High school genre is a bit stagnant with sub-par romance shows and fat booty fappin comedies. Here is some good news though. Hyouka doesn't really follow any traditional path of "romance" or "rom-com" style, so if you have had it up to the teeth with that shit then this could be a good change of pace.
Hyouka introduces a main character who i think most can relate to. (or at least appreciate his realistic views) In a world where each high school protagonist is basically some spray on sheet of a guy we are given a slacker who gets his rocks off on doing absolutely nothing
...
if possible. The rest of the cast is mostly gimmicky but they are fairly well developed and likable at the end of the show.
Easy on the eyes is a bit of an understatement. If you don't enjoy the plot of discovering mildly convoluted teenage mysteries then you could watch this for the art alone. Maybe just a tad cutesy for some peoples taste (a lot like Kyoukai no kanata) but so pretty i couldn't complain in anyway. The way classical music is mixed into the episodes is nice as well, adds a more sophisticated and laid back feel.
Dont go into this hopping for a thicc ass romance. That shit really don't matter much in this one. Your are just along for the mystery solving. That insnt to say there is no romance at all. Its just not the main focal point by any means. Now i could see second season really cracking into that (which i would thoroughly enjoy) but that still might not even be the case. Tbh i dont even know if a second season will happen, i dont really research shit i kinda just think and type at the same time.
For you who enjoy a laid back, slice of life-ish feel with mystery solving overtones then look no further. Pretty solid. Not the best thing ever but defiantly worth some time if you have it.
Final thoughts: Don't expect the conclusions to be like rape or something. At first i couldn't tell how heavy it would be then found out it was going a little more family friendly than Law and Order SVU.

to;dr warning!
So recently i talked about the respective 12 episode series this movie proceeds from and how it could have been better, and how it had qualities i didn't like about it. I also commented at the end of the review that the movie could redeem these qualities but would have to be in credibly good to do so.
Dayum cuz. They pulled out the budget on this. The thing i doted about on the series is how nice the animation looked but they turn it up to 11 in this movie. They explain a lot of what you want to know at the end
...
of the show thankfully. For that i am grateful because i don't enjoy thick ass plot holes in my show. That inst to say they're might not be a small plot hole or two. Mostly just an unexplained reason for someone having a certain power or something like that, but if you use your ability to disconsolate with critical bullshit thinking then it inst even close to a problem.
The romance was very touching, and in my opinion, beautifully crafted. I don't want to ruin anything by explain to much, but i didn't find it to be too melodramatic in the sense that they have felt alone and betrayed all their lives. So it makes perfect sense that the two interests feel like they are always going to fall apart. Even the relationships between characters i didn't expect to advance did as well. Sibling bonds and underlying reasons for certain choices were established through and through and it felt genuine and nice.
Personally just watch the first movie that summarized the first season so you can skip the uncalled for crap that drags the show down and makes the characters feel like abashed romcom dregs.
The only way someone will not really care for this show is if the art isn't for them because it is a bit cutesy, or if you just don't care for a show that has drama or romance in it. to everyone else have a nice time my bois. Makes you feel inside and it's nice to feel sometimes. A 10 might be high but i feel like a 9 is to low. Being a nice guy i'm just gonna round up on this one
Final thoughts: I talked mad shit on the heroines catch phrase, but the way it was incorporated in this movie was very touching and redeemed it's annoying quality to actually be moving by the end.

Sometimes you want to slow down from your shonen butt clenching, flahsback having, annoying voiced, thick action fun and have some feel good moments. At that i would have to say is the best phrase to sum up Barakamon. Good feeling fun.
The intro alone let me know just how much i was going to enjoy nearly all of the characters and relationships. (namely the one between our protagonist Sei and Naru) Personally i have a warm place in my heart for shows that teach a little bit of how to find yourself with the help of people you wouldnt expect. If you dont care
...
for slice of life-ish shows you might want to avoid it i guess, but then again it does follow an actual story with emotional tension to it, so it bridges the gap a little bit. The only character i didnt really like was the newbe artist who is introduced halfway through the show. He is helpful for showing an immature view that our hero might have had when he was a younger and aspiring artist. Still he just came of as annoying and lousy to have around most of the time.
All be it a fantastic show you could argue that at points it can be slow or feel like not much is happening. Its not that i felt this to much but i can see where it might drag at a few points. I understand what Barakamon is about so i never had a pacing issue myself.
The dub was very enjoyable for those who prefer it that way. Robert McCollum, (the boi) who is probably most notable as Kougami from the Psycho-pass series, uses his smooth man voice to deliver a fantastic performance for our hero. Giving the lead a voice that commands a little respect made him a much more enjoyable character than if he had the voice of a typical light novel boy voice, and for the use of Robert McCollum i give the dubbing team a tip of the hat.
Naru may be one of the cutest characters in anime that I've ever come across, and in the best ways i find her to be a great representation of the child in not only Sei, but in whomever is watching the show as well. Naru was never used for anything thing other than feeling like a realistic 7 year old girl, and for that i am very grateful. It hurts my heart sometimes to see innocent characters used for some creeps fansevice shitfuck purposes.
All in all i can't think of a bad time to be had watching this show. Even if its not your genre of choice you would still probably enjoy this. The art and characters are beautiful coupled with a nice story on learning to mature and grow as a person it will make you feel good all the way baby.
Final thoughts: I didn't mention the Calligraphy for some reason. It's like important but in the same respect it could be swapped out with a different passion and work just as well. Great fresh idea though, and that's the shit i like to see.

tl;dr/possible spoiler warning!
Once again i had no concept of what i was about to watch. In fact the only real reason i watched it was because i wanted something pretty to look at and in that category at least it did not disappoint.
So while watching Kyoukai i had a fair amount of times i just lost focus on the show for some reason. The story was interesting enough and it was easy on the eyes as well, but i think the reason was that id seen it done before many times and i kinda was bored with what to expect i think. That is not
...
to say its a less than a good show, that is why I'm giving it a 7. I think at the time i was just coming off better story driven shows with better characters.
Speaking of the characters lets do a quick over view of them. The main characters are, in my opinion, all kinda unlikable. The heroines catchphrase was pretty strange and didn't add anything to her character at all. She was just a glasses girl who happens to be the main heroine. And dont worry because The main hero will repeatedly let you know that shit. Trust me that got old fast as fuck. The only characters i would want to know more about would be the older sister character and the hero's mother but other than that idgaf really.
Basically half-ish of all the episodes is just little sister and glasses fetish innuendo and shit like that. They weren't clever or well delivered or anything so i just got bored with the "comedy" of the show after ep. 1. The romance was kinda ehhh... but ill let that slide because thats not really what the show was about. The fight scenes looked nice but as far as cool choreography or inner mental struggles it didn't stand out at all.
Basically, if you want to watch an average/slightly above average show with nice art and good sound complemented by a great end and op theme then look no further kids!! But for real it was probably better than i am giving it credit in some areas, like i said i couldn't keep focus because it couldn't suck me in sometimes. And a problem like that will vary person to person based on their tastes, so if you think it looks cool just go for it. I doubt it will be a waste of your time but neither will it give a lasting expression i think. The movie might make it tie together well, so i might change this after the movie. Although the movie will have to be pretty damn good for me to have this go up even one point.
Final thoughts: Don't watch the dub on this one. I usually go for the dubs because its slightly easier to focus and I'm not language elitist like some, but good god are the chicks voices cancerous on this one. Especially the main bitch. Sub this one or get ear cancer, your choice.

As soon as i got done watching this I had to sit back and think for a minute. I knew it would probably be some sort of harem that wasn't going to break the mold or anything, but i ended up being surprised. Let me tell you all about it fam.
As soon as episode one i noticed its kinda just lousy fan service and mostly 2D characters. I understand that they all had some sort of tragic past but that didn't stop it them from being unoriginal in any way. You have the ususal assortment of Tsudere, Silent but deadly, Pervert girl, Maid, and Loli.
...
Pretty standard stuff. Pick which everone you want and pretend that they are going to end up with our cardboard cutout of a main character,Yuuji.
So the first 7 episodes are generic filtered harem style "boy meets girl" cycling through each chick every couple of episodes, while throwing hints of Yuuji's tragic and blood stained past and shit like that. So each girls development is going to be purely based on the couple of episodes we delve into their "tragic past problems" and such. Its supposed to be explaining the reasons why thy act estranged like they do, but for half of them i don't buy it as a comparable reason for being 2D.
There was one girl left (the Pervert girl) who hadn't been through the ringer with our titular male lead yet. Like all the others i expected to witness a two or possible 3 episode sequence of her cliche/mundane tragedies and see er strengthen her relationship with our Hero. (not that it'd matter because we all know he'd never get with one)
But... for no reason... the show decided to get good. And i mean pretty top tier in my opinion. (or it could seem top tier due to the fact that the rest was bottom tier)
The Pervert girls back story not only introduces a new and interesting character, but it also ties back to the main character because its his sister. Now that's not unheard of or anything but it was worth noting. As a middle schooler her and a bunch of female class mates get stranded in between the bottom of a mountain face and possibly miles of jungle like forest. With all means of communication cut of from the outside world. The girls have to figure out the best way to sustain themselves and find rescue. As to not spoil anymore of the actual good part of the show i will not go to in depth, but you should know that it is actually pretty damn good. So good in fact i couldn't help but wonder why it wasn't created about just the Pervert girls tragic backstory. Literally all 13 episodes could have easily been dedicated to it and the show would have actually earn'd a lot of praise i think. The way the dive into how the psyche breaks down and the primal instincts to survive break through logical reasoning was very well done. It also works its way into the present time story really well too, and made the wrap up of the season quite enjoyable id say.
So here is the deal.
episodes 1-7 Rating: 5
episodes 8-13 Rating:9
I'd say its worth watching the first 7 just to get to the back 5. It helps build up a little character relations as well i wouldnt recommend just going right to the back 5 but you could and you'd still enjoy it but if only a bit less id say.
Final thoughts: Don't watch the back 5 episodes if you are squeamish.

It's best to go into a new show without any preconceived idea of what to expect. Well most of the time. For little hole in the wall type shows its a good method because it allows for you to embrace the experience as your own so you don't feel the need to be overcritical because of hype, or try to find positive qualities or like it ironically to try and achieve so sort of hip outlook. That being said i had no idea what to expect with Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai when i randomly started viewing it. Let me ruin the experience for you
...
then, shall i?
I'm well acquainted with the harem style approach, and enjoy it to most extents, so i was on familiar territory there. So as i watched the first couple of episodes I had fairly high hopes for the long game romantic aspect of this show. A foolish idea to say the least. That is unless they actually remedy this in the second season but after having seen shows similar in scope to this i get the feeling they just want the harem to keep thriving and cockteasing the hell out of possible ships and the main love interest to keep you watching, all the while blueballing the hell out of you. That being said i will still venture to watch the second season just for shits and giggles i suppose.
I'm not entirely sure which episode it was... 4.. 5, maybe? Idk it doesn't really matter i guess. Anyway around that time I get a thick slap in the face of "she's totally a teenage girl"s prepubescent as hell breasts thrown in my face, in a scene that can only be described as completely unnecessary. I mean.. thinking back it didnt bring anything to the story or fucking nothing like that. No character relation development or anything. It was just shamless creepy lolicon fan service. After this shell shock wore off a thought teemed in the back of my mind. It went something like, "maybe this show... now stay with me here. But just maybe, Its trash." Now i've seen and enjoyed my fair share of anime nudity, but that has only been when it was used in a non phonographic or pedophilia manner. So i lowered my standards of what i expected of the show right there just so i could enjoy the ride a bit more. The profanity probably should have been a tip off of the shameless nudity but i figured it would just be raunchy comedy and thick fan service covered by rays of light and steam or some shit. However i didnt take into count the authors personal fetish i suppose. Which i have to assume includes but is probably not limited too, young (too young) girls and loli type females. Possibly also sisters. What tips me off hard to that was there was one distinctive scene i remember of the Hero's younger sister putting on her shoes and for some odd reason the animation quality on that scene was noticeably better. It was just a 7 second shot of her feet being jammed into her shoes but it was obvious that the frames were smoother, along with the lightning and shading quality being heighten.
So i manage to swallow that down no big deal. The next few episodes are without shameless nudity so i figure it was a one time thing to attract some creeps for money or some shit, idk. But again, without warning, the 10 year old,(Yes, thats right. 10 Year old.) proceeds to run around without a shirt on and it shows her full frontal chest. I mean, naturally. Who the hell cares about integrity anymore, lol. Also i dont know if you've seen a 10 year old girls bare chest before (obviously the author has not) but there is no form of physical maturity there! Like, at all! Good Christ. For some reason they drew actual formed breasts, the kind you would seen on someone who has gone threw puberty. Needless to say this just threw my hole expectation of the show into garbage city.
Anyway the rest of the show is about as cliche and nonredeemable trash as you could imagine. I could have eased up a bit if they actually fulfilled the main love intrest with grace but the just threw that to the way side on the last episode to keep the harem alive. How wonderful is that shit, eh?
Other things to note are the soundtrack was probably just average or less, unrememberable compared to 10 year old fully developed breasts anyway. Cant unseen that shit. Also the art is nothing special. Just generic harem style stuff you would expect from a average show.
Its hard for me to rate something less than a 5 because if its worse than that i probably would have dropped it at some point. So that being said this mess gets to hit the bottom of my watchable rankings with a solid 5 outa 10. If to young girl baps are your thing then give this one a go. If you can look past that and enjoy swears and raunch comedy you might also find a average amount of enjoyment in this. But for the regular crowd i would say throw this in the heap with the other trash. Sorry if i got to angry with this one because its not a terrible show by any means, but that shit with the little sister and 10 year old girl just really pissed me off.
Final thoughts: You do get to see the stacked girls tits a couple of times so maybe worth?
