The main protagonist. Hands down I love MC's who are confident and not assholes. Wise and mature. This is what really can move a story along. No simps here. Just CHECKMATES!

BTOoOM! Has a very similar setting. Different plot but I can definitely see these girls having to deal with a lot of moral issues and meeting people with their own.

I believe they have a very similar feel to them. Warfare, tragedy, secrets being withheld by superiors, and the overall fight for love and peace.. there's great adventure to be had in each. The musical scores are fantastic, too. (You'll find yourself watching the OP and ED themes more often than not.) Not to mention, Alice (Pumpkin Scissors) resembles Mirepoc (Bantorra) so much it's laughable. Note: Women in power are sexy. :P

Fractale

After watching the first episode of Fractale, the first thing I thought of was X'amd Lost Memories/Nausicaa and how grand the story was to be. A kid enjoying everyday life suddenly taken out of that with the help of uncommon events. The music and art styles are very similar and give off a nice slice of life feel that's pretty relaxing.

There's something special about the way the two main characters grow with one another in both series that just makes you fall in love with them as a couple. So much character in each Anime's main cast too. The soundtracks are great and would be pretty entertaining to see them swapped with each other. If you want a good adventure, both of these shows are especially perfect for the craving. <3 I found both Spice and Wolf and Katanagatari left me with the same feeling of depression after I finished them too. haha

Both Ohnogi, Hiroshi (Script) and Akane, Kazuki (Director) worked on these series. The stories are epic and have a futuristic feel to them. More Tetsuwan than Noein, though. You'll notice that the same animation style was used in both of these series' fight scenes from time to time as well. Escaflowne is also another done by those two.
