I suggest you watch episode 8, and 9 of Kanata no Astra as there is indeed an overarching plot and a twist that I personally didn't see coming. I also thought the show would be episodic in nature but shit hits the fan in those two episodes.
Why even write a review of an anime you haven't finished? Not to mention, that you first formulate a theory, then you find an evidence backing it up (then you try to find an evidence which falsifies it). That's why it's called a theory.
