The school was a hostage, she was only blowing up parts of it, and her dying would blow up the entire school.
Sacrificing some guy to save everyone vs cheering on/helping your rescuer

It doesn't. Basically *spoilers but you're going to drop anyway* the parents of the MC die and he suddenly makes a 180 and decides to kill all the diary holders to become god.
Oh, it's not the first half I hate; to me, it is great comedy because of Minorin and Ami. They are two of my favorite characters as seen in my list. No -- it's the second half -- the stupid half that makes it so disgusting and nonsensical. I think it's evil.
I'm going to act radically conservative here, as most critics do, and say cynical things about adaptations:
1. I have never trusted the MAL's ratings; if Toradora! is considered one of the best animes out there, I have no worries disagreeing with the rankings. But then again, I also hate humanity.
2. Anime adaptations are unlike films, in most cases. Films have bigger budgets and the people who control the Oscars have some taste, even if it's lessening day by day these days. The Artist is a remake and it shows. Even if the film sucked, The Help had a decent adaptation. Most anime adaptations don't have that same care towards it and sometimes, it's good as seen in the Studio Shaft works; however, it can be also notoriously bad as seen in Shaft's butchering of the Negima!? franchise. That's why more and more people are reading manga.
3. Visual novel adaptations that isn't romance scare people these days unless it's done by ufotable. JC Staff's nonexistent Tsukihime is so evil it's average and Studio DEEN's handling of both Fate/stay Night and Higurashi are similar in averageness. There is a huge difference when you watch it and read it. Then, there's Umineko which cannot be said.
4. I'm going to be even more conservative: I'd rather have people play the visual novel instead of watching the anime. This is my advice to people starting Higurashi, the ;gate series, and whatever. I wouldn't do this with manga, but VNs have a powerful charm to it. This may be because I'm a bibliophile as well; literature lures me more at times. Besides, you can't see the cadence of writing in the anime.
Anything can be criticized without watching. Higurashi Rei is my favorite to beat up because it was literally fanservice and none of the fandisc goodness. Tons of people criticize Naruto without watching. Why can't I do the same with Steins;gate?

Well, you'll like it and then you'll ask me why I hate it. And so on. It's always been that way with people who are not me.
