Both animes have characters with apparently plain personalities but each one of them gonna have a good development. Both animes are more than just the plot seem, the stories are about the life itself rather than just the idol world/karuta world. Both series have a good balance of humor and dramatic moments.

Both works have characters with supernatural abilities, they use a lot of dialogues and information to understand the characters, but there are also action and fight scenes, both have characters that are usually minors involved in dangerous and mature situations. Both mangas touches dark topics in a non-fast way and i think if you looking more stories like that you can look the other show.

Both series have a wacky cast with non very realistic personalities, but they have serious demeanors when the story requires that, also both series are full involved in drama around their environment, the relationships in both series are kinda similar since they like to play goofy and sexy, but the characters have good and unique stories, even when in the cover it doesn't look like it.
