Two of the three stacks you may have already saw in the anime's main page is "Romance Anime Worth your Time" and "Anime for Non-Anime Watchers". This anime fits these categories perfectly. I can guarantee you that it IS WORTH YOUR TIME even though you aren't an anime fan.
This show is more about the sentiments and emotions rather than a good story writing. Don't expect a Pulitzer-award-worthy plot here, but this show never failed to deliver its excellent execution in storytelling. I'd argue that the story is neither about identity nor uniqueness; It's about a journey. A journey of a pianist named Arima Kousei. About how he overcome his trauma of music. How he pulled a "quit w" but comes back to it. And how he moves on with his life. It's not just Kousei's journey either, although I can't say much on that otherwise it'd be quite a spoiler.
The sentimentality is also reinforced by the use of Classical music (To be honest, without it the entire show would feels very cringey.). Especially since most of the classics that got featured in the show is from the Romantic Era, which is known for emphasizing in "personal emotional expression". The use of Tchaikovsky's "Sleeping Beauty waltz", played in Episode 18, and Chopin's Ballade Nr. 1 in the last episode, in particular, are good examples of how to utilize music, as a medium, to convey all the emotions and sentimentality to the viewers. And how to neatly execute it. As an occasional listener of classical music myself, I think this show will definitely change the perspectives of those who think that "meh classical music is boring".
I was originally going to rate this anime a 9/10. But after finishing it and going to the rating page, my mouse cursor moved on its own to the "10 (masterpiece)" rating so I guess it is what it is, a masterpiece. Provided that you don't get any MAJOR spoilers or you hate classical music to your bones, you'll enjoy it. As I said, this show is 100% worth your time.

This "second season" of Kantai collection started of with a very promising story. The atmosphere of the anime is more grim and serious than the last one. As it's supposedly taking place in "1944". Featuring Shigure as the main heroine. But after two or maybe three episodes everything went downhill due to inconsistencies of the plot. And one of the most bruh ending ever. To summarize, if you just want to watch cute shipfu doing cute things to kill time then go for it. I mean, Shigure is cute! Otherwise, don't watch it as the plot is questionable at best.

First off, the

consistency issues. The previous "season" stated that if a shipgirl is sunk, she'll be incorporated into an abyssal fleet. Otherwise she'd be taken to the "repair bath" to, well, repair and recover from the damage. But in this season we'll see Shigure who got damaged. But instead of spending time in le bath, have IV tubes attached to her and had been woke up in a field hospital. We'll also see two BB with funny pagoda tower got "removed from the naval list" aka. "retired from the navy and take the train home and go live a peaceful civilian life."
Then the plot itself. I think the reason you won't see Fubuki is that Fubuki, in real life, as in the real Imperial Japanese Navy, was sunk in 1942. You'll also notice some of the ships in the first season go missing since the story is taken place in 1944 (as shown in the first episode. Despite them winning what seems to be the battle of Midway in the last season, but whatever since the events in the first season does not resemble real history at all, at least at the start). The story is started as Shigure was assigned to the Southern Force and was sent to fight what is known as "Battle of Surigao Strait" in real life. In the first two episodes they're portrayed (or at least I perceived) to be resembling what actually happened in history (more on that later). After the battle, mostly CSFDCT (cute shipfu doing cute things) stuffs happened and Shigure was called to make a "last stand" against the abyssal fleet. They set sail from their base to do just that. As the battle got to the most desperate point, somehow, miraculously, THE COMBINED ANGLO - AMERICAN FLEET, WHOM OF WHICH WAS NEVER MENTION DURING THE FIRST 7 AND A HALF EPISODE, SHOW UP. At the end, shigure made her courageous last stand and sunk. The most WTF and cringeworthy ending ever in anime, no, in storywriting history.
Now about "AksHual HeeSTories". While the ending itself is cringe. What follows it the list of IJN ships with their KC shipfu picture, alongside their actual year of service. Along with some cringey patriotic song presumably made by the anime studio. And the "Thanks for your service" at the end. I personally sees no problem with honoring the loss of the sailors who fought on those ships to protect their country. BUT tying the real event with the fictional story about shipfus fighting to protect themselves against abyssal aggression can be POTENTIALLY misleading to the general audience, that their military action during the 30s-40s is just an attempt to protect their island from Foreign aggressor. While in reality they're THE aggressor disguised as "liberators" to the colonial Asian nations. Only to be as oppressive as, if not more than those nation's colonial master.
Shipfu anime franchises have a huge potential in my opinion. But so far both Azure Lane and Kantai Collection have falied harnessed that potential.

TL;DR As someone who had read the manga and the first volume of the LN, I'm disappointed with the anime adaptation. The adaptation itself is not that bad [b]EXCEPT THE ANIMATION ITSELF[/b](You should definitely watch it though if you want [b]diabetes.[/b]) Anyways, here is my review
Story: 9/10
It gives you diabetes. period. The anime is too rushed IMO and it kinda ruin the sweetness a wee bit. But again, it's an adaptation of 4 LNs in 12 episodes so some stuffs do get rushed.
Sounds: 8/10
The VAs are doing good job here. All the EDs are really good but the OP is too catchy. the background sound

Animation/art style: Garbage/10
It's LITERALLY GARBAGE period. Firstly, Mahiru looks a lot less cute in the anime compared to the LN/manga. And most of the scenes are just Amane_room.bmp made in MS Paint by a 10 y/o (It has no textures/shadow/etc at all) copied & pasted with no different camera angle at all. and 50% of that is Amane_kun_Sofa.png. The characters' movements, especially facial expression, is very off. I don't know how to put it exactly in words but it's so bad that it ruined all the things listed above.
Conclusion: It's kinda hard to hate the adaptation for me since I absolutely enjoy the story. but the animation quality is so bad I just can't recommended this to y'all. If you don't mind the animation and want a dose of diabetes that constantly reminds you that this sweet fantasy would not happened irl to you even if you want it, then I strongly urge you to give it a try.

7 chapters in and it already give me diabetes.
Yes, seriously.
First of all I haven't read the original light novel and as of writing this review there's only 7 chapters translated. I don't know what lies ahead but so far it seems to be a typical rom-com with very, very, very sweet story and not-so-intensive plot. The story started off as the synopsis stated. Amane and Mahiru ,who attended the same school, finding out that they lived next-door to each other after Amane lends an umbrella to Mahiru. After that incident, Mahiru proceeded to spoilt him rotten to the point that it gives me diabetes. just

as it's written in the title. It's very wholesome so far.
The art is just like the story. Not terrible but it doesn't stands out either. Except for Mahiru, who is very cute. To the point she single-handedly gives me glucagon overdose on top of the diabetes mention earlier and occasional heart attacks just because of her smile I just can't..............
Anyways, I absolutely recommend this to someone who wants to read something light-hearted and,or to cleanse themselves off of the pain and sorrow of this world.
