I understand this this series is very influential and important in anime history. Kudos.
I went into the series without knowing much at all about it, apart from its importance and the mecha stuff/deconstruction. For the first half of the series, I was pretty well entertained. The characters were okay, but mostly irritating or boring. But it was okay. And then it started to get weirdly psychological, abandoning it's initial plot drive, and by the last two episodes ended up as a huge dumpster fire. I'd say I've never been as disappointed in the way a series ended as I did here (well, maybe Shingeki).

Well, what can you say about Shingeki? It's difficult to find such an influential work with such a maligned and divisive ending (I'm looking at you, Neon Genesis Evangelion). The fanboys are vociferous, as are the haters. Both have valid points, some are ridiculous. I fall in between, but cannot discount that the majority of the series is brilliant.
The manga is better than the anime... a lot better, really... as is often the case. But the manga suffers from that same poor finish, as you'd expect. And having to revisit the topic about this ending really detracts from the legacy. Great characters and art, a great ...

Where could you could find an anime with a more perfectly explained, plotted and written story? With better characters and dialog? With better music, art, sound effects, and direction?
Where? Anywhere. This is a truly perfect anime. Perfectly horrible. I did enjoy the one girl's head being vaporized into a gushing blood fountain, though... so the art rating gets a few extra points. ...

The dubbed English version is vastly superior to the original Japanese version. Even if you don't like the over-the-top humor, it's far better than the terrible original. The only good thing that I can say about the original is that its awfulness allowed the English dub to come into existence.
The rating's I've given are for the English dub. Ratings for the Japanese original would have been abysmal. Pretty much every aspect of the series improved with the English dub. The stories, characters and enjoyment skyrocketed in interest and engagement a result. It's crazy, but it great fun. If you need a laugh, try an episode.

This anime is completely ridiculous. The story is engaging enough but isn't amazing. The characters are interesting but undeveloped. There are a lot of typical anime conventions at work here. And the food reactions are preposterous.
But I love it. The cooking parts are very interesting... wouldn't be much of a show without that. If you're interested, there's a lot of useful cooking knowledge on display. The females are what you'd expect. ECCHI overdrive. The characters are a bit underdeveloped, but distinctive and interesting. There are a lot of laughs. The school administration and activities are typical anime craziness. ...

I found the final season to be a let down. Overall, the entire series has been great... certainly a classic. That's universally accepted, and it's quite an achievement. Well deserved, bravo.
But I think that anyone giving this season a 10 is maybe engaging in nostalgia and being emotionally caught up in it being over (Well, except that it isn't over, which is also a point of contention). For me, a 7/10 is a good score for any anime series, but given the high quality of Shingeki seasons 1-3, Final Season was a bit of a step backwards.
