Hello! This is my first review. The anime I will review is Shiki.

This anime has large cast and take place in an isolated village. Some vampires come to the village and turn the villager into vampire, would all villager turned to vampire, or not?. That’s the premise, not the most original story of course.

As I said earlier, this show has large cast. From teen villager that wants to leave the village to a man from city who despise non scientific thinking to crazy grandma who claim herself as psychic and many more. This many characters gives the feels to the village dynamic, but of course ... not all the character developed properly, even some character feels like have no roles except annoy you. Oh, and I think this show has no main character. Maybe the doctor, or the city boy? Whatever, but this show is more about what happen to the village, not what happen to a person.

One of the plus poin in this show is that this show try to portrait the antagonist group, that is, the vampires not as blood sucker that loves to kill human, but as a living being that wants to survive, they have reason to kill. If you have watched Tokyo Ghoul you would know what it is.

The visual quality is good, not great, but not bad. The character design annoy me, until I get used to it. Some characters have eyes that look like a void of darkness. I mean they look like they don’t have eyes! It’s creepy, it almost put me off at first but as I get used to it, it turned to give more horror feels. Another design that annoy me is the hair. Male characters that have a lot of screen time usually have bed hair style, it’s okay, they look cool enough. But some characters have ridiculous hair style that look too stiff, and there’s this certain character that has hair that looks like a zig zag mountain road. As I get more used to the show, I just dismissed this thing as another weird thing in anime.

Overall I enjoy Shiki for the well execution and diverse characters. I give minus for the hairs though.
