Man, there was so much potential here. The premise of a demon lord awakening in a new era, and having to adapt is good. Then the streamer angle adds a comedic element akin to "The Devil is a Part Timer". The thing is, the character just don't act realistic a lot of the time, and it gets a lot worse in the second arc. It also takes situations that are really serious way too lightly, and also throws in random fanservice just to remind you you're watching something not meant to be that great.
The thing that stood out to me the most was the underreaction
...
to serious situations. They find out about a conspiracy that burns immortals souls to power the city. This sounds like a fate worse than death, and when a character is kidnapped who the protagonist says they "love" they really take their time trying to rescue them. They have some comedic arguments, and somehow show up at the last possible second. It's like they don't want me to take this show seriously.
Just because the show has a comedic tone doesn't mean it needs to mess up the serious scenes. It gets worse in the second arc. The new character focus is a girl that always gets picked on, but also everyone around her is killed by other people after her. They use her for a lot of fanservice. Back to characters acting dumb, the demon lord break the magical crystal meant to test strength, and somehow this doesn't tip off the class bully that he might be strong.
They of course also go to a maid cafe, and for some reason the high schooler is really into that stuff, and requests the girl "with the biggest boobs". I mean, it's just too many tropes, embarrassing scenes, characters being dumb, and underracting to situations. It had a cool premise, and I at least finished it, but I don't really recommend it unless all the stuff I mentioned isn't important to you.

I was one of the haters of season 1, although I had a bit of change of heart on re-watch. Even I was glued to my screen during this show though. The issues I had with the plot in season 1 were mostly at the setup. Everything is setup now, and it's time to have fun.
The main character starts out very overpowered this time, and only gets stronger. Every plot point is just an excuse to make the main character look cool and impress people. That's not a bad thing though, since he pulls it off. The animation is great, and even a lot of
...
the side character are very cool. I really enjoyed the ride.
I'm not going to go into too much detail here since I don't have too many bad things to say. I could say the story wasn't that interesting, or it was generic, but I didn't feel like I needed any more than is gave me. I don't go out to dinner, and rate the food badly since it didn't tell me a good story. This show gave me enough enjoyment from the spectacle and coolness.
I for sure recommend this, and look forward to what's in store next.

This show had a rough start for me. Small things that don't feel right an really ruin shows for me, and right from the beginning this show established it was gonna be one of those shows. I actually started taking notes, since there was so much to remember. I have to admit something though. I watched this twice. I watched it when it originally aired, gave it a 6, and moved on. This is before I started reviewing things, but I remember I was just too bothered by all the lazy plot points, and unearned scenes. With all the hype for season 2, I decided
...
to re-watch it, then go to season 2. Well, I felt a little different the second time around.
I'm gonna go into spoilers, but mostly just from the start. Skipp this paragraph if you don't want to hear rambling about all the plot points I didn't like. Right at the beginning, they have a vote for who wants to go further than the agreed upon part of the dungeon, which everyone agrees is a risk to their lives. Somehow just having a almost 50/50 vote leaning toward going forward means everyone has to go forward. Like, I'm not sure where that makes sense. In that kind of situation, it's an all or nothing deal. They didn't underplay the risking of life, they were clear before the vote. Half the people have to risk their life, because the other half feel like it? What the hell? Anyway, after they enter the life threatening situation, somehow the main character is the only one with reading comprehension. This happens later too, but lots of obvious things happen where the main character is the only one who notices, and somehow seems smart to everyone else. At the end of this endeavor, he gets attacked repeatedly by giant statued that one shotted everyone else they attacked so far. He must have been struck like eleven times. They emphasize how these are all really painful, but none kill him somehow, and he just barely survives until a timer runs out. Like, it's just super convenient/lazy writing. During a lot of fights it seems like the main character has some obvious plot armor too. He's also super skilled really quickly, but maybe that's a side effect of leveling up. One last thing I want to mention is him running away from giant centipedes for 4 hours. Like, running for your life full speed for 4 hours? I know he's suppose to be a hunter or something, but I have troble believing that. Some may argue the cenetpedes on purpose never went for the kill, but I have doubts.
Anyway, that's all the stuff I had issues with, mostly with the beinning of the show. Maybe on the second watch, since I knew what to expect, it didn't sour the rest of the show. Once the main character becomes super powerful, that's where the fun begins. Everyone loves a power fantasy, and that's what this show excels at. I had fun with him getting into different situations and impressing everyone.
So basically if you can get past the rough start, or people acting in ways that don't make sense doesn't bother you that much, I for sure recommend this show. It's a great power fantasy.

This was a nice experience. This animation style is unique and really gives it a cinematic feel. The characters felt believable, and endearing. Overall, the went in the direction I thought it would, but it still added some twists that I didn't expect. I'm not trying to write a full summary of the less than an hour long movie.
I suppose I would have enjoyed it more if it felt like it had more of a message, or had a more fleshed out plot. It feels more like an art piece than a movie with a story. It's an enjoyable art piece though. there was no
...
point during the movie I was bored, but I did wish at some points the plot would expand/go in a new direction.
Overall I recommend for sure. It's not that long, so might as wlel give it a shot!

Not really sure how to review this. I generally only review shows I finish, and although I did finish this one, it was due to extenuating circumstances. I would have probably dropped it episode 1 or 2. As much as I want to avoid spoilers, I will need to address some top level stuff to properly address my issues with this show.
First of all, the characters. I found the main character really annoying. No offense to the voice actor, as they are just playing a role, but the voice was one of the main things. This would be enough on it's own to ruin the
...
show for me, since they are the main character, but the other characters didn't help either. This show follows the common trope of having everyone but important character look very bland and boring, so you can see right away who is important, even before they speak. They really wanted to have some stand out designs too. They have one girl wear a cat ear hat, another guy just wears a mask all the time for no reason. None of the characters felt super interesting though, except maybe one of the characters introduced later(echo). You have tropey stuff like a rebellious teenager and twins always holding hands.
Well, what about the story? It's kinda all over the place. At first it seems like a time travel story meant to teach to protagonist about old game development and have her appreciate what she has. I think it dopes end up being that, but they take a long and very convoluted way around. You gotta suspend your disbelief a lot to follow these plot points. I just gotta address it, even though it's a big spoiler. She helps them make a game in the past using ideas/art from the future. The game is so good, it somehow makes all game developers move to America? Then that ruins the game industry since the anime girls are more manly now? Then there's the whole AI is bad subplot, but the way AI is implemented makes no sense. Also aliens I think? I admit, I was interested in what leap in logic they would take next. Somehow this is fixed by creating a slightly better game to release after the other game that was too good, so somehow prove better games can be made. It's just too silly.
Anyway, mostly just keeping track of my thoughts for the future. I didn't even get into the whole thing about having a whole studio of cute anime girls work on pervy games for some reason. Well, I think we know the reason. If there was any doubt, just have a gander at the ED. You can see the priorities for this show. As you can tell, I do not recommend this show.

While it has its moments, it often uses common tropes and plot points we've all seen in really safe and predictable ways.
The main character is a bit generic, and the characters fall into usual tropes. Honestly, I usually have a lot to say about stuff, but for this one it's fun enough, but I can't really think of too much it excels, or fails at. Other than generic premises, and playing it safe, the show is entertaining if you like a feel good romance story with nice character designs.
I woke say the site kinda peaks around ep 12. The rest was entertaining enough for me
...
to finish it. It's just, a lot of plot points seem to come out of nowhere, and rushed since they need to get that arc done.
Overall I do recommend it if you want a chill romance and like the character designs.

I decided on a whim to rewatch this series after watching it back in the day and scoring it a '7'. I didn't watch, or at least get far in the second season. I didn't remember anything really, so it's kinda like I was going in fresh. During the first few episodes, I wondered why I had scored it only a '7'. The show has quite a strong start, and I'm not sure if I just got worn out, or if the quality declined, but it just couldn't keep my interest toward the end.
This show is very clearly about depression, but also covers other things
...
like loneliness, dealing with loss, social norms, etc. It feels real in how the character acts. Now, I really hate people using depression as an excuse to not do anything, or waste their time, but the protagonist doesn't do that. He has all these feelings, but he still tries to be a stand up guy. He tries to do what he needs to do, and even goes to high school to try to not run away from his fears. Although we're meant to understand him, I'm not sure if we're meant to feel sorry for him. Throughout the series we can see him grow, and break out of his shell a bit.
There was another review I read that argued that he has no reason to be depressed. He has many people who love him, he excels in his career, and seems to be making good enough money. I think they miss the point of the show. It doesn't matter what you have, you can feel like you're wasting your life, and feel empty. Some of the most successful people end up doing drugs, or committing suicide due to not finding fulfilment in life. You don't have to be some poor homeless person on the street to feel depressed.
Anyway, the show has a strong start, but toward the end it just kinda was dragging a bit for me. Maybe the sort of pretentious dialogue, or the content stream of emotional speak was wearing me down. Maybe it just spent too much time on the parts I didn't care as much about, like the shogi tournament. I know shogi is used as a base to create situations and explain the protagonist feelings, but the actually strategy and matches don't interest me. I'm more interested in how the character will grow, and the relationships they form.
Overall, I did enjoy it, with a lot of the show being an '8' for me, and some toward the end being a '6', averaging out at a '7'. I'm going to go watch the second season now, and hopefully I'll finish it and leave a review for that one too.

I'll be reviewing the series up to this point, since I just rewatched from season 1 and never left reviews for those. Re:Zero has many flaws, which I'll go over in this review. Despite all of those though, it is able to consistently create strong emotional moments, and engaging fights that stand out among anime.
Let's start with the bad. I know people complain about Subaru, and how he's dumb, annoying, or other things. He is for sure annoying. The over the top poses and speech is portrayed to be endearing and quirky, but it's kinda cringe. The other characters always just laugh, but that's just
...
a taste thing I guess. I don't think that's as big a deal as just no one ever asking Subaru anything about himself. He just appears in this world not knowing anything, and people just freely explain, don't ask where he's from, what he's doing there, etc. He never tells anyone he's from another world, even when presented with stuff he recognizes from Japan. It just seems like a huge oversight of the author to not address it at all. They could have added a scene where he tries to tell, and is stopped in a similar way to his other ability, but that still wouldn't explain no one ever asking him about it.
The other thing is the character designs/fanservice. Overall, it's not super egregious, but there's a lot of specific character that are kinda just embarrassing. The first villain is basically wearing no shirt with her chest out. Doesn't make any sense to wear something like that for battle. A later character is portrayed as a young girl with just a large shirt on. They may sure to just barely have the shirt cover her, but also move it around a bit to make sure you know she isn't wearing anything under it. Like why do we need this? Another character is wearing pants so tight, they might as well no be wearing any. Like, these are supposed to be strong scenes, and you have characters dressed like this.
Anyway, You may have already seen the score I gave this and wondered how I gave it an 8 with all those complaints. Here's the thing, despite the complaints above, the show has a lot of really strong scenes. Maybe I'm just fooled by the nice animation and soundtrack, but this show could trigger an emotional response in me multiple times. On top of that, I always wanted to keep watching to see what was next. The complaints above keep the show from reaching higher scores, but it's still a very good show. I'm a bit upset season 3 felt like a part 1, and we may have to wait quite a bit for season 4. I'll for sure be watching it though.

Well, this season was continuing well along from the last season, developing characters and the plot in an entertaining way. It really just went completely random and corny toward the end though.
I'm gonna go over a few this from the season that just didn't sit right with me. This is mostly just gonna be me rambling so I remember what I thought later. It started going down when the culprit was revealed. Somehow her power seemed overwhelming, but I didn't get like it was earned or the other characters were doing their best. Like, are they really that weak? The most we got was one
...
guy turning into a bear. Even the cats, which were supposed to be pretty powerful, just rolled over and gave in.
The next is Morgan, who shows up at random and plays a big part on the final episodes. They originally seemed interesting enough, but the plot relies on her a lot and she kind of just shows up. It's convenient, and a lot of convenient stuff happens in this last part. The backstory was alright, but it kept revealing thing after thing that didn't seem hinted at at all. Like everyone's memory got altered, they have secret abilities they didn't know about, and even abilities they knew, but just decided to use now.
One big thing that made me feel it was just random and not thought it was the sacrifice plot. When the culprit gets home, she is on the verge of death. She's actually pretty much going to die and minuite, but Chose somehow entered her memories(with everyone else) and puts her back together. It's kinda cheesy, but not too bad I guess. It's just, after that she goes to the basement, and then it's revealed she was going to be sacrificed. She would have been dead already if not for Chise, and they didn't even come get her, she kinda just stumbled there.
After that the gang comes in, but they don't save her right away. They need her to ask them first. They really take that time too, despite it already being "too late". So much cheesy power of friendship so m stuff ensues, surprise guests, close calls, etc from here on.
It's just kinda silly. I like the world, characters, and fantastical nature of the show, but this plot at the end was disappointing. I'll still tune in though if there's another season.

Maybe it's just because it had a strong second half, but I really enjoyed this season. Unlike the first season, it's a bit more streamlined in terms of keeping to plot in one place. In the first season, you had a lot of short stories that grew the characters, but didn't always relate strongly. In this one, it focuses on the collage and the students, with all the plots weaving together nicely.
I know some complained about focuing too much on the side characters, but I felt they were all done well. I liked how they all had a fleshed out story/background with relatable issues. I
...
also like how the students interact with each other in different ways, and they all feel unique and fleshed out.
The story this time is more interesting as well in my opinion. Maybe it was due to re-watching the first season that removed some of the suspense from it, but I felt more compelled to watch the next episode to see what happened next here. I'm looking forward to now watching the second part, so hopefully it doesn't disappoint!
