I consider myself a connoisseur of isekai trash. I've given favorable ratings to popularly derided junk food content like Failure Frame and Bonus Skill Fruitmaster, to name a few. Watching this series revealed to me that I've truly reached the bottom of the barrel.
I'm generally a sucker for the concept of a main character who's put down constantly and ultimately gets their glorious comeuppance. I didn't fully appreciate, until now, that this trope only works when a combination of certain conditions are present: a) the MC remains a social pariah for the majority of the series; b) the MC faces challenges that seriously test
...
their abilities; and/or c) the writing leans heavily into self-satirical comedy.
This series instead spends the majority of it's length having the cast of side characters, whose only defining character traits are being thirsty for the MC, constantly circle-jerking over how great he is. Beyond that, the remainder of it's runtime is comprised of bland, SoL-style comedy, and a boring, notably underdeveloped fantasy world in which MC continuously stumbles on more and more ways to make himself redundantly OP.
In addition to overindulging the protagonist, it overindulges the antagonists as well, making them cartoonishly discriminatory and cruel to the MC to the point of being deranged, like MC's family who apparently despise him for absolutely no reason whatsoever. There's no sense of vindication when MC rises above them, because they're not written like actual human beings. It's just sad and cringy.
At a certain point, you just have to laugh at the unintentional comedy of it, but unfortunately it also suffers from pacing issues, so it's hard to recommend even as a "funny bad" meme watch. One of the worst series I've ever suffered through. - 3/10

This show is like the Seinfeld of romantic high school dramaty, if that makes any sense at all.
To elaborate, nothing at all really happens, but the air is somehow always thick with tension as the characters are constantly playing 8-dimensional chess and trying to read the sub-sub-sub-text of every comment made or action taken by another character. I'll have to admit, my ADHD was giving me trouble since early in season 2, and I found myself zoning out a lot, then suddenly I'm completely confused about why one character planning a prom is contentious with another character who wants to help her plan the prom,
...
but she doesn't want him to help her because co-dependency or something so he has figure out a way to help her without helping her, and I'm now too bored to continue attempting to describe this plot line, let alone decipher the rationale behind anything these characters are doing.
I was an angsty teen once, but I simply cannot relate to the way these characters think and act. I can't help but compare this anime to The Dangers in My Heart, which features the same sort of chuni edgelord protagonist but is vastly superior in my opinion. It is much more direct and effective at communicating raw emotion with relatable scenarios and characters.
Perhaps I lack the emotional intelligence to fully appreciate this show for what it is. I do like the animation and the character design at least.

It is very self-aware absurdist comedy, if that wasn't already apparent by its very concept. It feels at times like it tries to get away with a lot of contrived solutions to every problem that occurs, but then you remember ITS A FRICKIN FANTASY ADVENTURE SHOW ABOUT A FRICKIN VENDING MACHINE.
I especially like how he can communicate complex ideas to anyone without much difficulty, using only the phrases "Hello there!" and "Too bad!". Reminds me of the "Timmy fell down the well" meme from the classic Lassie series. Makes me laugh every time. The whole show is this level of goofy. I love it.
Suspend your
...
disbelief about what a vending machine is capable of and you will enjoy this.

Watching this series was a trip. I went into it having no prior knowledge of the story and I have to say, based on the (intentionally) vague synopsis, and the tone of the first couple of episodes, this story takes a few turns I was NOT expecting at all.
It begins as a fairly cliche high school harem romcom. Almost immediately they're throwing lots of corny gags at you, introducing you to some classic character archetypes, and there's a heavy dose of ecchi early on, so you're thinking "ok, it's another one of those". Suspiciously enough, "comedy" is not listed as a primary genre on MAL,
...
or anywhere else that I've seen, despite how thick it's laid on at times. Now I can kinda understand why.
The story goes to some heavy places, some emotional, some exceedingly dark, and when I say "dark", I mean pitch black, jaw-on-the-floor, "What the f**k?!"-out loud shouting-ly dark. It maintains it's dry, irreverent, subversive sense of humor throughout, and I think that's one of the shows best features, but it's not at all afraid to shock you. Any time a character starts to engage in some goofy shenanigans, you aren't sure whether they're leading you to a punchline or a gut punch.
I will say that some of the twists were a bit too easy to predict, and the resolution to certain arcs felt a bit cheap and/or rushed. The MC is part Jason Bourne, part Batman, part Bugs Bunny. He always finds a way to succeed and don't worry too much with the how or why or when did he starting playing 16-dimensional chess, just go with it.
