I find that Saber (F/SN) & Sousuke Sagara (FMP!) are very similiar. The pragmatic soldier type that thinks of battle 24/7. While FMP! was more comedic because he was out of place F/SN has Saber in the right environment. The Romance story also takes on a more serious tone. While FMP! keeps the shounen inexperienced, lack of bravery in all regards romantic like confessing one's love; F/SN manages to develop romance and pay it off. Both Male & Female leads are in High School or of that age but comedy is rare in F/SN, the tone remains that of FMP! battle scenes for the most part. F/SN is kind of the medieval seinen of FMP!

Its a High School Girl & a weird strange boy. Kaname Chirdori, the main heroine of Full Metal Panic shares many characteristics of Kagome. Sousuke Sagara, the main hero, is more like Sesshomaru without the pride. With the perverted Kurz Weber and battle-ready Melissa Mao to round out the major group, it leads to funny high school slapstick and awesome Mecha action. And with Teresa (mistranslated as Teletha) "Tessa" Testarossa to complete the romantic triangle comedy.
