You're certainly right about that, I think that Nana may be one of the most effective character dramas ever written that far surpasses other drawn out and stereotypical stories you would see in other media, especially shoujo manga that follow general, a very centralized formula. For being a slice of life, it is insanely fasted paced with characters making decisions upon recognizing their own emotions near immediately. The anime only covers a fraction of what the manga has to offer, but you've definitely taken the better of the two routes, starting with the anime! If you end up enjoying it, the manga is absolutely imperative to read!
