A Place Further Than The Universe was on my watch list for a really long time too until one day I was just like "Sure!!" and it was worth the wait, very adorable!
Ahh, okay!! Thanks for letting me know what you thought! Comedy is really possibly the hardest genre to suggest because of that reason. Everyone thinks different things are funny/not funny. I'll definitely check it out one day.
Sometimes you just know from episode 1 but it can be really hard to not be so hard on some shows from the first couple of episodes.
I work from home, so they don't really mind what I do as long as I'm doing what I'm supposed to for the most part, haha. I do product support for a software company - so I pretty much just try to help people solve their problems by searching through a list of solutions
Oh wow, that's a lot of stuff going on! You are probably so busy all the time. But that makes the moments you get to relax more relaxing :]
That's really awesome thing to be studying!! It sounds like it'll be super rewarding of a career. What made you choose that?
Oh, I remember you mentioned Akame Ga Kill, I just wasn't sure if it could be called "real" anime too. xD Naruto is the type of show that appeals to all ages, so it's a good anime to start with. All of the long-running mainstream shonen anime just feel different, there's something special about growing up alongside the characters. ^^
Hehe, I understand the graphics can be a little off-putting. :D You can find the original game here, or try the remake on Steam (it has slightly better graphics LOL, idk, I played the original one). You might also need to download the "MS mincho" font to make the text easier to read as the more recent versions of Windows dont have this font. It's an old game... =D
Oh, what PC games do you like?
Surprisingly, ep4 was disappointing as well. :D It introduced the character Saito Hajime (he also appeared in Gintama). The real-life Saito was known for being quiet and calm, but in this anime, he’s completely the opposite for some reason... Plus, as he himself said, he’s left-handed. So, why does he wear his swords on the left side?? And why does he draw the sword with his right hand? How does that make sense? So yeah, I had to drop it. :D I found Ao no Miburo even more frustrating than Tower of God, and that’s saying something lol
If you want better recommendation, have you heard of Alien Stage? It’s absolutely crazy! ♥
I agree that Star Dress was designed to include Lucy more in the fight. And all the dresses were very nice, but it would have been better if the author had at least made them more suited for battle. :D
I totally agree about Kyouraku’s bankai, it was so cool! Same with Urahara, he’s the silly type of guy as well, but his bankai was surprisingly dark.
The first season wasn’t so bad, it had quite a unique vibe that I liked. Rachel betraying Yoru was definitely an interesting plot twist, and I liked the friendship between Yoru and Khun. But just when I got used to the characters, the second season threw in a bunch of totally new ones, which was pretty frustrating. I just couldn't get into it and the whole "let's climb the tower" thing is pretty boring. xD What do you think about the show?
Hmm, lately I've been watching a bunch of shorter animes (like 3-5 minute episodes) Teekyu was one of them, it's just really dumb humor, which I know is not for everyone, but I enjoyed it.
I also watched A Place Further Than The Universe not too long ago, it was really cute and heart warming.
I saw you're watching Blue Miburo and Nichijou - what are your thoughts? I've been wanting to start both of them but just haven't gotten around to it yet.
Work has been okay lately! It just started to get really quiet for the year so I can binge watch anime for most of my shift usually.
Ah yeah I completely understand that. It can be difficult when you also have to balance in enough time for school. It's good that the work itself is chill :]
Did your presentations go okay? Hopefully finals are easy! ~ What are you studying?
Oh, I can relate to that, Naruto was my first real anime too lol. It was such a difference after shows like Pokemon and Pucca. :D
Ok, now I see I should never try Higurashi. :D As for Ib, I don’t know what you found, but all of the in-game graphics are quite simple. It has a very unique vibe though and it's the kind of story that will stick with me forever. ♥
Oh, I’ve heard about samurai cutting off their hair too. I guess you can say that this concept is still used in anime, as some characters cut off their hair as a sign of change or a new mindset too, like Sakura in Naruto, Yona in Akatsuki no Yona, Shura in Ao no Exorcist...
Okaaaay, that got me interested lol
Oooh, I totally agree! Everything felt so awkward and forced! That "emotional moment" at the end of the first episode was just terrible. Seriously, why did Nio freak out so much? Am I supposed to feel a connection to this character because he lost his shit after being used as bait? And then in ep2, he’s already doubting Shinsengumi when nothing’s even happened yet? I was totally speechless. The second episode was quite amusing though since Kondo showed up and he was voiced by Sugita Tomokazu. So I couldn't take him seriously at all, it felt like a parody. :D Overall, I've made it through three episodes, and they were just as bad as the first lol. I don't like dropping anime, but I really don’t think I can handle another episode either. xD I apologize for this shitty recommendation. :D
Oh, cool! You enjoy work? Lucky you! =D
I agree that celestial magic was a cool idea, but I was kind of disappointed by it. The celestial spirits were pretty annoying and didn’t really help at all lol. I was excited when Lucy started using Star Dress magic, hoping she’d get to use some specific abilities of those spirits, but she just ended up throwing punches and kicks like usual. :D
Haha, that's cute~ I never really doubted Guildarts was talking about a real dragon since the MC was searching for one from the beginning lol. Same here, I enjoy those funny, pervy old guys, heh. Another one I like is Kyouraku from Bleach. I love how they seem so silly, but when it really matters, they turn out to be super strong and cool. ^^
I want to forget all of it! =D It was terrible! I HATE all those characters and every episode was so boring and frustrating! I would have dropped it if it weren’t for Okamoto Nobu-sama Khun, he’s the only character I found likeable. Still, I’m gonna watch the new season too. I'm curious if it can get any worse lol
Not tooo much! Just have been working and watching anime, the usual! haha ~
How about you? How has work and school been going?
Oh really? What other Naruto themes are inspired by folktales? :O
Oh, that’s nice. So thanks to this friend, you got a good grade at school and you also got into anime? =)
Have you played Higurashi? I don’t like horror unless it's very subtle lol. I absolutely love an RPG called „Ib", have you heard of it? It's labeled as a horror game, but it really just has this gentle creepy feel that I found super enjoyable. ^^
Maybe you’re right. I guess it doesn't really matter where you start as long as you do start somewhere. xD
Well, she’s pretending to be a male, so she cut her hair like that to make her cover more believable. Could there even be female samurai back then? :D Yeah, the Shogun’s hairstyle is the most traditional one. I’ve read that samurai usually shaved the top of their heads and tied the rest into a top knot to keep their helmets from slipping during fights. Eventually, that shaved look became a sign of status, and even lower-ranking samurai (like our heroine lol) started copying it. But most of the lower-ranking ones didn’t do it as neatly, not really going for the top knot. The main girl looks a bit off though since she still has her bangs. I guess the author just couldn’t bring herself to shave her head completely. xD
Yeah, the art style has an old-fashioned feel to it. I'm glad you like it, too. ^^
As for Ao no Miburo, I'm beginning to regret recommending it to you. :D I’ve watched two episodes, and idk, it seems so cheap and forced, and some things just don't make any sense! Let me hear your thoughts when you watch it. ^^
Wow, second part time job? =O That’s amazing! I feel tired just reading about it. xD
Yeah, Laxus was great! ^^ I don't remember much about the final arc either, because I just read the manga. x)
Its a shame that the author didn't dive deeper into those unique powers like Levy's or Reedus's (thanks for reminding me who he was, I totally forgot he even had a name lol). A lot of the fights in FT felt pretty basic, especially Natsu's, so it would have been interesting to see those unique magic styles get more spotlight.
Oh, I was curious about Guildarts‘ encounter with Acnologia too. Hehe, you’re right, there woundn’t be much of a story if he was saving the day all the time. xD Still, I’d love to see more of Guildarts. I’m quite curious about his past too, like what his childhood was like, how did he learn his magic, how did he join Fairy Tail, what his first encounter with Natsu was like, and how he met Cana’s mom. He’s quite an interesting character and his magic is so unique, so I’d love to know more about him. He kind of reminds me of Jiraiya, being a bit of a ladies' man and just wandering around the world. ^w^
Yeah, I never cared much about Obito either. I found Obito's story very sad, but largely because of what it meant for Kakashi. Um, I remember literally nothing about Madara and Zetsu's past. xD
In Japanese dating sims, you play as a male attempting to befriend female characters and in otome games you play as a female befriending male characters. That’s the only difference, I think.
Probably, though I don’t know much about Fate. I’ve heard about Higurashi, but haven’t played it or watched the anime. It’s a horror, right? I’m not sure I’d be into that…
Hmm, I would probably recommend watching the anime first and then playing the game if you feel like diving deeper into the story. The anime introduces you to the characters, and it covers the main storyline. When I played Okita’s route, he and my character basically spent half of the main events just hiding in the woods or in a shed, which was very nice but not very exciting in terms of the story. =D
Yeah, I feel the same way, it's difficult to find a good love story.
Yep, she’s „bald“. =D The author mentioned in the manga that she wanted to make the manga as realistic as possible, so she gave the heroine a traditional samurai hairstyle. Shinsengumi are still very popular in Japan, so there are tons of animes, movies, and books about them.
I like Kurogane’s art style. It gets better over time. ;)
Btw, Ao no Miburo began airing today. ^^
Oh, I see. I don’t remember that either. xD
Laxus used the runes when he fought Wall Eehto from the Spriggan 12.
Yeah, Levy was the first girl Lucy befriended in FT, so the author most likely created her to provide Lucy with a friend who shares her interests. I agree, these characters are very refreshing. ^^
Yea, Tower of Heaven Arc was great! Erza was always so tough and serious, so it was surprising to learn her backstory and see how she acted around her childhood friends and Jellal.
Oh, it was so frustrating that Gildarts was always out of town whenever something important happened! It's too bad he didn’t have more screen time.
im so sorryyyy!!!
u got pinterest?
When I was a kid I loved being a hairstylist but bc I had rough path with my bosses they made me dislike it a little bit. It's not that easy being a hairstylist, there are a lot of things about being one. But no, it wasn't something I've always wanted to do, content creation was hahaha.
Oh, so Rin was in love with Obito. I don’t remember Kakashi/Obito/Rin backstory very well. But I like how it serves as a parallel to Team 7 too. ^^
Yep, Hakuoki is an adaptation of the game. It‘s an otome game so there are several paths you can take, depending on which Shinsengumi member you choose to befriend. The anime mainly sticks to the main Hijikata Toshizo storyline, but there are many different routes in the game, so it's definitely worth playing. And you can end up with a good ending where your guy survives or a bad one where he dies. :D I’ve only played Okita’s route so far. I'd like to check out other routes as well, but leaving my beloved Souji alone while I go for another dude is too hard… xDD If you’re interested, there’s a prequel (which is based on another game lol), that you should probably watch first to completely understand the main story. The plot in Hakuoki has some fantasy elements, but it captures the vibes of Shinsengumi’s last efforts to defend the Shogunate pretty well. But basically it’s a tragic love story, where almost everyone dies, so… xD
Oh, I'm happy to hear that. Kaze Hikaru is awesome, and you can pick up a lot of cool historical stuff from it. ^^ Plus, there's a romance between the main girl and Okita, which is probably why I enjoyed it so much… xD Another great manga set in the Bakumatsu period is Peacemaker Kurogane. There's another Okita Souji in that one too! :D
Ao no Miburo should begin airing this month. I'm also thrilled that the opening is by Spyair. ^^ With the Shinsengumi element, it reminds me of Gintama. ^w^
Oh, I completely forgot that Gajeel was a double agent. =D Makes me think that the author probably forgot about it too. =D Yeah, that could have been a very interesting storyline.
It’s cool how Levy isn’t super strong overall, but she has some specific abilities like making an iron for Gajeel or breaking Freed’s runes. It also makes me think of Laxus’ battle where he had to use Freed’s runes to win. It was nice that he actually bothered to learn a different kind of magic, especially since his lightning magic is already powerful enough.
It seemed to me that the author is a fan of Naruto and Bleach, and he thought he should make his two main rival characters fight each other as well to make his manga more interesting. xD Even Erza’s role was very similar to Sakura’s. Yeah, sometimes it felt like Erza could overpower basically anyone. xD I understand that she’s a very strong S-mage, but I’d still like to see her struggle more.
I don’t really remember how it was with Rin. Did she have a crush on Kakashi? =O
Not really, just some small parts. =D Wikipedia can be surprisingly useful when you want to look up a brief explanation of something.
Yeah, you’re probably right. xD Speaking of samurai anime, Hakuoki portrays the downfall of the Tokugawa Shogunate very well too. There’s also a manga called Kaze Hikaru, that describes a lot of interesting facts about the Bakumatsu period. I'm also excited about Ao no Miburo, a new anime about the Shinsengumi. ^^
Oh, really? =D I thought you took me for a complete goof, with all of my fantasized ships and everything. :DD Oh, Greek mythology definitely counts. ;))
I also found it strange at the time, but I believe it was more about trust or sth. Gajeel was still struggling with his past, and perhaps he wouldn't have even accepted it if Makarov had chosen him for the trial. It was different with Juvia, she was Phantom Lord’s member too, but she never directly harmed FT's wizards (well, except for kidnapping Lucy xD), so Makarov was showing his trust in her by nominating her for the trial. But I agree that the author mainly included Levy to bring in Gajeel. :D
I found Gray and Natsu’s fight kind of forced. Did you? =D I understand that neither of them was thinking very clearly since Juvia and Lucy just "died", but it was still kind of unnatural. But I loved how Erza stepped in to stop them, it was a great callback to all the times throughout the series when Natsu and Gray were fighting and they stopped whenever Erza was around. xD
Yeah, well, I can’t help it, sorry… xDD
Yeah, it's quite ironic that Sasuke was basically the main reason why Naruto and Sakura's friendship developed. As you said, Naruto was chasing Sakura as she was chasing Sasuke, but this quickly changed to both Naruto and Sakura chasing Sasuke. xD They were the only ones who truly understood each other's feelings, as no one else shared the same bond with Sasuke. It's not that I believe Narusaku could ever be canon, it's just amusing to think about. In some AU they might make a nice couple. :D
The easiest way to find some details about the characters is by reading the Wikipedia pages of their real life counterparts. :D For example, it’s interesting to point out that the real Okita Souji died on TBC while his sister was taking care of him on his deathbed. However, in Gintama, it was the other way around, Sougo’s sister was the one who was sick, and Sougo was with her in her final moments. Another interesting fact is that the real life Hijikata was also known for his strict regulations, earning him the nickname Demon Vice-Commander.
Have you watched Rurouni Kenshin? I’ve heard it’s pretty good, but with the original anime and the remake, I'm not sure where to begin.
Yep, I enjoy Japanese history. I guess I tend to spend a lot of time researching topics that interest me. Like when I was reading the manga "Im: The Great Priest Imhotep," I became obssesed with reading about Egyptian gods and faraons and so on. xD
Hmm, I think Levy started to fall in love with Gajeel after he saved her from Laxus's attack. Levy has always come across as a kind and forgiving person, so it's understandable that she would focus on Gajeel's efforts to improve rather than dwell on the horrible things he's done in the past. I agree their relationship may have seemed a bit forced, but Gajeel's come a long way since his Phantom Lord days, so I believe their relationship could work quite well.
Hmm, I can see Rogue defeating Sting after his shadows became stronger following Fro's death. I've always assumed that Sting attempted to stop Rogue when he lost control of his shadows, and that they fought, Rogue unintentionally killing Sting in the process. And the fact that he murdered his BFF caused Rogue to lose his mind entirely, making him feel that with his power of darkness and shadows, he actually belonged among the villains. Or something like that. xD
