She really is!

I totally get that! Their rivals to lovers dynamic is adorable and I love how Syaoran mellows out as he falls more for Sakura, but I definitely miss his tsun side too haha. And gosh that episode is too cute for words! Sakura was so precious doing her best to make Syaoran's lunch too. They're truly the cutest! I'm glad it sounds like you two had a lovely walk as well. :')

Thank you the update, it's always so nice to hear from you! And no worries at all! Please take your time replying back, but as always I look forward to chatting even more. :) Fortunately I've been able to catch my breath a bit this week and take it easy, and I hope you've been having a wonderful time with your parents too! ♡

Oh my!!! You keep spoiling me with the prettiest art and it's honestly just the best! I'm usually out of the loop with this kind of stuff so I'm loving it a lot. :')

The animation with Sakura's little twirl of her dress and the cards is too cute! As Tomoyo would say, suteki desu wa~ ♡
uni May 5, 9:15 PM
If there was a hazukashii serifu timeout corner I'm pretty sure I would be there a lot LOL.

Oh gosh that Sakura is the cutest!! I know of that artist but hadn't seen that art before so I appreciate you sharing it with me! Even though pink is Sakura's color I've always loved seeing her in yellow. The colors and daisies are perfect for spring! ♡

Heyy I noticed that we shared a few favourites (a fellow ARIA, YKK, Akina Nakamori fan ahh!!) and couldn't help but send a friend request :D
I've also been planning to read Love So Life and watch Kemono no Souja Erin. How did you find the latter btw? I heard it can be pretty intense at times.

Ahh, thanks a lot, ill go look there >-<

I was wondering if you could give me some anime recommendations as i have sorta hit a stop. I am watching some ok ones at the moment but would like if you could give me some anime that you think are some of the best you've seen?

I have watched a quite a few anime myself but would like some anime from a different persons taste.

thanks (^̮^)

I was actually thinking that I love the kind of pen pal correspondence we have going on right now, and your comparison to the Aria episodes about letters made me even happier! Awww I love that so much hahaha. Thank you and I hope you had a wonderful rest of your weekend and I'm wishing you an amazing week ahead too! :)
uni Apr 22, 11:08 PM
Hiiii! I'm glad you've been able to take it easier this week! Hopefully you've been enjoying Uma Musume, I don't know too much about it but I did hear about the mobage that came out earlier this year haha. Being walking distance from your parents is really nice! And I feel that! Working half-and-half office-home sounds like a good balance. I do counseling part-time at two schools and I'm in the final stretch of a doctoral program, so my schedule is a little irregular since I'm still a student, but only having to be on campus 2-3x a week sounds ideal to me too haha.

Omg! Did it end up snowing over there? I've lived in California for most of my life so I don't have much experience with snow days (or snow in general haha). And yes, you can't go wrong with plain milk tea! I'm also a big fan of brown sugar, and cheese foam can be super yummy too. Most of my friends go for 1/2 sweet as well but I think I have too much of a sweet tooth to say no to more sugar. I need to learn your ways!

Aw yay!!! And I know what you mean, it really can feel awkward verbalizing those kinds of thoughts, especially to someone you're close to hahaha. I'm sure the message came across to her even if you didn't put everything into words :) and thank you for sharing those two pieces from your Aria rewatch!! They were so insightful and well-written and, again, it's wonderful to see how much Aria means to you. ♡ I can definitely relate to your fears about growing apart from people, as I felt the same way when I entered college (and again after graduating!). But as you said, it's reassuring to know there will always be new experiences awaiting us and that reuniting with an old friend can feel like no time has passed at all. Yesterday I had a research team meeting (which is my advisor and fellow advisees), and most of us voiced our concerns about the future and the uncertainty and anxiety that comes with it. It was nice just having those feelings normalized, and what you mentioned about time not really being wasted when you're learning about yourself and maturing in the process hit that point home once again for me. Now more than ever is probably the perfect time for me to rewatch an Aria episode or two (or three!) :')

Yes! There truly was a world of difference between the Cardcaptor Sakura and Sailor Moon sub and dub omg. I know there's a newer dub of CCS that's apparently more faithful, but I haven't had a chance to check it out yet. I remember finding my way to message boards in search of spoilers back when Cardcaptors was still airing and saw a lot of people recommend the original, so I had my mom take me to a local Japanese video store where I rented the VHS tapes since there were no official (or unofficial!) subs at the time. My dad was also not very fond of me watching anime but he let it slide since he probably thought I would outgrow it after my teen years, which definitely didn't end up happening LOL. It's good that you were able to keep in touch with your cousin and her best guy friend for a while after your trip through Skype anime meetups! :)

Hahaha, wearing sunglasses to the office after finishing My Mister like IU did would've been so iconic! Family themed dramas are right up my alley too. Ahhh I actually have most of the kdramas you mentioned either on hold or on my ptw :'( I can't wait to get to them all though! I think I watched the most kdrama in middle and high school on primetime TV with my mom, and then I sort of stopped for a while once I left for college until a few years ago when I briefly tried (and failed!) to follow seasonal kdrama. As you said, kdrama comes and goes as a mood for me too and it really is a shame when they have promising starts but then peter out and lose some steam by the end. I love Misaeng/Incomplete Life, it's probably my favorite drama because I watched it a time when its key message and themes really spoke to me. I know some people find it depressing because it hits close to home with all the workplace drama, while others find it a bit boring and slow-paced, but it's a worthwhile watch if you're looking for something a little more grounded that takes place in an office setting!

Oh gosh, I already have a feeling this is also going to get suuuuuper long so I will follow your example and take advantage of tags hahaha.

I can definitely see the parallels between Taylor Swift and IU, and the fact that they're your all time favorite singers nicely reflects what you value in singers and their music and everything in-between! And awww, I love how you turned 15 the year after Fifteen was released! I'm two years younger than Taylor and I remember being so excited when I turned 22 since I could finally make an obligatory social media post with her song LOL. I feel similarly about Taylor! I didn't like her sound after 1989 quite as much either, but I've also found my way back to her with folklore and evermore. I'm so grateful for all the great music she gave us during pandemic. I haven't actually had a chance to listen to her re-recorded songs yet but I'm excited to get to those too. I always loved her music but something about 1989 really clicked with me and turned that love into full-blown adoration. I remember making some close coworkers bear with me as I played 1989 from time to time in the office even though they weren't very big fans of her haha.

I can see the commonalities between all the artists and songs you pointed out for sure! I also feel like many of the things you like and look for in music are aspects I adore as well, so I appreciate how well you were able to capture those qualities in words :')

Omg, don't be sorry! I enjoyed reading everything and our convo reminded me just how wonderful music is (can't end this comment without one last hazukashii serifu LOL). Reflecting on these artists felt like a rabbit hole (of the the best kind!) and flooded me with so much nostalgia. While typing this up, I actually listened to Iris and Unwell first and then switched over to looping Self Control and Landslide before moving on to 1989 and a few other singers we talked about, and it made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. But at the same time, I understand how you feel because I'm also sorry about how very veeeeeeery long my reply ended up being! I hope it wasn't too all over the place. We're approaching the weekend again so I hope you have a happy Friday and I'm excited to chat with you again soon! :)
uni Apr 19, 10:18 PM
Yay! And awww I love that so much! It definitely feels like serendipity :') same here! I feel like my activity on MAL can ebb and flow sometimes, but I'm thankful the timing worked out and we're able to talk like this now! Also, I keep getting surprised whenever I remember that we actually started talking quite recently LOL because it feels like much longer than that already.

Omg that can be frustrating when you're waiting on something that's nearby but needs to be shipped out to you. Hopefully your painting materials finally arrived today! And props to you for continuing to stay active during quarantine! I've started going on more hikes over the past year with a close friend, which has been a really nice way of getting out and spending more time in nature. Yoga is great! I was doing a pretty good job of following 30 Days of Yoga with Adriene earlier this year, but once that ended my motivation also seemed to leave with it ahaha. My poor yoga mat has just been gathering dust lately, I should change that soon and do some stretches at least!

Ooh how did you like The Call? I haven't watched anything with Park Shin Hye in ages it feels like, but if you enjoyed that, I'll have to check it out sometime :') that sounds lovely though, I'm glad you were able to spend time with your parents and I hope you had a nice time with them on Sunday too! ♡ I live in California and it warmed up a lot here over the weekend too, but truthfully it never really got cold to begin with LOL. I did use the weather as an excuse to get boba though! I'm sure it must've been quite cold in Ontario until recently, so hopefully you were able to take advantage of the nicer weather despite the new lockdown! Walking is great too :)

That's so true! It was really nice to get a glimpse into how Alicia is beyond her pleasant smile and demeanor. And that's the perfect way to describe Natural! I love how it gives you a little time to breath during its run since it's the longest season and it truly lives up to its name too. I see that it's your favorite season, and I wonder if it might overtake Origination for me too once I have a chance to rewatch it! And as always, thank you for sharing such lovely Aria fanart with me ;___; now that you mention the winter outfits, I think that's another reason why I have such fond memories of the episode since I watched it right around Christmas.

I love how much Aria means to you! There are some series that just speak to us on another level and I'm sure there are aspects of Aria you've been able to appreciate even more with time. Hahaha, hazukashii serifu kinshi atashi mo! And I can definitely see why you would get a little emotional rewatching that scene with one of your best friends when they'll be departing shortly too! Rewatching that clip just now even made me a little emotional, and hearing Symphony play made it even more meaningful. Hopefully you two have a wonderful time watching episode 5 of Natural together!

I know what you mean about not really getting into something at first because of the stigma! This is a little different, and I actually watched Cardcaptor Sakura when I was around 10 so I got hooked on anime pretty early, but for some reason I had preconceived notions against shounen in middle school so I told myself I would never read or watch it, which didn't even last a couple years until I finally caved in hahaha. I'm glad you eventually found your way to anime :)

That's so funny because I had the exact same experience with all three of those dramas! I had Scarlet Heart Ryeo on hold for the longest time because I tried watching it back when I thought I could follow seasonal kdramas like anime (not the smartest idea when kdrama episodes tend to be almost 3x the length and air twice a week haha). I feel like I might actually enjoy it more if I revisited it now that I've gotten a taste of IU's acting. I only got a few episodes into Hotel del Luna but I definitely want to return to it eventually too. And I totally feel you about My Mister! I watched it back when I was at an old job where most of us would have something playing on our dual monitor as we worked, and I tried doing that with My Mister but it was really difficult for me to stay focused on work since I got too invested hahaha. I watched episodes 13-14 in the office while waiting out traffic after everyone left and then watched the last two episodes as soon as I came home, and I was a sobbing mess afterwards too omg. Otherwise I'm sure I would've also pulled an all-nighter with the final stretch of episodes because it was impossible to stop watching! I still think about the ending from time to time. Hopefully we get an airing date for Dream soon!

Palette is probably my favorite IU album too! IU herself seems very proud of it, and rightfully so haha. It seems like a great album to listen to while you're on the way to somewhere else, and you can never go wrong with Through the Night :')

That's a great question! I know you mentioned Taylor Swift fangirling earlier when we were chatting about tumblr, and I feel the same way and definitely consider her to be one of my favorite artists! I haven't followed her quite as closely after 1989, but she will always have a special place in my heart. I actually think Corinne Bailey Rae might be my all-time favorite artist, and it still warms my heart that she and IU got to perform together many years ago! It's so cute how much of a fangirl IU is. As for Asian artists, I grew up listening to BoA and Ai Otsuka and still love both a lot! I'm actually Korean but never had an interest in Korean music or entertainment until a friend brought a BoA CD to a birthday party I went to when I was 10, and I've been hooked ever since. I was also super excited to find out that Ai Otsuka would be singing a Fruits Basket OP, and I totally thought it would be a ballad like Planetarium, but I was pleasantly surprised that it ended up being the most upbeat OP we've gotten so far haha. In regard to kpop, I know you mentioned SNSD in your comment, and they're my all-time favorite girl group! Over the past couple years I've also really fallen for IZ*ONE (they may be second favorite gg) after following them since their survival show Produce 48, and I'm so sad they're disbanding this month. I'm also a big fan of Red Velvet and I hope they can finally have a group comeback this year!

Oh gosh, I feel like there's still so much to talk about, but I'll leave it here for now before this gets even longer LOL. I definitely love and listen to pop music the most! I used to feel a little self-conscious about that for some reason, but pop music can be so varied and has loads to offer, so I think I've finally learned to make peace and embrace it haha.

I would love to hear about your favorite artists too :) I see that you have a few listed in your MAL favorites, and what I've heard from them so far has been wonderful!

I hope you've been having a great start to your week btw!! I know you mentioned being a little tired from work last week, so hopefully this week will be better for you in that regard!
uni Apr 18, 2:04 AM
That's so true!! I was thinking that Last Fantasy was from 7-8 years ago, but I just checked and it was actually released in 2011/2012! IU has truly grown so much since then haha.

I know what you mean! Tumblr is really reminiscent of another time LOL.
Oh gosh, Aria the Natural episode 5 is fantastic and I can see why that scene really spoke to you! I love how it shows that unexpected detours can end up being even more beautiful than the original destination. Thank you so much for sharing those lovely fanarts of Akari from the ep btw, they're stunning and the added effect of the cherry blossoms is so pretty and meaningful! ♡ And that's a great question! It's a tough call when there are so many strong contenders, but I think the finale of Aria the Natural might be my favorite episode. It resonated with me the most when I first watched the series (and I'm sure it would even now!). I love how it shed light on Alicia and her relationship with Akari, and their little adventure building a snowman across town highlighted how chance encounters can shape our destinies. It felt like a fitting ending to the season too!

Our convo is giving me the strong urge to rewatch Aria! It's been a while since I last revisited the series so I really hope I can change that soon.

I share the exact same sentiments! Lilac is my most listened to song from the album, followed by Coin haha. Ah Puh and My Sea are both wonderful too, and I have a bit of a soft spot for Hi Spring Bye after hearing about the recording process behind it and Naul's involvement! I'm also quite biased to ballady songs and that's the perfect description of IU's slow songs as feeling like home. I also love both songs you linked, Taeyeon's foray into city pop was such a nice little treat! It's great to see how closely our tastes align :)

I actually listened to IU's album most of the time while typing up this comment and it felt like very fitting background music haha.

Thank you! I did a bit of spring cleaning this weekend that I had been putting off for a while, but fortunately I don't have much else planned so hopefully I can take it easy for the rest of the weekend. I hope you've been able to enjoy your weekend too!

I'm sorry this got soooo long! I didn't even realize until I got to the very end omg. I'm already enjoying our conversation a lot, but also no pressure about replying back quickly! I'm going to send a friend request after this, which I hope is alright :')
uni Apr 14, 7:17 PM
Omg hi! I can definitely see why that would make you do a double take LOL. I actually used a variation of Serendipity as a Tumblr username briefly 5-6 years ago, it's such a pretty word with a pretty meaning :') your profile is gorgeous and I love seeing your favorites too! Your Aria theme is so lovely and well-done! ♡

Speaking of IU, have you had a chance to listen to her new album yet? :)

Hello, late reply again.
I got a bit burned out of anime and by extension stopped going on mal. I've still been watching things, just not obsessively trying to keep up with every seasonal. Even now that I consume quite a bit of content due to lockdown, I just watch things that I want to watch instead of what's current. It's much more enjoyable and a lot less tiring.

Last time we messaged you had quite a lot of good things going on, health getting better, new job, new car so I'd love to get an update. I hope everything is still going fine, obviously there's the giant pandemic bothering everyone so you know, we do what we can.

I'm in accounting so I've been working from home for more than a year now, if anything I just like it better that way. It's a huge pain not being able to go anywhere tho, I used to swim regularly and also started climbing towards the end of 2019, obviously I haven't done any of that in a year and my fitness level is taking the toll of it. I moved to Luxembourg with my brother recently so the constant opening and closing of borders doesn't help either (Luxembourg's not a big country).

Man I hope Land of the Lustrous gets a 2nd season, when the anime ended I started reading the scans to continue but stopped when the scans got really shit. I'd pick up the manga but I don't want to get too invested in it until I know for sure it has an end cause I don't want another Berserk on my hands. 2nd season would be amazing since I thought the anime was better than the manga, the manga doesn't have that godly soundtrack and it's sometimes hard to tel the characters apart.

Real talk before I go, I watched Ping Pong late last year and that show made me fall in love with the medium all over again. Everything is stellar from the characters, their motivations and development throughout the story to the absolutely insane animation especially during the games all culminating in that perfect ending that makes you proudly smile and nod as if you've just witnessed your own child growing into an adult in the span of like 4 and a half hours. I love this show.

I appreciate what you've done for the Aria community with the rewatch threads on reddit and your descriptive comments! Thank you!
