This is gonna be a hard one.
On its own, without thinking of the manga or OAV(Hellsing Ultimate), this is a great anime. It was in fact this anime which pulled me into the Hellsing fandom.
It's got a fairly good plot, it's got action packed into every episode, great music - I mean really great, with sprinkles of humour for good measure. It's very much an addictive 'edge of your seat 'till the end' kinda anime. Really does get your blood pumping, which I think is to do with spirit all the characters have when fighting for the Hellsing cause.
However, bring the manga it was based
...
upon into the picture and the anime falls short. But to be fair the manga is amazing, the plot is much much much better, the action is even more crammed in and it's just well, more kick arse.
So what do I rate this with? It's a must watch anime, I think every anime fan should see it because yes it is THAT good. It could have been better, the OAV may see to that, but on its own it's still THAT good. Once you've watched it and you're craving more read the manga and then bask in the OAV 'cos this is one heck of a story, most definitely took my breath and heart away.

This was a nice little manga, the characters were well designed and there was just the right amount of humour. The bonus stories in the first volume were a nice add on too.
There wasn't too much of a plot though, it was more seeing how the relationship progressed rather than there being an end point to it all. Would have been nice to see more of how Kyogo's confession affected the friendship.
The let down for me in this was it was a little too non-consensual for me. It didn't really need to be and bordered on rape even in the short stories. I'm not
...
new to stories with non-con in them it's just this seemed a little fixated and unnecessary. I must say my yaoi fangirl liked it and just shrugged it off.
But overall I'd say it's a good manga. I particularly like the work that went into the characters, especially Kyogo, you can tell that each character has his own story waiting to be told. If you're a yaoi fan who doesn't mind non-con then give it a read if you can get a hold of it.

I thought I’d like this manga, it’s by an ex-CLAMP member, has pretty artwork and the plot sounded, well sound. But I didn’t.
The artwork was nice; the fold outs at the front were a nice touch. It was very much early CLAMP style and reminded me of RG-VEDA which may have got my hopes up.
The plot however really ruined it for me; everything else was there but the plot wasn’t. The story was disjointed, jumbled and overall badly told. Several times even after looking back through pages I would still be saying ‘huh’.
The most annoying thing was that it had the potential to
...
be really good, but it was just told in a confusing and disjointed manner.
All in all I’m not even sure what to make of it. I guess it was a nice little read but could have been so much better, with hardly conceived characters that didn’t grow. To put it simply it was pretty but a big let down.

Firstly I’d like to make the point that I watched the recap feature on the DVD and thus that may have influenced my opinions. However it made very little, if any, sense to me, so I don’t think it would have had an impact.
I was nicely surprised by this anime. Final Fantasy is a fandom I always heard about and always thought I should watch but never had the reasoning or felt the want to. I wasn’t expecting much from this film so what I got was a pleasant surprise.
The graphics on this were lovely, having watched it after watching Appleseed (2004) I’m not sure
...
which is better but both rock. The thing that threw me most was the body language, there was a lot of it and I really liked it.
The characters themselves could have been more developed but I understand that they have several films of back story and in a movie based on the games you are expected to a certain point to know that back story. They worked well as they were for me without the back story, I could figure things out and piece them together.
The plot ran a little thin and was hard to understand without the aid of a Final Fantasy otaku like jazzymegster by your side. But it was pretty; there were kick arse fights and good music which is always good in anime.
Downsides for me? And this will show you all how shallow I am. There was no character I fell in love with, none that made me shout ‘oh mamma I want a piece of him/her!’ Tifa was interesting, the red haired dude looked cool but that was about it.
It has sparked my interest in the Final Fantasy universe, so if anyone knows of a way for me to find out more without having to play the games give me a bell.
Overall good anime, worth the watch and worth recommending to even Final Fantasy newbies.

Ok to start out with I wasn’t all that convinced. I got hold of this anime on the basis of a Mai action figure and after the first episode I thought ‘ah the fan service is bearable and I like Mikoto’. Halfway through the series and wow what a transformation! From no plot, pretty girls and lots of fighting, what was a silly 'lets have some fun' anime got serious and in a way that you didn’t even realise it was happening. Then while you are think that the series has climaxed at the halfway point you find yourself unable to stop watching as the
...
rollercoaster goes for an even bigger climb. In the end the plot was really well thought out and watching it again it’s wonderful to see the things that were there all along.
The characters were great, even the minor side ones weren’t just one dimensional. They all had personalities of their own and were a little screwed up in their own way, which was right up my ally. And there was yuri which I surprised myself by shipping for. And Mikoto is just the absolute sweetest ever, I want one!
Ahem, back to the serious stuff. The music was awesome. I was so caught up in the animation and the story and the characters I didn’t realise it until I watched an episode for the second time. My partner, described it as a mix between Tsubasa Chronicle and .//Hack. The absolute highlight for me was the mix of great action, believable characters, good plot and wonderful music. Downside? Hmmm I could possibly say the ending, to some people it shouldn’t be like that, and I am torn as to where I’d have liked it to end, but I’m still happy with it.
To sum it up if you want a serious, light hearted, action packed, heart warming anime with a splash of mecha and fanservice dive right into this one!

At the time of reading I have read 3 volumes.
NB: Also contains Junjo Egoist
This manga is progressing well. We are starting to find out more about the characters and it's starting to move its focus back to Romantica rather than Egoist, making the manga truer to its name. From a yaoi point of view this manga has everything you need, the right amount of hardcore nekkid scenes with a bit of lovey dovey and coyness mixed in. A yaoi fangirls ideal.
Story/plot wise? Egoist is moving along much better than Romantica, but from the get go Egoist has had more mystery and thus more to
...
be discovered. Romantica is more of watching how the relationship progresses story than one full of twists and turns. In that sense they are different to one another but the author has done well at having them both progress as readable and likable stories.
The characters are good too, well designed for their roles. They are developing well too, most notibly in Romantica with Misaki and Usami changing as their relationship grows.
The let down for me in this manga at the moment is Egoist. As the back story unravels I'm feeling a bit confused. It's almost like everything in it is happening too quickly, before we've been allowed to get to know the characters in the present we are being plunged into their past.
Romantica on the other hand has stolen my heart away. I can't wait to get my hands on volume 4 and I really hope it's filled with lots of chapters of Romantica.
If you like your yaoi graphic with a little bit of shippyness then grab this one, its taken 3 volumes for me to love it but its worth it.

Hmmm what can I say about Death Note? It's almost indescribable. It's good I can definitely say that. The plot is brilliantly conceived and it excels in the way it evolves, twisting and turning and oh so much thinking.
It has a perfect pace, with events unfolding just right, very calculated. And it also has the comedic relief to lighten the serious tone that this manga so frequently has. The artwork is lovely, the Shinigami are drawn creatively and I like that they differ from preconceptions and no two are the same. I'd love to learn more about them.
The characters are great. I love Near, Mello
...
and L, they are so off the wall and original. Light, wow, he's so calculating and clever it's scary but at the same time he's loveable and I pity him for the curse of the Death Note. The whole idea for a story is so unique and clever and it's been told wonderfully.
Is there a downside to this manga? I don't actually think there is, I can't think of any criticisms. I don't like L and Lights fate but its all in the telling of the story, everything that happened had to. Nope I have to say this manga is all good.
And the best bits are the amount of thinking and calculating and second guessing the characters do. Sometimes I found myself lost in their thoughts and in awe of their plans. I also liked the way we didn't always see the plans being made, we saw the outcomes and then flash backs.
If you like a fast paced action/detective/thriller manga or just fancy a new series give this one a go. Just don't expect it to be a happy go lucky story.

This manga contains 3 seperate stories (though they have similar characters). The first one concerns Ukyo, a student who takes in a stray dog. But this is no ordinary dog; he can talk, transform into a human, and to top it off, he has a big crush on Ukyo. How will Ukyo react to his new 'pet'? (3 Chapters)
Next we have two friends separated at childhood and reunited 10 years later over summer break. What will they think of each other? What will Ken do when he finds out his childhood crush isn't the girl he remembered, but in fact a guy with an atitude?
...
(2 Chapters)
The third story is about Keisuke, a guy who saves a goldfish at a fair. But there's something special about this fish, it's a guy! (1 Chapter)
Review:
I liked this manga. The stories were well put together. Although the goldfish one seemed a bit off, more so than the dog one. What was the difference? I guess the dog at least turned into a fairly hot guy whereas the goldfish looked too feminine for my liking.
The middle story was by far the best of the bunch though. It had some good character development as well as good yaoi. I think the whole manga was worth that story.
The yaoi in all the stories was good, good situations, good reactions and good drawing. More explicit than I've previously seen, but I've been told there are more explicit ones out there.
There could have been more to this manga though, all the stories are interesting (even the werid ones) and I could happily read more of the first two. It annoyed me as well that the stories did not have names (apart from the first one), they had chapter titles but no story name. Grrrrr
Anyway, this is a nice little manga, if you don't mind short one off stories and a bit of weirdness. Man's best Friend is a unique senario and an interesting read. Theres a lot of sex which is always good in yaoi, and if the weird stories do bug you the manga is worth buying for the sweetness of the middle story. So if you have the spare cash or a friend who owns it, give it a read.

A school full of smart gay boys? What more could a yaoi fan girl wish for?
This is a lovely manga, a sweet and funny romance which has more sexual tension than actual sex.
For having so many characters this manga doesn't seem to have a badly created character. They each have well developed personalities and are interesting. Characters that I wouldn't mind getting to know more, but there's the anime for that.
Plot...? I dunno, I think it's quite interesting. There's the wonder of why Keita is there and if he can stay. And then there's watching the relationship between Keita and Niwa progress as well. The
...
whole story progresses smoothly and keeps the reader interested, even without having lots of sex.
It's downfall would be, for me, it's length. For what goes on I feel it's a bit drawn out. But it has the potential to be longer, more details about why Keita came to the school and why they changed their minds etc. Hell even as a slice of life it could have been longer. So it seemed both squashed and lengthened to me.
Overall a nice gay romantic story, bit thin on the yaoi, but well worth a read if that doesn't bother you.

Notes: Also contains Summer Rain, a bonus story.
This was a fun little read but fairly stand alone.
The character interaction was good and well written, but there wasn't much else to them apart from that. The relationship progressed well. though there could have been more male loving, but I'll always say that! There also could have been more flirting and tension as they are both always fun.
But it still made me laugh out loud in places and I enjoyed it. It was a little confusing in places as to whose thoughts you were reading. That annoyed me a bit, but over all it was a
...
nice read.
On the other hand I loved the bonus story. I thought it was a brillient and powerful concept. Even though it was short it brought forward emotions. I would reccomend this manga to anyone for the bonus story alone.
