As good of an adaptation as can be done, but sadly shows more that Berserk can't be adapted. Without a bottomless budget and talented staff as well as years and years, even Golden Age can't be adapted too well. While I do believe the adaptation is good, the anime itself ends up lacking as it skips a lot of important details, most of which include the grittier portions of the manga such as various rape scenes and the entirety of Wyald's appearance. With only chapter 1 of Black Swordsman arc being animated, a lot of viewers may simply get bored as Black Swordsman somewhat sets

up an interesting setting that makes the Golden Age worth reading. That being said, what the anime does get right is that they adapt the emotional scenes quite well with a great soundtrack to back it up adding a mysterious, uneasy, yet somehow weirdly comforting aura to the events in question. On top of that they do an excellent job at adapting the Eclipse and encapsulating the horror and trauma of the climax of Golden Age. After that though, it ends rather abruptly since Skull Knight was left out of the adaptation as well, so his arrival to save Guts and Casca was not shown, and instead ends on a shot of Guts screaming in rage and sadness once he loses his eye while watching Griffith rape Casca. Overall I think it can be worth watching if you have already read the manga, but is definitely not a great representation of the series. Though while not a good representation, they did a great job with the adaptation all things considered.
