This anime is something else. I am not typically into the "nerd escape fantasies" like this definitely falls under, but it does it incredibly well. What makes it weird is how it almost feels like it's making fun of itself, all the tropes it does for escape fantasies just makes it feel like there's no way it's taking itself seriously and is definitely self aware.
The character constantly wins, at everything, is super popular, has a lot of chicks that wants to bang him, etc. You don't roll your eyes though, it's just part of the ride, and you laugh as it goes on because
...
of course things work out for him.
It has moments that's cringe, but it's done in a way where you sorta wanna see what happens next because of it. The characters in the universe are constantly giving the main character reasons to come out on top and his obstacles or "demons" he has are so insignificant to how great he is doing but he doesn't see it that way.
So you have here a male mary-su, a marty-stu, with a generic story and everything... but it keeps your focus and you enjoy it. Without spoiling anything, let's just say it's a journey even though on paper it doesn't seem like much is happening. This is not by any means an anime you watch for an epic story or plot, it's designed in a way where you can view it as a joke or take it seriously and still enjoy it and it's very well done.

One of the first things I've noticed is the similarities of One Punch Man, which may have been inevitable considering who is involved. The characters sometimes look the same to One Punch Man, especially the two main characters from each anime (seriously, aside from height difference and some hair, they're the same). However, it might be a coincidence since, you know, how many unique characters can you make in anime?
The setting is also fairly similar, just some alterations, where instead of the "sensei" being the oblivious one trying to satisfy a more serious character trying to learn as much as possible, it's a
...
serious character that exploits a gullible oblivious individual that's trying to learn as much as possible. This is, however, where the similarities end and so nobody should feel upset by this.
The humor is just like One Punch Man in many ways, it's enjoyable and has moments you'll remember for some time. The story isn't so insanely good that you will be at the edge of your seat wondering what happens next, but it's good in the sense you enjoy every minute of it as it rolls out.
It's not an anime that's particularly special for any reason, but it is something I think most people would be happy with it.

There's a lot of politics that filthy casuals like myself are not involved with, so it's why my score might not be as consistent as others. I have no clue how accurate it serves the original, but it is good for its own purpose as an individual show.
While there's definitely a difference from this and season 1, it's not a bad change. There is a lot of moments that's well done, such as how it portrays other characters and their perspectives of the main character and others around them. The show this season, in fact, focuses so much on other characters that you don't even
...
see a whole lot of the original two characters like you did in season 01 sometimes. What it also does differently, without spoiling details, is that they do a good job telling the perspective of one of the villains.
It isn't a hilarious show, but it's amusing. The action has some moments that feel epic, but most aren't. It's not particularly consistent at being amazing at anything, it however does deliver great moments and I think anyone reasonable will be happy with this as long they don't expect something and aren't open to anything different.

I do not understand why I had this, I just watched it because I didn't know what else to watch and it was short. It was a pleasant surprise from past me and I'm grateful.
It's an anime that greatly references various horror elements, such as ghosts, but uses real world terms and religious practices throughout the show with fairly great accuracy. If you're one of those people that loves the subject, this is an excellent choice for an anime.
One of its greatest drawbacks, however, is it's very episodic meaning you're not getting an epic of a story-line, just mild character development with some "drama"
...
here in there that didn't have to happen but you forgive it since the two main characters have a weird chemistry. Because the drama didn't have to happen but does (poor communication that didn't need to happen), you sometimes find yourself rolling your eyes.
Each "investigation" consists of about three episodes approximately that have them investigate/study, attempt to explore now stakes increase, then they solve it. It's a consistent format that doesn't get stale since they have a lot to explore and experiment with. However, characters feel unrealistic making mistakes that don't seem human (you HOW many times had problems because you were alone??? Why are you alone AGAIN???). There is some body counts that felt avoidable, they tried to explain and justify it but it felt backwards how they came to some of their conclusions ("they must stay even though their life is in danger because it might be poltergeist and stuff").
Overall, the anime seemed unique and refreshing, and it's better than a lot of paranormal shows even outside of anime. I do recommend it for those that like paranormal stuff, just don't expect it to be scary or something.

For those of you that enjoy WWII, alternate history, and maybe some military action, this is a decent anime. The biggest drawback is the fact it was never finished, they just dropped it on a cliff hanger, forcing you to read the manga.
It's an anime about individuals from the Japanese navy that, for unknown reasons, randomly went back in time during the WWII era. Upon trying to be neutral to avoid changing history, the inevitable happens that escalates to them getting in battle. They rescue a man who was very cooperative and kind, but it was decided to allow him to read history books
...
that essentially predict the future. Upon doing so, he was inspired to create a new future, a new Japan, which the rest of the crew had mixed feelings about. The rest of the show's drama revolves around that and it's incredibly interesting for it.
It's a shame too, because it was really good, but it ends on a nasty cliff hanger that will never be satisfied without research.

One of the biggest problems I have with this anime is how it brings nothing special to the table. Everything is generic, cliche, has been done before. The generic story of a boy that meets an older role model and grows up to be just like him, or the "they're so alike and that's why they'll grow up close but they'll never tell each other that."
The anime is about a boy, homeless, and eventually a mysterious individual asks him to follow. This mysterious individual was clearly not human and thus suddenly it's okay to follow the individual which lead him to a new world
...
full of "beasts" which consists of what may come off as furry fandom stuff to some. The boy stays here since he has a home in spite not getting along with the individual that insists he acknowledges he is his master.
The new world gives the boy shit because humans are not exactly welcome in this world... in spite hinting very early on there is another human in this world that seems quite popular. The beasts bully the main character and the main character doesn't like that. The other human breaks up the fight, this feminine looking girl that seems to have good intentions kinda.
Eventually, the boy becomes interested in being a strong sword fighter, because why not. This helps the role model character who is a good sword fighter get better as well allowing him to eventually beat his rival in battle. This upsets the other human because he, which surprised me and my friend he was indeed a he this whole time, considers the beast his father and it's not okay his father ever loses a battle because that's weak and stuff. He attempts to kill the main character's role model and that upsets the main character, so they get in a battle.
Eventually, the main character wins the battle... the end.
This is pretty much the movie. Some unimportant stuff was left out, like the part he finds his real father who claims was looking for him all this time in spite never once going to the police (he even says that! What!?). He also meets a love interest, because we gotta have that even if it adds nothing to the story other than inconvenience to the main character when he fights (she barely new the guy and suddenly she is willing to die with him!?).
It's worth a watch I guess, but damn I feel there is a lot better stuff to watch instead.

This is an enjoyable anime for sure. It makes fun of cliches from super hero and animes alike by having the main protagonist as the most powerful super hero also be the most anti-dramatic character in spite every other character being so hyped.
The characters in the anime are all very unique, most are very interesting. The main character would actually be among the least interesting as far as story goes, which is just one of the jokes the anime has going for it. His character is just a super hero for fun, but he has the tragic tale of being bored with his power
...
and wanting more. That would be the gist of it without spoiling anything else.
As he continues to his path of being a super hero, the show makes some of the same jokes over and over again. They do not get super stale to where it's a huge problem, but it is a noticeable weakness that will likely not work for a second season. Some of the characters are also ridiculous, which might be intentional but some of them has a role for such a long period of time that I feel it's bad design to make their existence as a joke and then have them have a serious enough role to where you need to see them frequently, it's just a joke that only hurts the character that isn't funny at that point.
Without revealing too much, One Punch Man is not a good story based anime. It has a story that's just above mediocre. It's story is interesting because of the character, not because of the story. The anime is more of a comedy than anything and should be taken as so, but with some of the core jokes being recycled, the anime is more amusing and enjoyable rather than a hilarious and exciting experience.
It's a good anime that I both enjoyed and recommend, it's just not a masterpiece.

If Troma Films, the film creators known for sex exploitation, were to create an anime, this would be the anime.
The story is dreadfully boring, garbage even, but it picks up very late. In fact, more than half way through is when it gets good. Before then, you ask yourself why you're even bothering to watch the anime.
It tries to force "messed up stuff" as an excuse for how "dark" or "deep" the series is, but it's incredibly forced. It references messed up stuff in a way that feels a bit forced, it feels like a collection of dark subjects that were added more
...
to make the story feel edgy and dark, not because they actually contributed a whole lot to the story.
There is a lot of nudity in the anime, a lot stuff that feels out of place. From random nudity and breast grabbing to random discussions about stuff that adds nothing but blood to my cock and definitely nothing to the story. Perversion as a joke is fine, but when it's consistent and feels forced, it starts to be too much and demeans its own quality and the viewers trying to watch it.
When you do get pass its so many flaws, from the perversion to the mediocre characters with the mediocre plot, you will eventually get to a point where the story shifts full gears to being absolutely interesting. The story picks up, a lot more is on the table, characters that had no value suddenly have character development and suddenly you care about them and the things happening are engaging. The anime is actually good in the last few episodes.
It's a shame that nearly 75% of the anime is mediocre, it had a good concept going. With the poor character development, a somewhat boring story, and the constant perversion that takes what feels like the prioritized theme, I feel majority of people that gave this a super low rating did not finish it because it's so hard to want to invest your time watching it.
For anyone else like myself that finishes watching it, it still wont by any mean get praises. At the end of the day, it's story is kinda cliche as far as the technical parts go. The cliches are dreadfully consistent and nothing strongly compensates for them.
I would never recommend this anime to anyone that hasn't watched any of the other more higher quality animes. For anyone that feels like they have seen it all, maybe give this a try just to get it over with. You're investing several hours for a couple of enjoyable thirty minutes.

This is an older one here that did not age the best. The story is not very special either, unfortunately.
The gist of it is this, there is a character that totally sucks at playing army guy but eventually shifts to being an overwhelming badass while the badass chick eventually becomes the damsel of distress and always has to be carried. It's a cliche about love and women being useless the moment a guy is in the spotlight.
I am not by any means overly liberal, but I am somewhat salty because you went from having an interesting character that also happens to be female
...
to now a character that feels like she is slowly getting more and more mediocre and hopeless. She still has her moments, but it felt too inconsistent. Perhaps I am exaggerating, but that was my overall impression. She went from always being the lead badass to being that one character that can keep up good enough to be in the same scene as the more important character, but she isn't consistent enough to be considered the badass she was once portrayed as. It was too bad that happened to her character.
As far as the atmosphere and story, it's also decent, I enjoyed it. It's like Starship Troopers or something, kinda. The plot is interesting enough to gain your attention, the "plot twists" and the "super shocker surprise" at the end were mediocre or okay, not amazing but not bad.
I would not consider this worth watching with the huge library of good animes out there, but maybe for those that has seen so many, you could give this a shot if you're looking for just something to watch. It's good enough that you'll try to finish it.

This review contains mild spoilers, but I do not think they are specific enough to particularly ruin anything. You've been warned.
The first half is good. It exploits nostalgia Runscapers or WoW players might have, or maybe other RPG gamers. It was enjoyable, it had a great setup, the plot was promising. Then, they half assed it, were shocked by the popularity, then added what seemed like a forced second story that was so different you'd swear it's a second season or a new show all together.
The first half has a story where a game developer creates a virtual reality game that feels super real
...
and stuff. Then the bad guy goes crazy and forces everyone to play the game forever so he can feel like a god or something unimportant. The rule is simple, players need to make it to X destination in the game or else they will remain in the game until then.
This situation caused the game to reference many moments in gaming you would probably remember as a gamer, so it's quite satisfying. Players start looting other players, other players start huge clans to dominate the game with the best to try and clear floors and dungeons and stuff, it was cool.
Just as it was getting interesting, it was cut short by the final boss giving everyone an early taste of his awesomeness that the lead character totally fairly beaten. This cuts the situation short and the good part of the show is pretty much done.
There is then a complete change in scenery, obviously, since they are done with that game. This shift is to a completely new game with a new atmosphere and stuff. It isn't a positive transition. The storyline changed to a cliche, which is fine as long everything else carries or compensates for it (but it doesn't). The game atmosphere is unrelatable to gamers since there really is no game like it and the concept is stupid. So the charm that made it enjoyable is gone and now it's a mediocre anime you're just trying to finish because you're invested rather than enjoying yourself.
I do not think it's worth a watch for those looking for a well story driven experience. I do not regret watching it, but that is because I have no clue what I substituted in its place.
