Im terrible at writing reviews.

So far:
This is Fantastic. It feels like a combination or Neon Genesis, Guren Lagann and Kill la Kill. That is, beautifully playful and colorful animation and characters, mixed in with dark undertone and a slightly eerie post apocalyptic setting.

Story:9
The story presents itself as a story of Giant robots fighting powerful monsters but it's really a story about a bunch of orphaned and disturbingly manipulated yet innocent and animated children discovering what love is (with a crazy and sporadic zero two teasing the MC), while at the same time discovering the world. It's also rather intelligently told, as there are quite ... a bit of visual metaphors. but while being deep it keeps up its playful and innocent demeanor throughout, even throwing in rather blatant and unapologetic fan service. (guess that's why they call it the cockpit *wink wink*).

I really should give 10, but they can be a bit whiney at times. Remarkably diverse characters (diversity of personality, which is ALL that i care about)(and i'm black) though. And deeper than they first appear. All of them of course being pretty transparently innocent, and the character development seems to be aiming towards destroying said innocence (multiple connotations for innocence being used here). But it's that innocence that makes this anime wonderful. Because these are kids who have been growing up in a bubble, unaware, though slowly figuring out, that the world is darker place than they might have otherwise conceived.

And this is just the main cast of kids, before going into Zero two.

Kill la Kill X Guren Lagann, with 2018 visual standards. Not exactly original, but still unique and it fits the innocent and childish demeanor of the story. Also the fight scenes are built more around feeling than visual excitement, which is it's strength.

Updated review!

Started off really great but regressed a bit into "good". The character development started great but stinted a bit later one. The sub arcs are each different but unfortunately the relationship between our two MC's seem to be reset after each arc. It makes what development they had feel useless and it really drags down the stroy.

Character's are also not that imaginative and become a bit too predictable but hey, it's anime after all.

Visually it's a pretty decent looking anime and the soundtrack does justice to the mood, but it lacks variety as does the writing at times.
