ones cool! Loved having a bit of kaiju flavor, it makes Wrath of the Dragon stand just a little more. Fleshing it out to actual feature length could make for a pretty cool Super movie in the future if they ever felt like doing it. I also appreciate how this takes the opportunity to fill in a spot the manga/anime wasn't interested in touching on, something I don't think any of the other Z movies ever do as far as I'm aware. And it makes Trunks' sword just seem way cooler now. I don't think this would actually fit into Future Trunks' timeline of
...
events lol, but whatever!
It's a little annoying though when Goku is just like "hey I gotta take this guy on my own go away!" even though the movie hasn't been about him at all. It doesnt ruin the whole thing, but it makes the climax a little less satisfying.
