If you still exist I am sorry for my late reply. I have a lot of work in college and I been on this account since the last message i sent you more or less. I totally forget what i said but it sounds like I was referring to some form of legitimacy in animation now i have thought about it for a while. I got to meet Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland from Rick and Morty. Animation, in general, is treated too much like a children's medium. We don't need live action anime. I think the community just needs to be less like a population of children on the internet. i really hope thats not literal

Hey. Don't worry about it. Hope school is going well. I just had an exam this morning, so I totally know what you mean! =)

No worries. I reply late to people all the time. I don't mind at all.

Yeah. That's part of the reason I said that the show was stagnant and slow. I think they took the criticism from the first season and tried to develop their characters better. While it didn't work for the first arc or the Caliber side arc, I think that they've already done a better job on Mother Rosario. Before I talk about that though, I'll also say that, having read the LN which is the source that dictates the plot of the anime, GGO pretty much animated as the LN author wrote it. It is just not that interesting the LN either, as it mirrors the slow, plodding nature of the first arc and the characters spend a lot of time complaining of guilty and stuff for developments we can't really empathize with (Sinon's guilt, etc.).

Regarding comparison, I think that comparison is a bit necessary. For people that want to watch the second season, they have to know what they are getting, relative to their experience with the first season. It was hard to expand more on the second season on its own, as I know I did talk a lot about the first season when this is written regarding SAO II, but I just didn't have enough to work with as the season wasn't and still isn't over yet. Hopefully I can write more about it, especially now that Mother Rosario seems to be doing better and meeting my expectations (of the LN arc at least).

As for the second arc, I planned on updating my review as the show aired, but, as a new user, I didn't know that I'm not allowed to do so. As a result, I wasn't able to really share my thoughts from Caliber onwards. Caliber is just disjoint. Like in SAO season one, the first many episodes are short arcs, but at least they are in the same game world. Getting thrown from GGO to ALO was really jarring and the arc in general was pretty boring and awkwardly animated too (at least that's how I feel). Sinon was relegated to being part of the harem, which is disappointing considering that they attempted to develop her all through the first arc! It's not that I like Sinon, just it is a shame really.

Mother Rosario is definitely the strongest part of this season and will leave a better impression on the viewers. The story is a lot more relatable, as, for many young adults or teenagers, there is definitely a culture gap between us and the generation before us regarding the internet and technology (or maybe it is just my family LOL). Not only is the story better and more personal, but I think that the animation and choreography is better. The scenes look cooler in general and the battles are more frequent (there will be more now too), bringing out the quality of the animation and sound (the sound is more 'thrilling' with a good scene). As the first arc and more was so slow, those things went less appreciated I think. Like, an example of what I mean is that the first arc revolved a lot around guns. A bullet spins for a second before finding a target. There's not much that can be made more 'awesome' about that. It is a click and it is over. A sword fight, just like in Western movies (Hollywood), will always look cooler because there is just so much more fluidity and tension in the fights. Those factors enhance the art and sound and the other production values, so I missed those things and Mother Rosario capture those better.

Long message, but I hope it is legible. Wrote it one go and I've had a long day so I'm a bit too lazy to reread what I wrote and I hope it isn't full of typos or grammatical errors. ^^

Thanks! Glad it was helpful. How do you find it so far? I'll have to rewrite it when the show is done airing.

I am personally enjoying it a ton.

Actually its one of my favorites this season.

Along with Parasyte.

I thought about it. Anime isn't really seen that much of an art medium because it isn't a popular study like film or music. I feel like if more critics and colleges studied these works then the over all audience would have a strong understanding or standard in "what is good". Now its just a bunch of interests, "I like this cause this show does it this way and has these things". Art is aimless. Depth is usually what separates the good from the bad. There are obviously movies that execute shots and emotional sequences better because of form and playing with human psychology. Showing not telling is more compelling because it takes a concept or an idea and realizes it making it feel more real. The depth is the depth between the movie's world and yours. the deeper it digs, the closer it gets.

Art is subjective. cool beans

I'm actually surprised that you liked SAO that much...especially when you like Anohana...Have you not compared the two shows and be like huh? SAO has a lot of problems
ButthurtHetairoi Sep 9, 2014 10:36 PM
Thanks. I did that cause i just wanted it to be on my completed list and I guess 8 was the random number i filled it with. I just changed it

what....

Alot of people disliked the time skips because it skipped a lot. I would've liked it if they'd extended the first arc over the whole 25 episodes of the first season. What do you think? On another note, you took a break from anime? When? And when did you get back into it? I ask because i did the same.
Nora_Neko Aug 11, 2014 3:32 PM
Haha, thanks for letting me know the ova wasn't on my list. I have seen it, I just remembered it as the "actual ending" instead of being an ova. Yeah, i thing Yuno's the bomb when you find out why she's so god dam crazy! I loved it. Glad to hear you liked it too. I loved the OP for Mirai Nikki, it's one of my favs. On another note, what do you think of SAO2 so far? I thought the opening (the first 3 episodes) was kinda slow but it's set the show up nicely. And Death gun man, what a twist. lol I tried to match ya on the length of the reply but got carried away :P
