I know i'm gonna be in a minority on this film, but i don't really care. What i do care about is telling you that to fully talk about this movie some MINOR plot points have to be spoiled. but I tried my hardest to avoid anything big. Anyway let's start by just saying wow.
It's hard to put this movie into words. On the one hand this might be one of the most enjoyable shounen series movies out there, but on the other it feels like it tries way to hard to be fanfic. That's not a bad thing though. The first movie in
...
the My Hero Academia series dose this as well, but where the first movie introduces a macguffin to give us our over the top final action scene that means nothing in the long run, this movie breaks all known rules about the show that we know.
Let's talk about the pros first though. If you're a fan of the character dynamics in this show you'll enjoy the first hour of this movie. Much more then I expected of the run time was devoted to the side characters which IMO is the shows best qualities. Everyone you enjoy in the 1-A class is there and everyone get's allotted amount of screen despite the overall run time. On top of that the movie is some of the best looking MHA has been. I dare to say it even matches the Deku/Todoroki fight in season 2. Even the CGI at the end doesn't FULLY take you out of the movie regardless of the absurdity. The new villains look insanely good aesthetically speaking and it's a real shame we won't get them in the show.
As for the cons of this movie...oof that final act. Logic and continuity get thrown out the window and what we the audience are left with is very beautiful fanfic. Fanfic that at the end of the day means nothing in the context of the show. It's all pointless. That wouldn't be my big issue though if the didn't spend so much of the movie trying to "foreshadow" things that "will" come up later. Answers to questions that we already know, or ideas that didn't go anywhere, and breaking the know rules of our characters powers to get a finally that feels like it came from the mind of someone who watched the show without reading the dialogue. That IMO is the shows biggest flaw... well that and rehashing All for Ones ideology and powers for our main villain.
At the end of the day is this movie worth watching? Yes...to a degree. If you like see a What If story and don't care to much about poor writing and just care about having a fun time then sure. This movie is INSANELY fun at it's core, but if you get bothered by continuity issues and boring antagonists then you should probably sit this one out...or at least the final act.

This movie is like living in your dream house, but it's built on sand...that's over a fault line...and shakes everyday. Well maybe that's an little bit of an exaggeration but the idea is there. The newest (to america) movie from Makoto Shinkai, Tenko no Ko or Weathering with You is an oddity. A film that happens to capture everything that made this director interesting while at the same time doing nothing that his previous movies had done to make those movies enduring. For the sake of simplicity i'm just going to give you my opinions on the movie instead of regurgitating the movie to you,
...
so if you want a play by play go read the synopsis. I'll talk a little on spoilers so if you don't want that skip over the MARKED AREA.
Now let's talk about the good. It's always good to go into reviews knowing the positives before the negatives. Weathering with You has everything that makes a Shinkai movie. It has your sweet romance, enjoyable characters, beautiful artwork, and mandatory Randwimp soundtrack. If those are the tings you enjoyed about You Name then this movie will scratch those boxes. The story in of itself isn't as complex (i would call it convoluted myself) as Your Name but instead makes an effort to put the relationship between our two protagonists in the forefront of the plot, having all the supernatural shit take a more background role. I think this is where Shinkai shows his best work. He has a way to get the audience to care about the relationships in his stories and this movie is one of his best in regards to that...but this movie has flaws.
This movie fails in three major ways. Two of them have to do with our main characters and the third has to do with...well i'll explain it when i get there. So let's just talk about the MCs for now What's the issue with them? I said they enjoyable and their relationship was cute right? Well true..but that's it. It feels like these characters are only there to have a relationship. They don't have any character development beyond what's need to have them be together. The whole story revolves around them so much so that it forgets to give anything else for them to do. Every plot point that gets brought up about their backstories either get's thrown away or get's set back to the way it was before the time period we're shown in the movie. What's the point? Nothing feels Natural and feels like everything else in the movie besides the relationship was a second or third priority.
************ SLIGHT SPOILERS***********
What was the point of him getting a job if that only exists to give us side characters then goes away? What's the point of him running away if at the end he's just sent back? What's the point of her "dying" and losing her powers if the main boy is going to bring her back..and not have the powers? If feels like it only exists as second thought back story so we have a reason to have the plot happen. Nothing feels natural. My third issue is mostly a nitpicking issue but it bothered me. The Main Couple of Your Name is in this movie to give "advise" to our two main character, and if they were just background characters it wouldn't be an issue to me, but they aren't and it feels like some of the most forced dialogue in the movie. Just a personal issue though.
*************END OF SPOILERS*********
I suppose those are my thoughts on Weathering with You. Is this movie worth watching? Yes. I do think it is. I'm giving it a 7 after all, so the pros to this movie far out-way the cons, but will this be a movie that get's talked about in the same breath as 5 Cm per second, Garden of Words, or Your Name? No, it won't. If this happens to be your favorite Shinkai movie i'm glad you found that much enjoyment in it. It's a good movie. To me though, it just feels like another Shinkai romance movie that looks pretty.

Have you ever watched an anime and thought to yourself that such things like "developed characters that experience growth throughout the series and end in a different place from where they started" or "jokes that are written and develop onto each other too leave many laughs to come in future watches" maybe perhaps "a story that actually gives the audience this thing called PROGRESS" are becoming such a bore for you as a viewer? Well do I have got good news for you then. Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai! is the show for you because it has not only done away with all of those
...
pesky things but instead has substituted it with such wonderful things as... .... well nothing.
I'm sure many people will try to convince you of this shows many "positives" such as cute girls, and..... cute girls, and more importantly.....more cute girls. Fear not though for i'm hear to tell you this one gleaming positive in this pile of PTSD educing trash. There are in fact (wait for it) CUTE GIRLS. If all you want is cute girls then boy here's your show because this show has plenty of those. They might not have you know a personality but hey they're cute. Sadly though, this isn't like the first season where at the very least each new girl was worked into the story to make sure it didn't feel stale, no this time you have all of them from the start and boy just wait to see how long it takes you to want to kill all of them.
Maybe this show could have been better. Maybe if the show had desired to grow up and spend the all new 13 episodes of it's second season picking it's OTP and developing the couple into a relationship we as the audience could have fallen in love with and enjoyed watching grow to a climax and conclusion. Is that what happened? No. Instead as an audience what do we get? We get 13 episodes of "comedic misunderstandings" that try to be funny and replace any attempt at actual comedy because hey watching a guy fumble around end up in "scandalous" situations with so many of his Hera... i mean friends is what passes as comedy now. We also get the shows most egregious offence IMO which is it simple can't pick a couple. At least SAO of all shows established a couple (not that it really mattered) and most other good harem shows establish a couple. Then we as the audience have a reason to watch as we get to see the couple either spend the show becoming a thing (which is overused and boring but at least something to grab on to) or be come a couple and go through actual couple issues (which is harder to find but when found is rewarding). Both of these would have been better then spending 13 episodes in a fight between the main character who has no personality and is severely autistic with girls to the point that the girls could strait up ask him out and he wouldn't know what they mean, and the girls who are as interchangeable as the show itself seems to think they are given how much it pretends like the MC will end up with one of them.
This show isn't for me (if that wasn't obvious) but i genuinely mean this. If you found enjoyment in this show, i'm happy for you. Really i am. It means you still enjoy this type of series. I'm not the audience for this show and to anyone who (despite my comments in the beginning being on the sarcastic side) dose want more from their romance (because this show is romance don't try to tell me otherwise) then trust me when i say this show isn't for you either.

What if we made an Isekai where the MC is so caution that he takes all fun out of being in an Isekai world?
This is the question that must have been asked when debating how to write a story like Kono Yuusha ga Ore Tueee Kuse ni Shinchou Sugiru, and how can we make that interesting. Now that the season is over we can look back and finally answer that question that the show is based on. Did it work? Was the show with this whole idea devoid of entertainment in concept actually entertaining? No...not even slightly, and given the existential nightmare we anime
...
watchers find ourselves in now this "new" Isekai is just another anime to add to the Anime was a Mistake scrapbook . I'm not going to give you a rundown of the story. Every MAL review always gives you a rundown of the story, so if you want a play by play go read one of those, but i will give you the Pros and Cons of watching this show and a little of my thoughts on it.
Pros- Surprisingly the animation is stylized to the point that you get the same feeling the the second season of Konosuba gives you. Each frame (when something comedic is happening) feels like thought went into it to make sure that it was as expressive as possible. It makes the moments of comedy a joy to watch even if the joke gets run into the ground. Secondly, when you get the the final 2 episodes the story actually gives you the a good reason to care about our two MCs. It's a form of character development that you rarely see in anime much less trash Isekai shows, so IF you stay around to watch the whole show you'll at least be rewarded with that.
Cons- Where to begin? The story (bar the character revel) is about as basic as it gets in these kind of shows. I dare you to even find a scrap of story elements that haven't been run int the ground and done better before. The characters are OK at best. Ranging from an MC who's so OP that even the joke of him being OP is stale by the third episode, a female MC who's nothing more the tits and jack-off material for the teen boy demographic i'm sure the show makes are trying to hit, and a whole cast of forgettable characters that could be exchanged with cardboard cut outs. The jokes aren't funny after the first episode. Even if humor is subjective by episode five the joke of "lol look at how cautions his guy is..isn't that funny?" feels like a long dead horse. The sound designs and VAs are laughable bad, and half the time the animation looks like ASS.
Is this show worth watching? I tried to look past my issues with the 12 episode and see if the good of the last two episodes (mainly episode 11) was enough to make up for the time spent with this show and you know? I gotta say...No, No this show is not worth watching. At least it's not the worst show this season.

No Game No Life 0 is like watching the movie of something you liked, but didn't want to see.
I suppose I'll just make this a quick sum up of my thoughts, but NGNL0 (no game no life 0) was something I wasn't hyped for by any means. After mixed thoughts on NGNL I saw the trailer for this movie and was surprised that it took away most of the things I had issues with (mainly the over saturation) the show.
Going into the movie I had average hopes and I have to say that that hit the mark.
Without getting into spoilers a lot of
...
the characters are either just changes on the original cast of NGNL just with a more "edgy" personality, or don't have any meaning to the plot and are just cannon fire. Which is fine given that this is mostly a back story movie, or filler movie if a season 2 of NGNL is announced.
The story itself felt WAY to rushed, but at the same time felt to long with what they were showing to the point that you had one thing that's normally never done in an anime like this happen to the MC (which I praise this movie for doing) and 20 mins later the plot takes that away from him (if you've seen the movie you know what that is) and that leaves you wonder two things. One: Why do that to begin with if that's the pay off for it? Or Two: Why not just make a season out of this and let us get more invested in the characters, so that it leaves more of a emotional impact? Something I think they should have done.
The animation looks great at points, but at other points I thought i was just watching something with the budget of a regular episode and having that happen on a movie budget feels kinda like a let down from MadHouse whose normally amazing on movie budgets.
Over all I think NGNL0 was the type of movie that would have made a better season to the show, but wasn't something I think wasn't worth seeing. It's a fun ride that even people who haven't seen NGNL can watch and enjoy with very little of it running into the show. I'd hate to call it a gateway anime, but those words seem fitting.
