What drew me in as I began exploring my interest in anime was the breathtakingly beautiful art styles it showcases, but what kept me hooked were the equally breathtaking stories and being able to share those with my friends and family.
Most of my fondest memories associated with anime are of a friend or my uncle and I binging an anime that they wanted to show me from start to finish, and of chilling in my room by myself, curled up in bed, enjoying my own company and the pitter-patter of rain on my roof as I power through as much of my watchlist as I have time for, sometimes more than I have time for lol.
I love sharing my opinion in a way that others can find useful and so I'll be writing reviews for the anime I complete or drop. Length will vary, but all will be graded in accordance with the same standard categories in order to keep it as objective and therefore as helpful as possible. As I refine my process with practice, my review grading will be based on the following:
Story & Plot
A good story is essential. It has the power to hold the audience captive as they sit on the edge of their seats as if they themselves are experiencing the story with the characters. Without a good story, the audience will lose interest quickly and the anime will likely tank, but even a good story can tank if the plot isn't well-executed.
Characters
A good story has to have good, well-rounded characters and they have to be both interesting and realistic in terms of their personality and how the world around them has shaped and changed them, - or hasn't. It's also important, if they must, to utilize character cliches carefully and properly.
Art & Animation
While a really good story can make up for poor animation, animation is still an important part of enhancing the viewer's experience and one of my personal favorite aspects of the genre.
Sound & Music
I've seen many-a-dub that completely ruined my experience with the anime because the voiceovers were so bad and cheesy that I couldn't continue watching. There's also the quality and accuracy of the sound effects and how they make sense with the character's environment. Another important part of this section is the music. Music is such a powerful tool and when used properly, can evoke the deepest emotions in the audience and provide an iconic sound that people will always associate with that specific anime.
Thanks for reading! This is more for me than you, but I'm glad it was interesting enough to finish ^-^
