In Noragami, there are 2 worlds; near shore and far shore. All the living beings live in near shore whereas all the evil spirits/phantoms (ayakashi) belong to far shore(after death). The ayakashis try to ruin the world, which is why The Gods of War : Yato and Bishamon along with their regilias fight to end them. its quite similar i.e. In blue exorcist, there are 2 worlds; human world and demon world. Demons ought to conquer human world, which is why the group of exorcists exorcise to end them.
